2. Immigration Persuasive Speech
As a first generation U.S citizen, I understand what America means to refugees. I I see it in my
mother s look of hopefulness for us, even after her long shifts at work, that leave her fingers
cracked and bloody. It s my grandmother s late night calls, urging me to do well, and to succeed. It
s my uncle s reminders to be grateful, for I have the education and opportunities he did not have.
For many, America symbolizes hope and opportunity.
Gratitude resonates in my mind from time to time. I remember in awe of the stories my family
has told me. My mother s two set of outfits and a single pair of shoes, when they broke, she was
forced to walk barefoot. My grandmother s forced decision to sign over her property, the only

According to the article, What Do You Know about Area 51? , several people argued that they
witness some paranormal activities in Area 51. Area 51 is a facility located in Nevada for
developing aviation technology. There is no proof explaining why the paranormal happenings are
coming from there. Nevertheless, the witnesses claim that these happenings are all related to the
aliens. Additionally, they assume the high government officials would have communicated with the
aliens in Area 51. The evidences are unidentified flying objects that they witnessed; however, the
flying objects have not been identified. Although their evidence has not been proven, people still

The evidence of the claims is not credible is the first point that the article violets from the
Baloney Detection Kit. The believers were not skeptical about their claims and they did not try
to figure out if their claims were scientifically proven. They just argue that the unidentified flying
objects they witnessed are a piece of valid evidence for their claims. Moreover, the flying objects,
or what they claimed as their evidences, have not been identified yet. The article does not state
where they got the sources of people who saw specious activities happening in Area 51. An
unverified claim is also infringing one of Shermer s ten Baloney Detection Kit questions, since
their claims have not yet been confirmed by anyone else. In addition, the believers violated the
rules of science. The rules of science include observe, predict, test, interpret, and communicate. They
first observed the flying objects around the facility. Then, the believers started to predict their
hypothesis that there were aliens in Area 51. However, they did not test or exam their hypothesis to
identify the objects. Also, they should have gathered data and analyzed them to verify their claims.
Lastly, they have not published their study for peer review. Instead, the believers just rumored

4. The Effect Of Different Amounts Of Vinegar
Introduction + Research Question
The goal of this lab was to determine the effects of different amounts of Vinegar on the
temperature in the reaction NaHCO3 + HC2H3O2 в†’ NaC2H3O2 + H2O + CO2.
My lab partner and I researched and experimented with the temperature after this reaction because
we were intrigued by the solution seeming colder in the demonstration during class. We wondered
why and how a reaction can yield decreasing temperatures. We also wondered how vinegar would
affect the temperature change caused by the reaction. This lead to our experiment to investigate the
relationship between the amount of vinegar in the reaction and the temperature of the solution 40s
after the reaction commences.
The Hypothesis
If the amount of vinegar is increased then the temperature of the solution will drop until it stabilizes
at a certain point. The dependent variable in this experiment (the temperature) will stay the exact
same without any vinegar being added because of the lack of reaction. If more vinegar is added I
believe the temperature will continue to get colder until a certain point where the temperature will
stabilize.
Theory/ Background Information/Abstract.
I believe my hypothesis will be true because from my research I have found that the reaction
between baking soda and vinegar is an endothermic reaction. Endothermic reactions are reactions
that require heat to be initiated. This need for heat in turn causes a drop in temperature once the
reaction occurs because the

5. Cause And Effect Of Volcanos
olcanoes
One of the most destructive acts to occur on the earth s surface, takes place from within the earth
itself. Volcanoes have the effect of destroying everything in its path with its molten hot lava, but
also allows some positive outcomes to occur such as precious jewels.
Volcanoes are parts of the Earth s crust that have been forced in an upward position causing a
mound like landform on the surface or in water. What lies beneath is magma that has been
building up pressure for thousands of years, pushing through a crack or break in the earth s crust
waiting to be released. Once a volcano is finally relived of the pressure, it sends lava flowing and
spewing out of the top. Another thing that volcanoes let off is volcanic ash and gases that can be
very harmful to any living thing if exposed to these elements.
There is more than one type of volcano. Many people think of the triangular mountain type
volcanoes to be the only ones that exist, but this isn t true. This type of volcano is known as the
composite cone, such that Mount Fuji and Mount St. Helens fall under this classification.
Another type is called a shield volcano, which really doesn t look like a volcano at all. They are
made up of overlapping lava flows which keep fanning out and making the effect of a shield like
surface. Another classification of volcanos is known as a cinder cone volcano, it is like the
composite cone but doesn t come to a complete point at the top. It has the look of a cylindrical top

