Similarities And Differences Between The Schools Of...
Buddhism is a missionary religion that begins in ancient India and spreads to eastern and south
eastern regions of Asia. After the death of Siddhartha Gautama, since the teachings were done and
passed around orally, there was no official record of the Buddha s teaching. Hence, this led to
collisions of principles and resulted in various divisions of Buddhism. However, there are two
dominant divisions of Buddhism that still exist until today: Theravadaand Mahayana. While
Theravada strand, which is also known as the southern school of Buddhism, expands toward the
south eastern region of Asia such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos... The Mahayana strand, which is
also known as the northern school of Buddhism, spreads across the eastern region of Asia such as
China, Vietnam, Japan... Thus, in this essay, I focus and discuss the similarities and differences
between the schools of Theravada and Mahayana.
Despite being two different schools of Buddhism, both Theravada and Mahayana strands were once
a single entity. Therefore, they do have some overlapping principles, which are the core values of
Buddhism. First of all, both strands uphold the Triratna, which is also regarded as the three jewels
or refuges of Buddhism : buddha, dharma and sangha. Buddha refers to the fully enlightened one.
Dharma refers to the teachings of the Buddha. Sangha is the monastic order of Buddhism.
Secondly, Buddhists from both schools listen and uphold the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path,

Alzheimer s Disease, Vascular Dementia, And Lewy Body...
Abstract Dementia has many forms and it is a decline in memory, language and reasoning.
Alzheimer s is a form of dementia. Alzheimer s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder, meaning
the loss of function and stability. This is a disease that affects cognitive and physical abilities in
the patient. Many people in the world have Alzheimer s and it is in elders over the age of 65.
There are lots of treatments available, but there is no cure for it. Keywords: Alzheimer s disease
(A.D), Caregivers, Treatments, Cognitive Dementia is caused by a decline in cognition. About
35 million people in the world have dementia and it is considered a syndrome rather than an
illness. About 9% 13% of elders over the age of 65 have dementia and 2% of elders have a
curable disorder, for instance major depression (Rabins, 2014). There are many factors that
relate to dementia. The three types of progressive dementia are: Alzheimer s disease, vascular
dementia, and Lewy body dementia (Rabins, 2014). The number one cause of dementia is A.D.
The following discussion addresses the following main disease, which is Alzheimer s and
possible causes, stages of A.D., caretaking and treatment. This occurs in elders above 60 years
old. Research indicates that worldwide, there is approximately 24 million people with A.D. A.D
will increase over the years, so by 2020 it is estimated that there will be 42.5 million people with
A.D. (Ballard et al., 2011). Three stages were determined for A.D.

Essay On The Battle For San Juan Heights
In the early months of 1898, fundamental events took place in fairly rapid succession that led up
to the Spanish American War and in turn the Battle for San Juan Heights. Together, these events
solidified U.S. public opinion towards the U.S. involvement in a war to liberate Cuba from
Spanish rule. A war some saw as a necessity to end the appalling conditions on an island so close to
the American mainland. Some American officials including the U.S. Consul general in Havana,
Fitzhugh Lee, believed that it was only a matter of time before Cubawould be annexed by United
States. (The Spanish American War: American Wars and the Media in Primary Document, W.
Joseph Campbell 2005).

Classifiers For Emotional Speech Recognition
A Comparative Study on Support Vector Machines
Classifiers for Emotional Speech Recognition Jimmy Dani
Abstract Recently, increasing attention has been directed to the study of the emotional content of
speech signals, and hence, many systems have been pro posed to identify the emotional content of a
spoken utterance. There are various important aspects of emotion recognition using speech. The
first one is the choice of suitable features for speech representation. The second issue is the design
of an appropriate classification scheme and the third issue is the proper preparation of an emotional
speech database for evaluating system performance. Humans emotional speeches recognition
contributes much to create harmonious human machine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A better feature extracted is half success in speech emotional recognition, and then we take the
follow three issues into consideration for this problem. The first issue is to consider what the better
feature types to implement the recognition classifier are. The first step is to extract the related
speech features with potential value for emotion recognition. Prosodic speech features such as pitch,
energy, duration and statistics values like mean, median, minimum, maximum, range, variance
calculated from them are widely used [3] [4]. Besides, other commonly employed features are
related to ZCR, formants, as well as MFCCs. Lately, some researchers also take Voice Quality into
Advisor: Dr. Alaa Sheta account [2]. These basic features can basically ensure that classification,
but there is still much room for improvement. Therefore, some researchers have proposed some
new features, such as harmony features [2]. Some researchers also consider in combination
acoustic features with other speech features such as semantic features (individual keywords), and
facial expression could be a good choice. Dimensionality reduction is indispensable, thus the
second issue is further to get optimal features sets with minimal completeness. This stage aims to
reduce the size of the extracted speech feature set by selecting the most valuable subset of features
and removing the irrelevant ones. Its not easy to give universal and effec

Analysis Of Coulomb s Law Defines The Force
Introduction
Coulomb s Law defines the Force acting upon two charged objects relative to their charge that they
hold as well as the distance between them. The interaction between these two charges occur through
non contact which is prevalent over the distance between them. Vectors are most commonly used
to represent the force between two charged points. Being that is a force acting upon these two
charged objects the strength of the interaction between these two charges is a vector quantity
(Physics Classroom, 2015). The direction of these vectors is dependent on the type of charge on
these two points, like charges repel each other therefore they will have a negative force acting upon
them, as they repel each other. Opposite and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The direction of the force is also directed along the same line which joins the to charges together.
As stated before it can either be an attractive or repuslive force dependant on the charges.
This law however can only be used to calculate the force between two point charges, a point charge
is defined as an object that has a constant charge and mass however the charge doesn t contain any
size or extension.
The Van De Graaff generatorworks by inducing a charge on top of a metal conductive surface, A
rubber belt is passed through two different materials which causes a charge to be produced. There
are small combs at the top of the generator which comb electrons from the belt onto the
conductive ball which spread across the surface producing a net charge of the surface. The top of
the Van De Graaff generator is circular which will act as point charge when the charge has evenly
distributed itself across the surface.
Aim
The aim of this experiment is to determine whether or not the force of attraction between two point
charges is accurately modelled by coulomb s law and that the force of attraction between two point
charges decreases at the rate of 1/r2.
Hypothesis
It is hypothesised that the force of attraction due to the charged grounding ball on the neutral
Styrofoam ball will follow coulomb s law and the force of attraction will decrease inversely

of a Scottish nobleman Macbeth, who one day encounters three witcheswho conjure dark notions of

The Benefits of Introducing at-Home Testing for HIV in...
The growth of HIV cases in Indonesia is one of the most rapid ones among the countries in Asia
(UNAIDS 2013). Indonesia s Ministry of Health estimates that more than 500.000 people in
Indonesia will become infected with HIV in 2014 unless there is an acceleration of HIV prevention
programs (UNICEF Indonesia 2012). In Indonesia, the testing of HIVcurrently is done in voluntary
counseling and testing (VCT) clinics in selected hospitals. The patients are required to visit the
clinic to do the testing and counseling. VCT has been shown to have a role in both HIV prevention
and as an entry point to treatment (UNAIDS 2000). This program has been one of the most

