MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS DEAD
Turn the ignition. If the engine does
nothing, your battery is probably dead.
POSITION THE CARS
Park so that the distance between both
car batteries is minimal without the cars
touching.
LOCATE THE BATTERIES
If you can’t find the battery, check the
owner’s manual.
PUT SAFETY GEAR ON
Safety first! Keep a pair of safety goggles
and gloves in your vehicle with your jumper
cables.
CONNECT THE JUMPER CABLES
Connect one red clamp to the positive (+)
terminal of the dead battery. Connect the
other red clamp to the positive (+) terminal of
the good battery. Connect one black clamp to
the negative (-) terminal of the good battery.
Connect the other black clamp to a piece of
grounded metal on the dead car.
(continued)
START THE WORKING CAR
Rev the engine above idle for 30 to 60
seconds to charge the engine of the
dead car.
ATTEMPT TO START THE DEAD CAR
If this does not work after a few tries,
you will need to have the car towed or
the battery replaced.
REMOVE THE JUMPER CABLES
Do this in the reverse order from how
you connected the cables.
CONTINUE RUNNING THE ENGINE
OF THE JUMPED CAR
Run the car above idle by slightly revving
up the engine with your foot lightly on
the gas pedal for about five minutes and
then on idle for another twenty minutes
before turning it off.