6. Comparing The Foundation Of Orthodoxy And The Canon
The Foundation of Orthodoxy and the Canon For years, the dispute about what is fact and what is
opinion has been present in the church. This debate is seen, in modern day, through the different
denominations that are under the Christianity banner. Under the banner of Christianity there are
Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Apostolic, Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist, Church of God in
Christ (C.O.G.I.C), and Lutheran. Now, even though each of these denominations call themselves
Christians, their beliefs about the Christian kingdom are different. Some of the differences include
Catholics, who believe that you must confess your sins to the priest, even though the Bible, the

Now, at that time, I was only 12 years old, God had not endowed me with those gifts, but when I
answered him no, he began to act differently towards me. It was from that interaction that I began
to take notice of the different teachings in different denominations. Now, I tried to deepen my
research using the Online Library, but my results continued to come back not found, but I was
able to go on line and research some things regarding the denominational differences. I was able
to find an online article that discussed the wrongs of denominationalism. In the article the writer
stated that the definition for denominationalism is the tendency to separate into religious
denominations (Copeland 2001). By this article, denominations are clearly non scriptural,
because God is about unity, for as Paul states in the book of Ephesians 4:4 6, There is one body,
and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Bibliography Copeland,

Stereotyping: Tito (Gabriel Chavarria), a Hispanic student, displays an act of stereotyping Jamal,

black men have big fat lips. Jamal was typically the vocal student who instigated students into fights

it showed his views and stereotypes of black people. This scenario affected both students, because

student interest in the Holocaust, but Ms. Campbell quickly denies the request on spot. She talks
badly about the student grades and automatically assumes they are unable to read the words in

Ms. Gruwell s students due to already deeming them as failures. She assumes if the students get

8. Essay on The Comparison Between Psychodynamic and...
The Comparison between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Theory
There are very distinct differences between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling but both
ultimately offer the help and guidance to discover why we act the way we do and why we make
certain choices in our lives.
Throughout this essay, I will endeavour to explain those major differences and you will see that
despite these completely different methods of therapy, depending on what the problem maybe, they
can both work very effectively in their own way.
Carl Rogers, born in 1902, was the originator of the Person Centred Approach or Humanistic
Theory. His work was influenced by his experience of being a client and a counsellor (Casemore,
2006) and he believed a trusting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perls did not belive in a single particular theory. He thought you should always just go with the
flow and work with what you have and what is happening in the now. He placed great importance
on the client becoming self aware and thus developed the Gestalt theory. This therapy focuses more
on process (what is happening) than content (what is being discussed). The emphasis is on what is
being done, thought and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should
be. Perls believed in minipulating the client, bringing them out of their comfort zone and
challenging them. To own what you say and do and to be aware of unconscious actions/words.
In the 1950 s Eric Berne began to develop his theories of Transactional Analysis. He said that verbal
communication, particularly face to face, is at the centre of human social relationships and
psychoanalysis.
His starting point was that when two people encounter each other, one of them will speak to the
other. This he called the Transaction Stimulus. The reaction from the other person he called the
Transaction Response.
The person sending the Stimulus is called the Agent. The person who responds is called the
Respondent.
Transactional Analysis became the method of examining the transaction wherein: I do something to
you, and you do something back .
Berne also said that each person is made up of three alter ego states:

Communication 412
5 May 2015
Theme Analysis In our society today, people still belittle women and treat them like second class
citizens. Women are just as important as men, if not better, and should be treated equally in society.
I do acknowledge the fact that we are living in a heternormative society put upon us in the United
States. As a heterosexual male, I see the bias, prejudice, and injustice that go toward gays, lesbians,
transgenders, and woman. Even though some say we are moving into a post feminism era, there is
still much that needs to be addressed and changed. Things such as equal pay for equal work,
workplace discrimination, and male generic language are some problems just to name a few.
According to Gendered Lives, sex discrimination is no longer a problem in the workplace, but
they can t explain why women earn less than men for equivalent jobs (2011). In addition, popular
politicians such as Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton are evidence that the playing field in politics
is now level, but they don t seem to realize that women only hold 17% of seats in the Senate and
House of Representatives (Bennetts, 2012). When speaking about feminism and what hardships
women must endure, there is no other book out there that describes it so detailed. The Second Sex
by Simone De Beauvoir is a very long manuscript about the hardships that women must face when
living in a patriarchal society. It starts off with the data and biology of women