Indeed, Wright and Katz (2006) announced that the amounts of suicide cases in the USA were not
increased after the approval of home testing kits by FDA in 1996. On the other hand, some people
feared that notification of negative result in home testing would diminish the chances to educate at
risk individuals to understand their risky behavior. Meanwhile, in VCT setting there are less
concerns about this problem because it has face to face counseling for patients with any results.
However, it is believed that direct counseling services currently provided in clinic based testing are
ineffective because they are too brief and inadequate (Harris 2005). Moreover, according to a study
that interviewed at risk individuals, most of them supported the argument that current face to face
counseling services were not necessarily optimal and also supported the introduction of new
counseling methods like brochures, magazine, and telephone counseling (Spielberg et al. as cited in
Whellams 2008). In fact, it has been demonstrated in a study by Frank et al. (1997) that pre test and
post test telephone counseling provided in anonymous HIV home collection kits offered a safe and
effective substitute to traditional VCT method.
Another drawback of at home testing kit especially OraQuick In Home Test is that it is not as
accurate as HIV blood tests currently used in the clinical setting. Its sensitivity is inferior to
standard HIV blood tests, especially the

Tanning Bed Essay
Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer among men and the sixth most common cancer in
women (Melanoma Statistics). According to the Melanoma Research Foundation, the chances of
getting melanoma increases by 75% if one uses a tanning bed before the age of thirty. (Why is
tanning dangerous?). In addition, every one in three cancers diagnosed are diagnosed as skin cancer,
and nearly 75% of patients diagnosed have admitted to using a tanning bed at least once in their
lives. Although in some states it may be legal to use tanning beds under the age of eighteen, tanning
beds have been proven to cause melanoma and skin damage when used inappropriately. There are
nearly forty two states within the United States where they allow minors to use tanning beds under
the age of eighteen.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reasoning behind this is because tanning beds are bad for one s skin, health, and no one
takes into consideration how much damage they can cause. 35% of all American adults, 59% of
college students, 17% of all teens tan, but yet no one seems to realize the damage because it is
so easy to become addicted to. Tanning beds have been declared as carcinogen (cancer crawling
substances). Tanning beds can lead to long term effects like wrinkling in the skin, damage to
collagen of skin, cataracts and mutations that impair the DNA s normal functions. But tanning beds
can also lead to eye cancer and damage to the tissue. There are many other things out there that
people can use instead of going into a tanning bed and damaging their skin each time they go. They
have things such as tanning lotion, creams or sprays that are not harmful to the body. Endorphins

Cigarettes don t only cause lung cancers but can also cause other problems to the heart and
blood vessels. Some other cancers associated with smoking include larynx, esophagus, bladder,

respiratory diseases. Emphysema is a disease that robs a person of their ability to breathe. This
disease is terminal and it kills you. It destroys a little bit of your lungs at a time so you don t

Irony in Pride and Prejudice
Irony in Pride and Prejudice
Irony forms the alma mater of Jane Austen s novels. Likewise, Pride and Prejudice is steeped in
irony of theme, situation, character, and narration. Austen uses it to establish the contrast between
appearance and reality.
As one examines Pride and Prejudice , one discovers the ironic significance of how pride leads to
prejudice and prejudice invites pride. Importantly, the novel elucidates how both Pride and
Prejudice have their corresponding virtues bound up within them: an intricate relationship that is at
once contradictory yet deep.
This goes in parlance with the critics of Austen who hold that she used irony as a shield to express
her radical ideas. It enables her to expose the ills behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Darcy remarks about Elizabeth that: tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt me...
We relish the ironical flavour of this statement much later when we reflect that the woman who was
not handsome enough to dance with was really good enough for him tomarry. He removes Bingley
from Netherfield because he considers it imprudent to forge a marriage alliance with the Bennet
Family, but himself ends up marrying the second Bennet sister. Collins proposes to Elizabeth when
her heart is full of Wickham and Darcy proposes to her exactly at the moment when she hates him
most. Elizabeth tells Mr. Collins that she is not the type to reject the first proposal and accept the
second but does exactly this when Darcy proposes a second time. The departure of the militia from
Meryton was expected to put an end to Lydia s flirtations. Ironically, it brings about her elopement.
The Lydia Wickham episode may seem like an insurmountable barrier between Elizabeth and Darcy,
but is actually instrumental in bringing them together. Lady Catherine, attempting to prevent their
marriage only succeeds in hastening it.
Irony in character is even more prominent than irony of situation. It is ironical that Elizabeth who
prides herself on her perception is quite blinded by her own prejudices and she errs in judging
intricate characters. Wickham appears suave and charming but is

Health Plan Survey Paper
The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Health Plan Survey is a
tool used to collect standardized information that analyzes the experience of enrollees through
health plans and their services. The intent is to design a support system that assesses consumer s
performance with the healthplans and it allows them to choose the plan that best suits their needs. It
was first launched in 1997 and has now become the national standard when it comes to both
determining and reporting the experiences of consumers through their health plan. Almost every
state conducts this form of standardization and sponsors within the U.S. include health plans, state
agencies who regulate health care, as well as federal agencies, such as the Department of Defense
and Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services.
The health plans are also able to examine the information gathered in order to use it to their
advantage by identifying their weaknesses to target areas of improvement and building on their
strengths to ensure efficiency. The Health Plan Survey 5.0 version is an example of a standardized
measurement system used so that questionnaires, other optional ... Show more content on

There are many reasons for educational underachievement and it has been said that ethnicity is one
of these key factors. It has been found that Indian and Asian pupils are of higher educational
achievement than White, African Caribbean, and Black, Pakistani and Bangladeshi pupils.
One possible cause of ethnic differences in education could be at the fault of the education system.
To investigate this Sewell conducted a study using semi structured interviews and observations in
an inner city boys comprehensive school, his study revealed the ways in which African Caribbean
students are labelled by their teachers, peers, white students as problems in the classroom. Sewell

For example, the home of a pupil is a primary agent in their socialisation and education and this
therefore has the biggest impact on the pupil so when at school they will either be handicapped or
at an advantage from their upbringing. For example, Modood argued that some ethnic minorities
have higher levels of cultural capital, despite often being from a working class background. Many
Indians and Asians originate from working class backgrounds even though they end up with middle
class jobs. These parents therefore place particularly high values on educational success and contain
the knowledge and understanding of education to motivate their children and help them to succeed.
Strand also investigates ethnicity and achievement in education, he compared the progress of
Indian, African Caribbean and white British pupils in their secondary education. Strand found that
Indian children made more positive progress than the white British students but African Caribbean
pupils fell even further behind. Strand found the Indian s success was due to both material and
cultural factors such as high aspirations and dedication to homework, low levels of truancy and
exclusion and good resources at home such as computers and private tutoring.
However there was no evidence that African Caribbean parents and pupils adopted a culture that
would hold them back in their educational success, they had high aspirations and a positive attitude
to school. Overall his research found

Laura Mullvey Male Gaze Essay
Male Gaze Theory Laura Mulvey
Laura Mulvey is a british feminist film theorist who coined the idea of the Male Gaze ; the male
gaze is essentially the way in which the visual arts, such as film and television are structured
around the male viewer, that is, that producers assume that the viewer is male. The theory
describes the way that media depicts women in terms of what men see. Mulvey also upholds the
belief that we live in a patriarchal society in which men set the vast majority of rules and
construct the views of the ideal visions, roles and male dominance over women, This is backed up
by the fact that only about 16% of media creators are female. Mulvey believed that women were
the bearers of meaning and not the makers of meaning. Within the male gaze theory, There are 3
parts of the male gaze:
Men looking at women
Men tend to look at women s curves, this is the idea that men tend to look at other parts of a
women s bodies and not their eyes. Which is why the camera in films also focus on other parts of

The Concept Of Heritage In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Heritage: it is something that everyone possesses, whether they like it or not. It is not something
that people can choose, and it is not something people can change. Every family has their own
unique heritage, each celebrating it in a slightly different way. In brief, heritage is the celebration
of one s familyand culture through family holidays, feasts, festivals, and traditions. Heritage is
something that people innately celebrate, it does not require much effort to celebrate it. However,
some people make it something not innate by using their heritage as an ostentatious display. The
concept of celebrating heritage innately or ostentatiously is explored through the characters
Maggie, Mama, and Dee in the short storyEveryday Use by Alice Walker.

