Student Stories and Content Strategy: Given at ConfabEdu14Tim Nekritz
The document discusses SUNY Oswego's strategy of using student stories and content to help prospective students learn about the university. It outlines their goals of improving lives rather than just focusing on marketing. To achieve this, they empower current students like Alyssa Levenberg to create blog posts and videos sharing their experiences to help incoming students find their passion and make informed decisions. They provide coaching and feedback to help students succeed in telling relatable stories without focusing on likes, followers or going viral for its own sake.
The document discusses the author's experience using various social media platforms. It describes her blog which focuses on posts about her interests and receives the most views on Thursdays. It also covers creating a video and using Facebook to interact with friends and follow brands. Twitter is mentioned as being good for finding information quickly but difficult to search. LinkedIn is highlighted as a way to showcase work experience and goals. The author reflects on using social media strategically for her company and being mindful of posts that could impact future employment. She decides to continue using Facebook but not blogging.
The document outlines 8 tips for becoming a true leader according to Dedi Dwitagama. The tips are: 1) lead yourself first, 2) don't act like a monarch, 3) be open to new ways of doing things, 4) understand that power will decrease over time, 5) establish a genuine sense of commitment, 6) finish the job, 7) show genuine appreciation, and 8) recognize that leadership skills are learned over time through training and self-reflection. The document also discusses methods for teaching leadership skills through games, discussion and presentation.
Blogging is becoming more and more popular as the years go by. Some people thought that with the advent of social media, blogging will be on the decline. Blogging though is stronger than ever. Social media has even made blogging more popular and has become a medium for the promotion of blogs.

Effective blogging while doing other full time activitiesBlogCamp Boston
Kate Mitchell outlines tools and strategies for effective blogging while maintaining other full-time activities. She uses an editorial calendar to plan posts in advance, Evernote for note-taking, and social media schedulers like Hootsuite and Buffer to promote posts. Tailwind helps schedule pins on Pinterest. Plugins like Revive Old Posts and Broken Link Checker help optimize the blog. Planners are also useful for to-do lists and reminders to balance blogging with other work. The overall process involves planning posts well in advance, writing while incorporating images, and scheduling promotions across social platforms.
Blogging can be an effective way to position yourself as a subject matter expert, build communities around specific topics, and market professional services if done strategically. While blogging takes significant effort, it provides benefits like communicating directly with clients and prospects, educating non-customers to attract new business, and improving search engine optimization. To blog effectively, focus on a niche topic, say something worth reading through original and specific content, promote posts across other social media platforms, and use tags and images to optimize each blog for sharing and discovery online.
This document discusses how businesses can use marketing media like blogs, podcasts, eBooks and social media to build credibility, visibility and accountability. It recommends defining target audiences, listening to customers, and focusing content on topics that benefit clients. Regular posting of high-quality, carefully edited content is important across all media types to engage audiences and meet scheduling guidelines. Testing equipment, having backup plans and getting others to review content can help create successful marketing media.