10. Satire Definition Essay
Humor, for many, is a cheap laugh and a way to brighten someone s day. But for others, humor
goes beyond that. Often times in today s world, humor is used to convey messages about
dangerous or impossible to state topics. Society allows humorists to speak about unpalatable topics
since the delivery of the message is masked. Humorists take difficult messages and use creative
humor to make them more accepted into society.
Have you ever read a statement that made you double take because it said one thing, but meant
opposite? That is called satire. Satire presents a surface level message, but really, in the subtext,
the meaning was the opposite of what it seemed. Satire is seen in the world all around us. For
example A Modest Proposal, written by Jonathan Smith is a very satirical book. During the
Ireland famine, Smith is angered by the lack of progress being made to help. To point this out, he

Hollywood is notorious for taking dangerous or impossible ideas and masking them with humor.
Some may argue that the film industry only seeks laughter using vulgarity or toilet humor.
Movies such as Click , featuring Adam Sandler highlight this immature humor. However, the
same film tells a lesson on the lack of appreciation we tend to have for the mundane aspects of our
lives. It also provides a social message about how we all too often live on auto pilot. Another film,
Yes Man , is a comedywith a similar message about living on auto pilot. After a depressing
divorce, Jim Carrey decides he will say yes to every opportunity presented in his life. This movie is
hilarious, but also conveys a message about stepping out of your comfort zone and learning to
live a little on the edge. The movie Yes Man provides a deeper message, but it also is a comedy

12. The Importance Of Art In Education
There are many careers that have to rely on the arts and all the rest are influenced or supported by
the arts. Art is found in many areas of life to stimulate creativity and expand knowledge. Many
politicians decide to cut arts funding because they think the arts is not a necessity in our school
systems. They also believe that cutting funding in the artswill allow the United States to excel in the
subjects we are failing at in a worldwide standpoint such as the sciences, engineering, and
mathematics. Although many of them feel that way and want major budget cuts in the arts, the
people of our nation can fight and protest the government for what we want. Art integration is very
important to classrooms because of cognitive learning, identity, social justice, and future careers. Art

economic condition can also affect the firm s performance. The apparel industry is a very cyclical
industry that is highly correlated to the economic context. Indeed, consumers are more likely to
refrain from purchasing non necessary goods in a period of recession. Moreover, with the ongoing
economic situation, existing international stores are touched and this can affect productivity and

however A amp;F has continually refused, thinking that it would have tanish their brand. In the retail

twice every couple of months. The number one reason that all twelve of the students ever stopped
or considered stopping at Kmart was the convenient location.
A better marketing plan should be implemented to help differentiate Kmart from its competitors.
The Kmart located on Stadium Drive is right off U.S. 131 and is only a few miles away from
Western Michigan University and could generate more sales if more students and residents knew
more about weekly sales and product selection. Below are a few changes that this Kmart could
make to increase sales:
1. Radio and television ads could be created to show annual, monthly, and weekly deals on
merchandise encouraging people to shop at Kmart.

Jack London s The Story of an Eyewitness is a first person account of the San Francisco
Earthquake of 1906 and the destruction caused by the fires that large earthquake. The National

account in several ways. London s eyewitness article provides information, uses real pictures, and
uses literary techniques like imdrege to tell the story of the San Francisco Earthquakeof 1906 and

labor ghetto, had fled all day as well. They had left their homes burdened with possessions. Now
and again they lightened up, flinging out upon the street clothing and treasures they had dragged
for miles.
What was happening to the city during this massacre. At nine o clock Jack London was walking
in the city. He said that every building had its watchman at the door. And yet it was doomed, all
of it. There was no water. The dynamite was giving out and at right angles two different
conflagrations were sweeping down upon it. Then he went back one o clock in the morning and
said That there was no fire but still nothing has changed. There is still a rain of ash in the sky .