Reflection On Quantum Leadership
I found this week s modules and reading assignments incredibly helpful and highly motivating.
Numerous concepts struck me as innovative and wise, and I can honestly say that I anticipate being
able to implement the various methods and styles of effective leadership delineated in the course
material. In particular, I am drawn to Transformational Leadershipas well as the Theory of Quantum
Leadership, the latter being an entirely new concept to me. Introduced in the 1990s, the Theory of
Quantum Leadership posits that effective leaders realize the inevitability and constancy of change,
collaborate with subordinates in the identification and realization of both goals and opportunities,
and empower those around them to be effective and productive. It is traits such as these that are
particularly vital during times of upheaval, transition, and change. The theory places importance on
understanding and acknowledging the complexities and dynamics of the environment and context,
as this awareness has been found to have a palpable positive effect on productivity, organization,
and more. Indeed, the authors of Leadership Roles and ManagementFunctions in Nursing: Theory

George Trump And Martin Luther King Jr. Essay
Politicians and government institutions have been around for over thousands of years. Such
organizations and public figures hold tremendous value to society and the individuals within those

business. Their role as political figures in a democracy is to represent the mass public in different
issues, and in order to conveyconvince? their audience to support a particular matter they use
various tools such as diction, tone, and appealing to one s ethos, pathos, and logos. A series of

Why Golf Is Important Essay
First I would like to say, that to many people, even the word golf sounds boring. I do admit, that I
have thought that at times. Still, try to trust me. Golf can actually be a fun and rewarding sport.
Here is why you should give golf an honest effort to see if you like it for yourself.
Everybody get angry in life. However, did you know that playing golf can help. Here is why. Did
you know that 1 in 5 kids in the U.S. have anger issues every year? Well, golf could help you with
that because having a bad day on the course can be really stressful. Furthermore, if you play golf
enough, you learn to control your emotions (at one point). And when you learn to control your
emotions, it can lead to better behavior. Also, being able to control your emotions is just a good
thing. You have to control your emotions every day. But if you don t ever learn to do so,... Show

Yet, most of us just ignore it. But by playing golf, that could be fixed. Have you always wanted
good grades? Yet you don t have the patience to study, and never get a good grade? Well, if you
have the patience to, you might find that good grade you have been looking for. If you still don t
understand how playing golf could help you get a better grade, here is how. By playing golf you
slowly can start to have better patience, therefore allowing you to also have the tolerance to
study. By studying more you are likely to get a better grade. Patience is also a very important
skill to have in life, so why not have it? Like I said in the beginning, patience isn t something that
comes naturally to all of us. However, when you do have patience you start using it every day,
you just don t realize it. Even though you don t know you use patience every day you actually do.
Times like waiting in the lunch line, reading a book when the teacher is doing something or maybe
waiting on the bus, and so much more. Yet this is just another reason for you to play golf

A Brief Analysis Of My Organization s Sharepoint Team
Team Work Readiness Analysis
In this paper I am composing a brief analysis of my organization s SharePoint team. This analysis
will bring together different information that has been composed within my MGMT 581 Team
Building class. The purpose of this analysis is to determine my organizations readiness to support
team work. Also, a SharePoint team improvement plan will be included.
Team Analysis
In an earlier assignment I created a Team Analysis. The team analysis was composed around my
current SharePoint team within Salt River Project (SRP). The SharePoint Team is a self managing
team. My Team consists of two SharePoint developers, two SharePoint administrators, two
SharePoint supporters, and a college intern. I am a SharePoint ... Show more content on

Knowledge, Skills, Attitude
The SharePoint team is well rounded in knowledge and skills. We have entry level positions
covered with our intern, all the way to extremely technical positions such as our developers.
Motivation and Effort
SRP has an implemented bonus system which is called EPIC. The manager sets the team EPIC
around high level goals for the year. These goals are usually created around the successful
completion of known projects needing completion. If my goals are attained by the dates
specified, I am awarded an EPIC bonus. My EPIC bonus is usually awarded at 1 percent of my
salary for each goal attained. Team members are very motivated to obtain their EPIC, and I have
noticed this to be consistent with others as well.
Coordination Strategies
The separated skill sets create an environment that does not need much in the coordination strategy
area. My team knows exactly who is responsible for each task as soon as a requirement is stated.
However, the problem we have currently is a couple of individuals are consistently handled a larger
percentage of the work. The largest complaint around our current planning and task structure is that
it is unequal between team members. I am an administrator and have noticed the unequal load.
Team members with knowledge tend to become the go to personnel to assist others their tasks.
Team Performance
The SharePoint Team is responsible for the SharePoint software and

All Soul s Day Myths
According to a Roman Catholic tradition, a pilgrim returning from the Holy Land took refuge on
a rocky island during a storm. There he met a hermit, who told him that among the cliffs was an
opening to the infernal regions, through which flames ascended, and where groans of the
tormented were distinctly audible. The pilgrim told Odilo, who was the head of the monks in a
town in eastern France, who appointed the day following (November 2) to be set apart for the
benefit of those souls in purgatory ( ). What has yet to be investigated is what today s symbols of
All Souls Day mean to those who celebrate it. To accomplish this, I analyze the myths that
surrounded All Soul s Day, and I focus on how the symbols that come out of these myths help...