23. The Intersection Of Race And Sex
Intersectionality is defined by social categories, such as race and gender that have interconnected to
apply to individuals and groups, causing an overlap, which has consequently created a system of
discrimination and disadvantages (English Oxford Living Dictionary, 2016).
Kimberle Crenshaw coined the term in her article Demarginalizing the Intersection of Race and Sex:
A Black Feminist Critique of Antidiscrimination Doctrine, Feminist Theoryand Anti racist Politics
(1889) whereby her main focus is on the intersection of race and sex. Crenshaw refers to
intersectionality as a crossroad to describe how multiple oppressions are experienced. In her
article she examines intersectionality through how the court interpret black women s stories. She
uses the case DeGrafffenreid V General Motors, whereby five black women (the Plaintiffs)
accused the employers of discriminating against black women, as they lost their jobs after 1970
due to a seniority based layoff during recession. Nevertheless, the judge rejected the plaintiffs
claim, as the court states that they would of helped if it was an action for race or sex, but not a
combination of both (Crenshaw, 1989, p.141). The example Crenshaw gives, identifies how
multiple oppressions are experienced within intersectionality. In October 2016 Crenshaw gave an
empowering speech on how the media only covers black male discrimination by the state, yet there
are no stories about how black women are discriminated by the state,

24. Who Is Andrew Jackson Responsible For The Indian Removal Act
Andrew Jackson Debate Response
Although there have been arguments made in support for Andrew Jackson, his decision to [pass the
Indian Removal Acts were completely unhumanitarian. Andrew Jackson has to be held responsible
for the thousands of unnecessary deaths he caused, and he has to be portrayed for the man he really
was: a corrupt leader that lead America into committing mass genocide against the indigenous
people of America. This should not be looked over due to the other achievements Andrew Jackson
had completed during his life. He committed mass genocide, he was a racist who was driven to kill
and enslave other living, breathing humans, and he killed thousands of Native Americans for land
that America had no need for. He needs to be held at fault for his actions, and they simply cannot be
accounted for as humanitarian. Despite Andrew Jackson not being able to predict the outcomes and
consequences of the Indian Removal Act, there is no justifying his actions. Andrew Jackson was
the man who openly gave approval to committing mass genocide for the Native Americans,
forcibly removed thousands of Native Americans from lands they had owned for thousands of
years prior, and approved and appointed the individuals in charge of starting the trail of tears. In
February 1830, the Indian Removal Act set in place that potentially allowed the president to grant
land that was west of the Mississippi river in exchange for Native American s land within existing
state borders. In theory, this plan would allow the native to earn money if they wished to move,
and in return the Americans could acquire more land. The outcome of this, however, was a bloody
massacre. Many of the Native Americans did not want to move, since they have been living there
for thousands of years, longer than the whites have been there. Since many of them did not want to
move, the Americans used force in an attempt to push the Native Americans west in a movement
that killed over 4,000 natives. There is no justifying what Andrew Jackson did in order to gain more
unnecessary land. Throughout his life, Andrew Jackson proved time and time again that he was,
indeed, an extraordinarily racist man. As a result, his actions against the Native Americans

Aditi Ranade Professor Sheldon Research in Genetics 12/15/14 Acquiring iPSC Skills for
Further Research Introduction: The creation of induced pluripotent stem cells by direct
reprogramming has allowed for the circumvention of using embryonic stem cells while still
leaving the cells with the ability to maintain pluripotency. Instead of ES cells which were
originally derived from the epiblast of mouse embryos, IPS cells were generated from mouse
embryonic fibroblasts. This eliminated both any ethical concerns for whether those cells were a
living being or not and the need to destroy embryos at the blastocyst stage. An advantage of IPS
cells is that they are derived from human somatic cells which makes them easy to acquire due to
the possibility of using skin or blood cells. They can also be grown and differentiated individually
for each person that the sample of somatic cells is taken from which eliminates the possibility of
having any immune reaction and rejection to the differentiated cells during transplantation. These
characteristics of IPS cells are important because they are what enables us to safely and accurately
transform these affected cells from patients cells into neurons and confidently study them.

properties and uses of reagents and tools I will be using and handling, proper feeding and

26. How Is Hitler A Victim Of Post-War Propaganda
The Myth dispeller
Is Hitler a victim of post war propaganda; why has the term Nazi become a term of abuse and was
Hitler really a racist?
Myth #1 Propaganda in the west
Hitler was not averse to treading on people s toes and the biggest toes he trod on are those of the
Jews. Like others before him, he stemmed the tide of European Jewry, but failed to conquer
worldwide Zionism, especially in the U.S. The legacy he left behind him and especially his final
testament still echo s today. Centuries will pass away, but out of the ruins of our towns and
monuments the hatred against those finally responsible whom we have to thank for everything,
international Jewry and its helpers, will grow.

forces were still segregated, and twenty years before the UK, who still had signs in guesthouses in
the 1960 s which read No Irish, dogs or blacks.
Hitler believed in the superiority of races and distinctions amongst them, not racism which is a
dislike of colour. The Second World War German army was the most ethnically diverse in history.
Hitler simply believed in the separation of races and the total exclusion of the Jews. The white
supremacy label then is a recent add on, designed to evoke feelings of racialism amongst a dumbed
down and largely ignorant population. Six million, Oi veh! It is all designed to mislead and
misinform!
I firmly believe that in times to come, probably not in our lifetime, the west will again awake and
view Hitler as a man ahead of his time, a prophet. The Jews are a clever and manipulative race, but
their downfall, repeated throughout history, is that their genetic inheritance and a racial
predisposition for wealth, deception and control, means that they are destined to repeat the same
mistakes, which led Hitler to embark on a National Socialist

colour palette, however in Benglis work there is an irrational use of contrasting colours, this

In contrast to the previous two artworks, Paul Klee has undertaken an opposing technique in the

Iliad they may have existed as early as the twelfth century BC. The Games proceeded for twelve
centuries and were devoted to Olympian deities. Olympia turned into the site of these memorable
ancient Olympic games that scattered the seeds for the most desired global sporting events of
current times, the Modern Olympics. The location of the Ancient Olympics is situated in the
western piece of Peloponnese. As per Greek mythology, Peloponnese is the island of Pelops, the
Founder of the Olympic Games. The Ancient Olympic Gameswere sustained until 393 A.D when
Emperor Theodosius I of Rome discontinued them. There were not any Olympic games for fifteen
hundred years before they were resurrected in 1896 in the city of Athens. The man in charge of its
resurrection was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who introduced the thought in
1894. His innovative idea was to uncover the present day Games in 1900 in his local Paris,
however appoints from 34 nations were so captivated with the idea that they persuaded him to move
the Games up to 1896 and have Athens serve as the main host.
The antiquated Olympic Games started, when Koroibos, a cook from the close by city of Elis,
won the stadium race, a foot race 600 feet long. This was the only athletic competition of the
Olympics for the initial 13 Olympic games or until 724 BC. The Olympic Games, initially

for the infection. This bacteria can be spread in respiratory droplets when an infected person

or scarlet fever in the community, neighborhood, or school may increase the risk of infection. To
minimized the spread of this diseases and other childhood disease parents need to be educated in

In Freeman Patterson s article Barriers to Seeing an interesting shift takes place in paragraph 12.
Patterson begins to discuss his final barrier to seeing, the camera itself. He cites the Susan Sontag,
who claims that a way of certifying experience, taking photographs is also way of refusing it by
limiting experience to the search for the photogenic, by converting experiences into an image, a
souvenir. This position that Sontag takes shows that she believes that the cameraclouds are
memories of an event, only showing the most perfect part. I believe this to be true, with a few
limitations.
Sontag s claim that the camera only serves to cloud the memories of those who experience events
definitely has some truth to it. For example, if one were to visit a mountain range, and perhaps a

And example of this would be my Granda who risked his life to save a mother and child from a
house that was burning to the ground, an almost certain death situation. He put his needs before his

To take up cross is probably one of the most challenging commands of Jesus. Mark was writing his
gospel at a time when many Christians were dying for their belief in Jesus. Crucifixion was a
real possibility. There have been times since then, even to the present day, when Christians have
been persecuted for their beliefs like Nelson Mandela, who believed in the rights of different
races, whatever their colour and was imprisoned for 27 years in which he only saw his wife three
times.
To follow him means accepting the Christian way of life and treading in the footsteps of Jesus,
following his examples as closely as possible. Obedience to the will of God and putting others
first may lead to suffering as it did for Jesus. However, the invitation to Follow me also holds the
promise of sharing in Christ s resurrected life.
I believe that modern day influences can cast a certain cloud over Christianity. Yet there are still
those people who fight back to the discrimination and racial prejudice in our societies. Those are
the true disciples of Jesus Christ. He who hears the message should carry out the message. People
should stop thinking about what they take out of the world, but instead what they put back into