However, there are some myths that surround death itself. In the Netherlands and in Mexico it is
believed that the souls of the children return to their families on November first, while
November second is set aside for the departed adults. When the souls return, they come to be
with their living relatives. However, they do not come back to scare or haunt people like many
people believe (Quartier, 2010). If we take a look at the myth deeper we realize that it is a
deliverance myth, because the souls are being reunited with their families. In this context if we
look at Joseph Campbell s Functions of Myth we can relate this myth to the function that says it
is supposed to evoke in the individual a sense of being grateful, affirmative awe before the
monstrous mystery that is existence ( ). The sense of being grateful comes from the fact that the
families are able to be with their loved ones again. The second myth about death comes from
England, Scotland and Wales. The souls of loved ones come to search for warmth and affection.
The living helped these souls find what they were looking for, by setting up bonfires to lead the
way. Along with the bonfires there were traditions including decorating graves, special church
service, and all night vigils. When the souls returned it was believed at this time human beings
were able to truly see how the world is (Beckman, 2016). This myth could be seen as deliverance,
because it is allowing the souls to come back to their families along with that the living people
are able to see how the world really is. Then if we look at Joseph Campbell s Functions of Myth
we could argue that the third function about sociological order about what is right and what is
wrong relates to this myth, because the ultimate goal of the souls returning is to allow the people
to see what the world is really

Creative Thinking Job With Google
I am prepared for a creative thinking job with google, working on the Google Home because of
the skills that I developed through my technical communication class. In LMC 3403 I expanded my
knowledge on technical communication and continued to grow as an individual. I learned a lot
about a different types of voice personas and the characteristics of soundinterfaces. Perhaps the
biggest takeaway in the class for me came through the development of my groups own sound
interface. We were forced to focus on the user interaction and really think about the characteristics
that the voice would possess, including the details that go into a voice persona like Siri, Alexa, and
the Google Home.
During LMC 3403 I acquired a foundational vocabulary for discussing and analyzing sounds,
voices, and modes of listening through the work done on my blog post. I learned about
soundscapes and how the use of tempo, pitch, and intensity create different emotions; contribute
to the overall goal of the environment. For instance take a weight room and library for instance.
The goal of a weight room is to give high levels of effort and physical effort. So you may have
loud intense music playing, this gets the blood going. You also may here the low grunts of other
athletes exerting their efforts. This creates an environment of hard work and motivates you to
work harder. Now take a library for example you may here the low hum of the air conditioner, the

Augustine s father was a local Roman official and pagan, until he converted shortly before dying.
Monica, Augustine s mother, was a devout Christian and tried to raise her son as one also.
Augustine was a natural born leader in school, but at the age of sixteen he was forced to leave
because his father could no longer pay the tuition fees. Augustine turned to alcohol, gambling, and
prostitutes. A year later Augustine was able to return to school and studied law. When his studies
were completed at the age of eighteen he became a teacher. Augustine, despite his mother s wishes
for him to be a Christian, became a Manichaean. Manichaeans believed that one god created good
and another created evil, and that therefore no one was responsible for his or her sins. Monica
fervently prayed for her son s conversion, but he was stubborn and refused to do so. A year later,
while teaching in Milan, Augustine met Plato and Bishop Ambrose.
Soon Manichaeism became increasingly dissatisfying for Augustine. He became fascinated with the
teachings of Plato and was soon convinced that there was a single god. Augustine even began
attending mass to hear Ambrose preach. It seemed as if Augustine was working to reform his life,
but soon his lust took over and he reverted back to his previous ways. Augustine continued to teach,
but his heart and soul felt empty.
One day while sitting outside he heard a group of children chanting. Suddenly inspired by their

The human body consist of 680 skeletal muscles. The name of a muscle can distinguish its
location, action, shape, and function. One such example is the biceps brachii, which is commonly
referred to as biceps. As the name implies, this is a two headed muscle. The term biceps brachii is
a Latin phrase that means, two headed muscleof the arm. This is references to the fact that the
muscle consists of two bundles of muscles. Each of these bundles has its own origin and share a
common insertion point near the elbow joint. The biceps brachii muscle is the one that gave all

The name of the muscle comes from Latin, meaning, Three headed arm muscle. This muscle is
sometimes called the three headed muscle because there are three bundles of muscles and each has
a different origin and join together at the elbow. The triceps is an extensor muscle of the elbow and
its function is to fixate the elbow joint when the forearm and hand are used for fine movements,
such as writing. The triceps can function through either isolation or by compound extension
movements.
The quadriceps femoris, most commonly referred to as quadriceps, comes from Latin, which
means, four headed muscle of the femur. These are large muscle groups that include the four
prevailing muscles on the front of the thigh. Quadriceps are also divided into four portions, or
heads, hence from the Latin origins. The quadriceps are powerful extensors of the knee joint. These
muscles are crucial for walking, running, jumping, and squatting.
The skeletal muscles are one of three major muscles types. As the name implies, these muscles are

Karma Of Hinduism And Western Culture
Karma in Hinduism Western Culture Karma is a well known term that has been used throughout
the ages. Though it was first used through Hinduism, people from all over the world and from
different cultures have all learn its definition and use it in their daily lives. While in Hinduism,
karma is a normal part of their lives and path to God, but in Western culture, karmais normally
welcomed when there is revenge to be had or a reward to be received. In some cases it could be
both. In Hinduism, karma is basically cause and effect. It leaves no room for chances and depends
heavily on personal responsibility, so no saying that an event happened by luck, good or bad
(Huston 64). This idea can sometimes lead other outside the religion and few in to relate it to
fatalism, but to Hindus that understand it, it is not like fatalism at all (Huston 65). For them,
karma allows for you to make choices freely, but with each choice does come consequences, but
not every consequence is bad. It is all choices and consequences are all based of what the soul or
jiva wanted(Huston 65). The actions of a jiva, or the choices it makes, will all lead to an eventual
life of repetition of wanting more out of life, but if it can see past the game that it is and insteads
goes after something infinite and eternal, then will the jiva fill more complete (Huston 66). For
Hindus, karma is just another part of their lives but does not bring fear to them. Meanwhile, in
western societies, karma is many times

The American Dream In Ta-Nehisi Coates Invisible Man
The American Dream and its projected image, much like the American system, is damaged. Not
only has the American Dream become a myth for most of the population, but it is rendered near
impossible for black people. Ta Nehisi Coates basically presents the Dream as a fallacy and plainly
nonexistent in his letter to his son, while the protagonist in Ellison s novel does actually carry and
achieve the Dream in a beautiful and treasured way throughout the book. Nevertheless, the
American Dream in Invisible Manwould prove to be too fragile and break when in full contact with
reality. Throughout his journey, the protagonist finds motivation in himself more than anywhere

Education, too, is a weapon. However, it is not hard to understand why going to school can be
fearful for black children of this nation: they are three times more likely than their white peers to
be suspended or expelled, according to U.S. Department of Education. Along with other
institutions, education is discriminatory down to the system s very roots. Ta Nehisi Coates would
most probably agree, having received nothing short of fearful education he earned growing up in
Baltimore (Hagan 60). He explains that rather than learning to trust his education and educators, he,
as a African American, cannot say that [he] truly believed any of them (Coates 26). Just as any
establishment, education has been crafted and taught by the White Man, which is exactly why one
simply cannot blame Coates or the Black Man for being skeptical. While the nature of education is
white, so might be explanations given to children throughout adolescence. Coates and critics are
particularly appalled at the blatant exoneration still taking place in schools today with educators
speaking of personal responsibility in a country authored and sustained by a criminal
irresponsibility (Daniels 3). Unfortunately, being an educator does not make one credible, actually
quite the opposite. Although not explicitly, working in education does make one the inevitable
embodiment of the system s manifold values, both positive and negative, and in the eyes of those
betrayed by it, someone hard to trust and believe. As critic Wang phrased it, A black minister who
gives a wonderful speech about the importance of education turns out to be blind (Wang 1). In
essence, the minister is in the wrong, regardless of his individual experience with education. It is an
institution that cheats black people. Its educators are still predominantly white, it fuels the school

Wireless Access And The Transmission Bandwidth
Abstract The demand for wireless access is permanently growing and the transmission bandwidth
is limited. Higher data rates and signal quality is always desired among the users; therefore a more
efficient use of the frequency resource is needed to fill the user capacity needs. Space Division
Multiple Access (SDMA) is used to increase the capacity given by regular multiple access
techniques (FDMA, TDMA and CDMA) using the user position information to provide access to
the best communication channel based on their spatial location. This paper presents Smart Antenna
techniques applied to SDMA systems as an efficient frequency usage technique.