The gas tank was positioned according to industry standard at the time, between the rear bumper
and the rear axle, but studs protruding from the rear axle would puncture the gas tank. Upon
impact, the fuel filler pipe would break, resulting in spilled gasoline. The Pinto basically turned
into a death trap. Ford crash tested a total of eleven automobiles and eight resulted in potentially
catastrophic situations. The only three that survived had their gas tanks modified prior to
testing. (2) Ford was not in violation of the law in any way and had to make the decision
whether to incur a cost to fix the obvious problem internally. There were several options for the
fuel system redesign. The option most seriously considered would have cost Ford an additional
$11 per vehicle. Under the strict $2000 budget restriction, even this nominal cost seemed large. In
addition, Ford had earlier based an advertising campaign on safety, which failed miserably.
Therefore, there was a corporate belief, attributed to Lee Iacocca himself, of safety doesn t sell .
(2) Taking an ethical approach to the Ford Pintocase makes accepting the risk/benefit analysis
performed by the Ford Motor Company difficult. In making what seems to be the correct decision
based on numbers, Ford in essence adopted a policy of allowing a certain number of people to die
or be injured even though they could have prevented it. Ford s decision

military, and political power. Nationalism was very popular in the late 18th and 19th centuries;
countries were promoting nationalism in order to keep their citizens loyal. It played an important
role in generating conflict and revolutions during the World Wars and the Interwar years. WW1 s

1914 could be achieved only by blood ; showing that he knew that he must wage war if he
wanted to regain the lost land (Hitler, Mein Kampf). Once he came to power, Hitler was able to
rally the people using the idea of Lebensraum, or living space for the German people. The people
were excited for Hitler because they truly believed he would be the one to restore their losses.
People soon began to follow him more willingly, joining his Nazi party and increasing it
substantially. He then invaded Poland, the first step in his plan to conquer all of Germany s
former lands. Japan waged war against China for the same reason. More land was needed for the
growing population, and the resources in Manchuria were needed as well. Japan staged the
Mukden incident to legitimize their reason for invasion, and this depicts the effect that
nationalism had on Japan s leader. They went as far as to stage an explosion on their own train

extreme in order to make their country a better place for themselves and for the people living

Shakespeare prided himself on being a writer for the people. Authors during his time were more
sophisticated and their plays never seemed to translate to a larger audience. Plays were perceived
as something only the wealthy and elite got to participate in. But Shakespeare changed all that
when began to include the public. He turned theater into something relatable with an emphasis on
sex, love, violence and a sort of crude humor. He made his characters real. They were ravished
with flaws and became naturally empathic as the play went on. To achieve this a certain basic
human psychology has to be applied. And though it did not have these labels yet, grit and mindset
are things that makes these characters so relatable. Grit is described... Show more content on

35. The Effect Of Temperature On The Reaction Rate Of...
Aim: To investigate the effect of temperature on the reaction rate of hydrochloric acid and
magnesium.
Introduction: Chemistry happens everywhere, not just in a lab. Matter interacts to form new
substances through a process called a chemical reaction. Your body lives and grows because of
chemical reactions, whether by taking medicine or even a breath. A chemical reactionis defined as
the process that involves rearrangement of the ionic structure of a substance. A reaction rateis how
fast or slow a reaction takes place. Chemicals that proceed quickly have a fast reaction rate,
whereas slowly proceeding chemicals have a slow reaction rate. There are many ways to increase
the reaction rate of chemicals, for example temperature. If the temperature of the substance is
increased, the particles would have higher kinetic energy resulting in more more collisions. A
greater proportion of collisions results in a reaction. Magnesium and Hydrochloric Acid are the
two chemicals investigated throughout. Magnesium is an important supplement in the human
body as well as its uses in many lightweight products such as car seats, luggage as well as fireworks
and sparklers. Hydrochloric Acid can be found in the human body as a digestive acid.
Question: Does temperature make a reaction rate change?
Hypothesis: If Hydrochloric Acid Magnesium were placed in hot water then it is expected that the
reaction rate would be faster than the substance placed in cold water.

Araby, a short story from James Joyce s Dubliners, recounts an unnamed boy s transition from
childhood into adulthood, from a life filled with fantasy to all the harsh realities of life in Ireland
under British rule. The narrator of the story is the older version of the protagonist, and as a result
the prose seems far from what a child would write a preadolescent would not display such self
awareness and understanding. Further examination of the text shows that the narrator is actually
embarrassed and chagrined by the confused adoration towards his friend s older sister that marked
his childhood, creating a reflective yet fatuous tone that is developed through the utilization of

For example, behind the boy s house is a wild garden [that] contained a central apple tree, a clear
allusion to the Garden of Eden. However, the image is distorted by a rusty bicycle pump that the
boy finds. He later sarcastically describes Mrs. Mercer s collecting used stamps as having some
pious purpose and notices two men [...] counting money on a salver, an action that would not be
permitted in a church as it would be viewed as crass and unholy. Ironically, the boy himself is
guilty of twisting his religion to suit his own purposes. He believes that his love for Mangan s sister
is pure and holy, as shown by his attempt to deify her in his description of her as being not only
defined by light, but also touched discreetly by the lamplight at the curved neck, which is
reminiscent of the Virgin Mary in Christian iconography. The religious imagery in Araby
effectively showcases the narrator s aversion to apotheosis and the practice of placing a person on
such a pedestal. By presenting the information in such a way, the narrator once again conveys the
fatuous tone by appearing regretful of what he believes to be his perversion of religion as a child
and by portraying his actions as foolish and unreasonable. This is accomplished by contrasting the
perversion of religion surrounding the protagonist with his deification of the object of his adulation.

37. The Effects Of Global Warming On The Earth s Atmosphere...
Global warming occurs due to an increase in the average temperature of the earth s atmosphere.
Various reasons as discussed in task 3 lead to the rise in temperature around the earth. The reasons
include deforestation, burning fossil fuels, increase in human population and increase in the
amount of carbon dioxideand other greenhouse gasses such as methane, chlorofluorocarbons,
nitrous oxide and water vapor in the atmosphere. (Dai, 2013) Greenhouse gasses are produced
when fossil fuels or wood is burned. In other cases, when plants rot, carbon and methane are
released into the atmosphere. Global warming can be controlled through the following ways:
preservation of forests, minimal use of fossil fuels in energy production, efficient use of energy
and use of low carbon or zero carbon technology.
Conservation of forests: Forests can be preserved through prevention of deforestation and through
planting more trees. The importance of forests in controlling global warming applies where the
trees use up carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and therefore reduce the carbon dioxide
concentration in the atmosphere. Carbon, which is a component of carbon dioxide, is stored in the
trees and is necessary for tree growth. Therefore, preservation of trees ensures minimal circulation
of carbon and its products in the atmosphere. (Spies A.S. Mori, 2013) Deforestation has currently
become a daily activity and the number of trees affected is massive. Deforestation can be

38. Analysis Of Freda In The Dew Talker
Question Two
Choose three characters from the novel The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat (they must not be
from the same section) that resonate for you and explain why each of these characters speaks to
you. Explain why Danticat includes each character in the novel, in other words, what is their
purpose; why is this character here? Identify and discuss the issues that Danticat is using this
character to explore and how does she achieve this?
The Dew Breaker presented many interesting characters, so it was difficult for me to decide on
just three. The obvious choice would have been the Dew Breaker himself, but I decided to forgo
him and discuss three other less dominate figures in the novel. I chose these three women because
of their trials and tribulations, and tremendous strength to overcome their past. For this question, I
will write about Freda, in The Funeral Singer, Aunt Estine, in Night Talkers, and Anne, in The Book
of Miracles.
Freda The Funeral Singer Freda is the example of strength and determination in this story. I
admire that quality, especially in a woman in the 1970 s. It was more challenging in that decade
for a woman to be taken seriously, so as a consequence, most of the time, nothing was said, and
you kept quiet. This character was chosen to be the narrator of this story. Along with her other two
friends, she tells her compelling story about her life and the reason why she left Haiti to come to
live in New York. She has triumphed over the