The spectrum is limited, but multiple access techniques allow a large number of mobile users to
share the same allocated spectrum efficiently and use the same bandwidth at the same time without
degrading the existing quality of service.
Sending and receiving simultaneously information to and from the base station is desirable among
wireless communication systems. Equipping these base stations with smart antenna arrays enable
beam steering in contrast to sectorized single antenna systems. This make possible to Base
Stations to send data to specific users on the down link or to receive directed data on the up link
by reusing channels within a cell for Mobile Stations (MS), spatially separated by smart antenna
arrays.
Cellular system divides the area into cells where mobile units are located and aims to increase
the capacity of the channel with an efficient level of quality of service. Channel access can be
achieved through: Frequency division multiple access (FDMA), Time division multiple access
(TDMA), Code division multiple access (CDMA), and Space Division Multiple access (SDMA). In
this paper we will focus on SDMA systems.

the commercial area became more interested in the field. SDMA idea was first introduced in 1947

Bartleby The Scavenger, By Zora Neale Hurston
Every literature has a new story to tell, but every story starts with a person who goes on an
adventure. An adventure can lead to many different places and have a variety of themes and
meanings. Because there are many directions a literature can lead in, it grabs the attention of
many readers. Since everyone looks at situations in a unique way, readers analyze literature
differently and develop their own ideas. While reading, people will start to relate to the characters
and their experiences to themselves and their life. Some of the greatest literary characters are
Bartleby from Bartleby the Scavenger, by Herman Melville; Delia from Sweat, by Zora Neale
Hurston; Hamlet from Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, by William Shakespeare; and Dagny from Atlas
Shrugged, by Ayn Rand. These characters come from different literatures and each of them have
a unique set of traits and characteristics. Bartleby is a man who had a great work ethic and was
hired because his boss thought the other workers would look up to him and therefore become
more successful workers. He was fast and didn t take any breaks. He was dependable. According
to Herman Melville, the author of Bartleby the Scavenger, ВЁAt first Bartleby did an

Three Important Aspects Of Applying For College
As a senior in high school about to graduate and start my college career I will tell you that I was
unprepared and applying for college. I wish more people had told me the importance of applying
early to college because even though I got into my first choice college is always great to have extra
backup plans. I did receive some help in applying for collegethrough my schoolas well as my
parents. However if I receive more help I would have had more applications turned in. Three
important aspects of applying to college are the applications themselves, letters of recommendation,
and the ACT/SAT tests.
The SAT/ACT are required by most if not all colleges. You can begin SSAT testing during your
junior year and all throughout the application process. It is best to start during your junior year
because this allows you to take the test multiple times in case your scores are the best. I highly

Letters of recommendation can be given in by teachers coaches or administrators in the school,
but others are allowed. I apply to the Naval Academy so for one of my letters of recommendation
I had an interview with the Admiral on base, and he worte a letter for me. The point of a letter of
recommendation is to give the colleges in sight of the applicant because in your application you
don t usually talk about yourself unless you are writing an essay. You usually want to have your
application done by a teacher who knows a good amount about you so your college choice can
see why you would be a great student at their college. The easiest way to get your letters of
recommendation for college with to have them sent over the same time you send your high school

raccoon report Essay
Raccoon Report
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Raccoons (Procyon lotor) belong to the Procyonidae (those who came before the dogs family).
This highly intelligent mammal has a rounded head with a short nose, small ears, and a sturdy
body with minimum length, thick, grayish brown fur. Raccoons are easily identified by a
distinctive pattern of alternating black and yellowish white rings around a large bushy tail. They
are also identified by a unique narrow black face mask with two white patches above the eyes.
The average length is 2 to 3 feet long (including the tail) and 12 inches high, weigh 8 to 22 pounds
(heaviest in autumn), and live for 10 to 13 years. Females produce one litter per year, numbering
from one to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this statement is generally true, raccoons do have definite preferences. Generally
speaking, when fed by humans, they like peanuts, sweets, fruits, bread, peanut butter, and especially
cat and dog food. Like feeding humans, though, don t overload them with treats make those for
special occasions, and leave the healthier stuff for most of the time. In the wild the raccoon
prefers: birds, rodents, crayfish, small reptiles, mollusks, bird eggs, grains, and small grass shoots.
Raccoons have a wide variety in diet and are able to change it when necessary.
MOVEMENT AND MIGRATION
Raccoons do not migrate but they do move within a home range. They will not spend any more
time on one portion of the home range than any other portion.
TERRITORIES AND DEFENSE
Raccoons exhibit solitary social spacing with each adult raccoon remaining in its home range.
They have home ranges rather than territories because with a very diverse diet the resources are
not very defensible, and the home range that males require for mating purposes is too large to
defend. Home range size of the raccoon is largely dependent on resource availability. Smaller
home ranges are associated with more resource availability and larger home ranges with less
resource availability. (Prange, 2004) Home ranges for adult males are usually about 4,800 acres,
but again this can vary with resource distribution as

The M M Theorem
Introduction
This paper explores the M M theorem. It relates to the financial structure we learned from BUS 132
class.
Research results
I.Assumption
The basic M M proposition is based on some key assumptions. Apart from some fundamental
assumptions that are always shown in the financial articles such as competitive markets, no taxes,
there are also some other important assumptions: No bankrupt costs:
There are two kinds of bankruptcy costs: direct costs and indirect costs. Direct bankruptcy costs can
significantly affect a company s cost of capital. When a company has debt, the company needs to
service that debt through making required interest payments. Interest payments alter a company s
earnings as well as cash flow. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Handling of Excess Cash
One of the theorem s underlying assumptions is that when a corporation gets hold of extra money,
it will not squander the cash. No matter how much free cash it has sitting in the bank, the firm will
invest if there are worthy investment opportunities; but if there aren t, it will return the money to
shareholders in the form of dividends. This assumption doesn t always pan out in the real world of
corporate finance as well. Experience shows that firms do tend to squander excess cash, often taking
on extremely risky projects with the free cash at hand. Symmetry of market information
A condition in which all relevant information is known to all parties involved. For example, in the
stock market, stock information has a full public disclosure, and all investors are in the same
position to share information. And it effectively reduces some internal unnecessary cost in the
transactions and avoids some situations caused by the information asymmetry such as adverse
selection and moral hazard.
II.Definition
M M theorem implies that conditions under which diverse corporate financing decisions are
irrelevant. The earning power and the risk of underlying assets determine the market value of a
firm, while the financing methods do not affect the value.
In the absence of tax, the M M proposition I focus on the irrelevancy between the value and capital
structure. The value of the levered firm must equal to the value of