39. Ireland Essay
A BRIEF HISTORY OF IRELAND The beginning of Ireland consisted of ice. Glacial sheets during
16,000 cal BP pervaded across the land, making occupation nearly impossible. It was not until
13,000 cal BP that humans began settling in other parts of Europe (Dowd 2016, 158).
Archaeologists have found evidence of Paleolithic settlements around modern Wales, West
Scotland, Scandinavia, and Iberia around the same time. It is likely, however, for hunters to have
visited Britain only for a few months in order to hunt horse and reindeer during the Pleistocene
Holocene transition and then return to their villages (Pettitt and White). After the Last Glacial
Maximum, cold adapted mammals, that either migrated to Irelandor survived from previous times,

2006; McLaughlin et al 2016,). Due to warming climate conditions, many large game species began
dying, except for wild boar. Causing Mesolithic colonizers in the latter half of the period to bring
domesticated animals, including cattle from Neolithic Britain, which had ecological consequences
on Irish flora, primarily on their function and resilience (McLaughlin et al. 2016, 120). With the
push of domesticated animals to settlement, the Final Mesolithic, characterized by stone tools
around 6,700 cal BP, ends with the introduction of agriculture from mainland Europe(McLaughlin
et al. 2016, 124).
By 3,720 cal BP, agriculture, including domesticated livestock and crop farming, had made its way
into North Western Ireland. Cereals correspond with rectangular housing during the Neolithic
House Horizon (McLaughlin et al 2016, 125). Carbon dating from Ceide Fields, a prominent
agricultural area in north, solidified the dating of agriculture to this time. With the rise of
agriculture, more solidified groups began forming in Ireland, based around hierarchical social
systems typically accompanied with agrarian societies (Hassan 2009, 52). The rise of megalithic
structures followed the formation of the sedentary societies in Ireland and Brittany, implicating the
groups were gaining more than enough energy from farming. Early portal, court, and

41. Allusions in Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville Essay
In Bartleby, the Scrivener the author, Herman Melville, uses indirect references to hint to many
historical, literary, and biblical events. Bartleby, the Scrivener contains many allusions about
important events that help connect this fictional story to actual events in Melville s time period,
before, and beyond. Melville uses allusions frequently throughout Bartleby, the Scrivenerto help
build connections with the real world and the fictitious world of this short story. One of the biggest
allusions in Bartleby, the Scrivener is the comparison of Bartleby to Jesus. In the story the
narrator is confronted by the new owner of the law offices. He asks the narrator if he knows who
Bartleby is. The narrator replies with I certainly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb. Then he went away (NIV, Matthew
27:60). Cicero, a very successful Roman politician, also plays a very significant role in the story of
Bartleby, the Scrivener . The narrator has a bust of Cicero in his office connecting the two cultures;
the Western and Eastern cultures however are strikingly different. At around 100 B.C. Cicero led
the Roman Empire in a very structured and civilized way. The Roman Empire s governmental
structure is very similar to the United Stated government because they both include three
branches. The Judiciary, the Executive, and the Legislative branches are included in both
civilizations; however the Roman s devised this system more than 2,000 years before the United
States. They also both have elected officials who are either elected or are appointed by the
Consuls. The Roman Government was very orderly and organized, the exact opposite of how it
was in Bartleby s office. This small detail in the story creates more contrast and helps us better
understand the changes that can happen in such a short amount of time. The law office was a
very orderly place, it just takes one person to throw any well oiled system off balance. The
inclusions of these allusions are very subtle and are not always obvious, however Melville took the
time to add these into the story to further build connections with the story world and the real world
to make the story

Stephen Colbert is a comedian and the host of the Late Show on CBS. He was born in
Washington, DC, and grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, the youngest of 11 children. He
was deaf in his right ear, which happened when he said: I had this weird tumor, and they scooped
it out with a melon baller. Surgery meant to fix the eardrum but caused damage to his inner ear.
Sadly, his dream of becoming a marine biologist came to a halt as soon as he found out he was
unable to scuba dive, due to his pierced eardrum. In 1974, when he was 10, his father and two of
his brothers were killed in a plane crash. Having a hard time grieving the loss of his brothers and
father, in his teens Stephen discovered he could make others laugh. Trying to break out of