Traders and The Silk Road
Throughout history roads and routes has been an important means of transportation to the world. In
today s society roads connect us to different cities, and used for shipping valuables. Human beings
constantly use these routes as a way to trade their product repeating what others have done
throughout history. The Silk Road was one of the main routes used for trading valuables and
merchandise. The road stretched from Chinaand along the Mediterranean Sea being used by
mankind for thousands of years. This trade route revolutionized our understanding of the
connections between different regions of Asia. In return the valuables and goods enhance the
importance of the Silk Road. Each type of contact with every encounter has a connection from
the various artworks. The Silk Road carried many products; however, the most valuable product
was Silk. Traders were confused about this mysterious product because of the limited knowledge
and the unknown producer. The culture behind this popular product was the Chinese, who kept
silk as a secret for thousands of years. According to legends Lady Hsi Ling Shih, who was given
the title of Silk Goddess, founded silk when a silkworm capsule fell from a tree into her tea. This
lead to the discovery of silk began and China gathering and producing silk. Silk was the most
traded product along the Silk Road, leading to the first evidence of silk trading when an Egyptian
female mummy was revealed in the village of Deir el Medina near Thebes and the

Essay about Amazon.Com and Mattel
Amazon.com, from a strategic approach, is dominating the world wide web. They have become the
world leader in online sales of books, music, videos, movies and other products and services.
Amazon knew that the Internet could be used as a distribution channel, thus reducing their supply
chain relations. By making these strategic advances, Amazon was able to achieve and sustain their
competitive advantage. After researching and reading the 2009 and 1997 Annual Reports, it was
determined, that in order to achieve this recognition, they needed to acquire the United Kingdom
and German online booksellers. By these acquisitions, they increased book sales in the European
markets. They have also formed the following strategic partnerships: 1)... Show more content on

What Is The Purpose Of Ward Churchill s Crimes Against...
In Crimes Against Humanity (1993) by Ward Churchill the author s purpose is to persuade society
to make others see that the reasons for the sport s team s names are offensive, stereotypical, and
nonsense. Crimes Against Humanity is about how Churchill perceives certain things on certain
arguments. Crimes Against Humanity touches on the subject about native names, symbols, and
images and how they are used incorrectly. In the phrase, Let s get just a little bit real here. The
notation of fun embodied in rituals like the Tomahawk Chop must be understood for what it is,
Churchill reveals that the notation of fun is nonsense because sports teams are actually offending
the Native Americans in a way that discriminates them. Moreover, in the line,

Theme Of Nutting By William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth s 1798 poem Nutting was not incorporated into his later great poem, The
Prelude, but as a singular piece it reflects The Prelude s recurring themes of reflection and memory.
Considered to be the Romantic Era s great poet of memory, Wordsworth aimed to publish an
autobiographical work of poetry which would detail events which he felt had contributed to the
growth of his mind as a poet. Nutting, written at the same timeas several other childhood
recollections which would later appear in The Prelude, details an event from his past which
contributed to his present. The past held an attraction for Wordsworth, as he believed that the child
is the father of the man, or, in other words, that childhood experiences define the... Show more

It exists in the temporal space between the destructive young Wordsworth and the present
Wordsworth, as this self experiences a sense of pain when I beheld/ The silent trees, and saw the
intruding sky. The pain of remorse is inconsistent with a self which destroys mercilessly, and this
regret is what defines a self which reaffirms Wordsworth s earlier love of nature. The destructive
self is a felix culpa a phrase referring to the so called fortunate fault of Adam and Eve, which
brought about redemption as Wordsworth is able to reaffirm his love and respect for nature after
regretting its destruction. The rash actions of his previous self father a new self, one more certain
of itself. Wordsworth finds this self so crucial and valuable to his current self that he cannot
distance his present feelings from those of his past. The new self gains the ability to sense the
spirit of the place, just as the past self did, in observing that the trees are silent and the sky
intruding. The nook is no longer speaking to him, but it is once again described with the animated
qualities of silence and intrusion. The spirit does not speak, but it has returned from whence it
departed and intrudes upon Wordsworth just as Wordsworth intruded

Foreign imports fell drastically from 1919 1921 and from 1925 to 1927.
Chinese industries continue to develop in the 1930s with the advent of the Nanking decade in
the 1930s, when Chiang Kai shek unified most of the country and brought political stability.
China s industries developed and grew from 1927 to 1931. Though badly hit by the Great
Depression from 1931 to 1935 and Japan s occupation of Manchuria in 1931, industrial output
recovered by 1936. By 1936, industrial output had recovered and surpassed its previous peak in
1931 prior to the Great Depression s effects on China. This is best shown by the trends in Chinese
GDP. In 1932, China s GDP peaked at 28.8 billion, before falling to 21.3 billion by 1934 and
recovering to 23.7 billion by 1935. * The rural economy of the Republic of China
The rural economy retained much of the characteristics of the Late Qing. While markets had been
forming since the Song and Ming dynasties, Chinese agriculture by the Republic of China was
almost completely geared towards producing cash crops for foreign consumption, and was thus
subject to the say of the international markets. Key exports included glue, tea, silk, sugar cane,
tobacco, cotton, corn and peanuts.
The rural economy was hit hard by the Great Depression of the 1930s, in which an
overproduction of agricultural goods lead to massive falling prices for China as well as an increase
in foreign imports (as agricultural goods produced in

Of The Article Let s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial...
In the article, Let s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial Intelligence, authors Eric Schmidt and
Sebastian Thrun argue that artificial intelligence s benefits vastly outweigh the consequences,
and that it can be used to improve our everyday lives. The authors argue that when one self
driving car makes a mistake, all of the self driving cars learn from it (Schmidt Thrun 4), implying
that self driving cars are much safer than cars that are driven manually by humans. They claim
that since people don t learn from other people s mistakes, hundreds of thousands of people die
every year due to traffic accidents because of it. With artificial intelligence, those numbers would
vastly decrease and would save hundred of thousands of lives. In addition, the authors take a much
more optimistic view of A.I, as they write about how the AI revolution could free us from menial,
repetitive, and mindless work (Schmidt Thrun 5), meaning that artificial intelligence can do all of
the dirty work for us, while we do the much easier things. Schmidt and Thrun implies that we would
be much happier doing the simpler things and not having to worry about possible injuries during
their work. They state that artificial intelligence can be used to protect us from identity theft with
facial recognition and improve our lives and abilities by harnessing A.I.... Show more content on

The Moral Attributes Of Friendship
Friendship is a type of love called philia that is fundamentally grounded in both a common
interest and a desire for each other s well being. The moral attributes of both individuals that are
involved are significant in their friendship. According to Aristotle in Nicomachean Ethics, it is
because of these moral attributes that we were friends (149). Morality is a set of ideals that
should be strived for because they are helpful to humanity. Moral changes occur when people
begin to or stop doing these ideals. Is it ethical to depart from a genuine friend due to a change in
morality, for better or worse, by either party? In most other situations, it is immoral to depart a
friendshipbecause philiais a patient, but still conditional, form of love. In necessary situations,
Aristotle argues that ending a relationship is reasonable. If the members of a genuine friendship
change morally, it should lead to departure. This conclusion assumes that people can change
themselves ethically and that people who are a part of a genuine friendship can end their
relationship.
A reasonable problem with this thesis is the possibility that any declared friendship, which is not
necessarily genuine, that ends with departure must have never been a genuine friendship to begin
with. If it is true that legitimate friendships cannot be broken, then it follows that even a change in
morality that alters the friendship itself cannot lead to departure unless it was never a friendship
after all. However,

Female Genital Mutilation Analysis
The article, Female Genital Mutilation Is a Canadian Issue Too, explores how the act of Female
Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a social justice issues beyond the foreign nations it is associated
with. While FGM is associated with countries in Africa and the Middle East where it is seen as
the norm, we see cases in our modern and progressive nation. The article first defines FGM as
girls being forced to have some or all of their external genitalia cut off and, in some cases, having
their vaginal opening sown closed. This may be performed on girls anytime from infancy to
puberty and can result in multiple life threatening health complications. The article goes on to
explain how the act is deeply rooted in different cultures but is also experienced... Show more

Yes, the article speaks to how FGM is enacted across the world but it does not speak to efforts
made internationally to end this widespread issue. Briefly, the role of the United Nations is
mentioned as In December the UN unanimously passed a resolution banning the practice
(Kielburger). Beyond this one line, there is no mention of international development of the
attempted ending of FGM. I understand this article was written by two Canadians on the Canada
specific section of the publication but I would have appreciated a little more global awareness.
How are other developed nations such as the United States or United Nations dealing with this
issue? What are more specific plans made by international organizations like the UN doing to
follow their general statements? I also understand that this article was written in 2013 and we now
have more context and information on this issue but I still wanted more depth from the article.
Perhaps, a follow up style article would be appropriate to see how the matter has

The For The Team Of A Team Essay
1.Why doesn t this team work? (While there is one obvious problem, be sure to think of other
factors that are creating problems for the team.) This team did not have in place the necessary
aligned group dynamics to meet the standard of a high performing team. In Kreitner Kinicki, the
first stage known as Forming states the team member should develop a mutual understanding in
order to work efficiently and effectively (Pg. 274). Eric quickly formed a team of highly diverse
members but good at their own field: Randy Lowerback (director of sales and marketing), Ray
LaPierre of manufacturing, Maureen Turner of the design division and Carl Simmons of
distribution. They all were the most capable person of what they did but working as a team,
there were too many problems arose. Firstly, there was the lack of a clear goal. Eric had been
clearly assigned as the leader of a team. That meant there must be a clearly defined goal for
everyone to work toward, positive synergy and accountability between members. They must
define what needed to be done in order to achieve their one and only goal, with a clear schedule.
Moreover, all team members should share mutual interest in accomplishing the goal. However,
what we saw in this team so far was more of a work group then a work team. Eric had decided
only one general goal of restructuring FireArt for the whole team without any more specific plan,
schedule or tasks. Within the team, even information was not shared equally as Randy

The Ditchdigger s Daughters
The different styles of parenting have negative and positive effects on their children. This quote
by Tamica Miller claims how parents different styles can affect many children s lives because the

Ditchdigger s Daughters by Yvonne S. Thornton, M.D., Thornton explains as the black struggle in
an unfair white America. The novel describes the oppression of the father and the consequences of
the six daughters of being black as he constrains, and helps them with every situation to reach for
his the level of excellence. It also describes how he helps his daughters to fulfill his dreams by
maintaining that each daughter should concentrate her distinguish on a career as a doctor. The Mr.
Thornton parentingstyle is very different than any other parent because he is very authoritative,
who approach his daughter with a clear fixed of rules, which needs to be followed without
asking him any question, which would have a big effect on his daughters. In comparison, my
mother has a very unique style of parenting my brother and me. My mother s parenting style is
positive reinforcement sometimes she is very strict and sometimes she is very permissive
because she does not want us to think that she is mean and rude. At the same time where she is
fulfilling our all dreams that we wish for, which helps her to bring a positive behavior in us, so
that way we don t have a negative behavior effect

  • 2. Similarities And Differences Between The Schools Of... Buddhism is a missionary religion that begins in ancient India and spreads to eastern and south eastern regions of Asia. After the death of Siddhartha Gautama, since the teachings were done and passed around orally, there was no official record of the Buddha s teaching. Hence, this led to collisions of principles and resulted in various divisions of Buddhism. However, there are two dominant divisions of Buddhism that still exist until today: Theravadaand Mahayana. While Theravada strand, which is also known as the southern school of Buddhism, expands toward the south eastern region of Asia such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos... The Mahayana strand, which is also known as the northern school of Buddhism, spreads across the eastern region of Asia such as China, Vietnam, Japan... Thus, in this essay, I focus and discuss the similarities and differences between the schools of Theravada and Mahayana. Despite being two different schools of Buddhism, both Theravada and Mahayana strands were once a single entity. Therefore, they do have some overlapping principles, which are the core values of Buddhism. First of all, both strands uphold the Triratna, which is also regarded as the three jewels or refuges of Buddhism : buddha, dharma and sangha. Buddha refers to the fully enlightened one. Dharma refers to the teachings of the Buddha. Sangha is the monastic order of Buddhism. Secondly, Buddhists from both schools listen and uphold the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, the Three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are various important aspects of emotion recognition using speech. The first one is the choice of suitable features for speech representation. A better feature extracted is half success in speech emotional recognition, and then we take the follow three issues into consideration for this problem. The first issue is to consider what the better feature types to implement the recognition classifier are. The first step is to extract the related speech features with potential value for emotion recognition. Prosodic speech features such as pitch, energy, duration and statistics values like mean, median, minimum, maximum, range, variance calculated from them are widely used [3] [4]. Besides, other commonly employed features are related to ZCR, formants, as well as MFCCs. Lately, some researchers also take Voice Quality into Advisor: Dr. Alaa Sheta account [2]. These basic features can basically ensure that classification, but there is still much room for improvement. Therefore, some researchers have proposed some new features, such as harmony features [2]. Some researchers also consider in combination acoustic features with other speech features such as semantic features (individual keywords), and facial expression could be a good choice. Dimensionality reduction is indispensable, thus the second issue is further to get optimal features sets with minimal completeness. This stage aims to reduce the size of the extracted speech feature set by selecting the most valuable subset of features and removing the irrelevant ones. Its not easy to give universal and effec ... Analysis Of Coulomb s Law Defines The Force Introduction Coulomb s Law defines the Force acting upon two charged objects relative to their charge that they hold as well as the distance between them. The interaction between these two charges occur through non contact which is prevalent over the distance between them. Vectors are most commonly used to represent the force between two charged points. Being that is a force acting upon these two charged objects the strength of the interaction between these two charges is a vector quantity (Physics Classroom, 2015). The direction of these vectors is dependent on the type of charge on these two points, like charges repel each other therefore they will have a negative force acting upon them, as they repel each other. The Van De Graaff generatorworks by inducing a charge on top of a metal conductive surface, A rubber belt is passed through two different materials which causes a charge to be produced. There are small combs at the top of the generator which comb electrons from the belt onto the conductive ball which spread across the surface producing a net charge of the surface. The top of the Van De Graaff generator is circular which will act as point charge when the charge has evenly distributed itself across the surface. Aim The aim of this experiment is to determine whether or not the force of attraction between two point charges is accurately modelled by coulomb s law and that the force of attraction between two point charges decreases at the rate of 1/r2. Hypothesis It is hypothesised that the force of attraction due to the charged grounding ball on the neutral Styrofoam ball will follow coulomb s law and the force of attraction will decrease inversely ... However, it is believed that direct counseling services currently provided in clinic based testing are ineffective because they are too brief and inadequate (Harris 2005). • 25. All Soul s Day Myths According to a Roman Catholic tradition, a pilgrim returning from the Holy Land took refuge on a rocky island during a storm. There he met a hermit, who told him that among the cliffs was an opening to the infernal regions, through which flames ascended, and where groans of the tormented were distinctly audible. The pilgrim told Odilo, who was the head of the monks in a town in eastern France, who appointed the day following (November 2) to be set apart for the benefit of those souls in purgatory ( ). What has yet to be investigated is what today s symbols of All Souls Day mean to those who celebrate it. However, there are some myths that surround death itself. In the Netherlands and in Mexico it is believed that the souls of the children return to their families on November first, while November second is set aside for the departed adults. When the souls return, they come to be with their living relatives. However, they do not come back to scare or haunt people like many people believe (Quartier, 2010). If we take a look at the myth deeper we realize that it is a deliverance myth, because the souls are being reunited with their families. In this context if we look at Joseph Campbell s Functions of Myth we can relate this myth to the function that says it is supposed to evoke in the individual a sense of being grateful, affirmative awe before the monstrous mystery that is existence ( ). The sense of being grateful comes from the fact that the families are able to be with their loved ones again. The second myth about death comes from England, Scotland and Wales. The souls of loved ones come to search for warmth and affection. The living helped these souls find what they were looking for, by setting up bonfires to lead the way. Along with the bonfires there were traditions including decorating graves, special church service, and all night vigils. When the souls returned it was believed at this time human beings were able to truly see how the world is (Beckman, 2016). This myth could be seen as deliverance, because it is allowing the souls to come back to their families along with that the living people are able to see how the world really is. Then if we look at Joseph Campbell s Functions of Myth we could argue that the third function about sociological order about what is right and what is wrong relates to this myth, because the ultimate goal of the souls returning is to allow the people to see what the world is really ... While in Hinduism, karma is a normal part of their lives and path to God, but in Western culture, karmais normally welcomed when there is revenge to be had or a reward to be received. In some cases it could be both. In Hinduism, karma is basically cause and effect. It leaves no room for chances and depends heavily on personal responsibility, so no saying that an event happened by luck, good or bad (Huston 64). Ta Nehisi Coates would most probably agree, having received nothing short of fearful education he earned growing up in Baltimore (Hagan 60). He explains that rather than learning to trust his education and educators, he, as a African American, cannot say that [he] truly believed any of them (Coates 26). Just as any establishment, education has been crafted and taught by the White Man, which is exactly why one simply cannot blame Coates or the Black Man for being skeptical. This assumption doesn t always pan out in the real world of corporate finance as well. • 43. Theme Of Nutting By William Wordsworth William Wordsworth s 1798 poem Nutting was not incorporated into his later great poem, The Prelude, but as a singular piece it reflects The Prelude s recurring themes of reflection and memory. Considered to be the Romantic Era s great poet of memory, Wordsworth aimed to publish an autobiographical work of poetry which would detail events which he felt had contributed to the growth of his mind as a poet. Nutting, written at the same timeas several other childhood recollections which would later appear in The Prelude, details an event from his past which contributed to his present. The past held an attraction for Wordsworth, as he believed that the child is the father of the man, or, in other words, that childhood experiences define the... It exists in the temporal space between the destructive young Wordsworth and the present Wordsworth, as this self experiences a sense of pain when I beheld/ The silent trees, and saw the intruding sky. The pain of remorse is inconsistent with a self which destroys mercilessly, and this regret is what defines a self which reaffirms Wordsworth s earlier love of nature. The destructive self is a felix culpa a phrase referring to the so called fortunate fault of Adam and Eve, which brought about redemption as Wordsworth is able to reaffirm his love and respect for nature after regretting its destruction. The rash actions of his previous self father a new self, one more certain of itself. Wordsworth finds this self so crucial and valuable to his current self that he cannot distance his present feelings from those of his past. The new self gains the ability to sense the spirit of the place, just as the past self did, in observing that the trees are silent and the sky intruding. The nook is no longer speaking to him, but it is once again described with the animated qualities of silence and intrusion. Key exports included glue, tea, silk, sugar cane, tobacco, cotton, corn and peanuts. In the article, Let s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial Intelligence, authors Eric Schmidt and Sebastian Thrun argue that artificial intelligence s benefits vastly outweigh the consequences, and that it can be used to improve our everyday lives. The authors argue that when one self driving car makes a mistake, all of the self driving cars learn from it (Schmidt Thrun 4), implying that self driving cars are much safer than cars that are driven manually by humans. They claim that since people don t learn from other people s mistakes, hundreds of thousands of people die every year due to traffic accidents because of it. With artificial intelligence, those numbers would vastly decrease and would save hundred of thousands of lives. In addition, the authors take a much more optimistic view of A.I, as they write about how the AI revolution could free us from menial, repetitive, and mindless work (Schmidt Thrun 5), meaning that artificial intelligence can do all of the dirty work for us, while we do the much easier things. Schmidt and Thrun implies that we would be much happier doing the simpler things and not having to worry about possible injuries during their work. • 47. The Moral Attributes Of Friendship Friendship is a type of love called philia that is fundamentally grounded in both a common interest and a desire for each other s well being. The moral attributes of both individuals that are involved are significant in their friendship. According to Aristotle in Nicomachean Ethics, it is because of these moral attributes that we were friends (149). Morality is a set of ideals that should be strived for because they are helpful to humanity. Moral changes occur when people begin to or stop doing these ideals. Is it ethical to depart from a genuine friend due to a change in morality, for better or worse, by either party? In most other situations, it is immoral to depart a friendshipbecause philiais a patient, but still conditional, form of love. In necessary situations, Aristotle argues that ending a relationship is reasonable. If the members of a genuine friendship change morally, it should lead to departure. This conclusion assumes that people can change themselves ethically and that people who are a part of a genuine friendship can end their relationship. A reasonable problem with this thesis is the possibility that any declared friendship, which is not necessarily genuine, that ends with departure must have never been a genuine friendship to begin with. If it is true that legitimate friendships cannot be broken, then it follows that even a change in morality that alters the friendship itself cannot lead to departure unless it was never a friendship after all. I understand this article was written by two Canadians on the Canada specific section of the publication but I would have appreciated a little more global awareness. This team did not have in place the necessary aligned group dynamics to meet the standard of a high performing team. In Kreitner Kinicki, the first stage known as Forming states the team member should develop a mutual understanding in order to work efficiently and effectively (Pg. 274). Eric quickly formed a team of highly diverse members but good at their own field: Randy Lowerback (director of sales and marketing), Ray LaPierre of manufacturing, Maureen Turner of the design division and Carl Simmons of distribution. They all were the most capable person of what they did but working as a team, there were too many problems arose. Firstly, there was the lack of a clear goal. Eric had been clearly assigned as the leader of a team. That meant there must be a clearly defined goal for everyone to work toward, positive synergy and accountability between members. They must define what needed to be done in order to achieve their one and only goal, with a clear schedule. Moreover, all team members should share mutual interest in accomplishing the goal. However, what we saw in this team so far was more of a work group then a work team. Eric had decided only one general goal of restructuring FireArt for the whole team without any more specific plan, schedule or tasks. Within the team, even information was not shared equally as Randy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
