The Life Of A Slave Girl By Harriot Jacob
I never really paid attention to slavery as I did right now. I heard, of course, of all the basic
details of it like everyone else and hated the idea of it, but after reading this story, it really hit me
on what slaves went through back in the day. In the novel Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl ,
Harriot Jacob chronically writes about her personal struggles and sufferings and that of her families
throughout the better portion of her life from childhood to adulthood. Throughout this revealing
story, this brave and courageous woman opens my eyes on the extent of the extreme hardships,
unfairness, and cruelty that many slaves have faced and lived through every day and every hour
with just the hope and faith in God to get them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
119). While the men do work from dawn to dusk, they do have the comfort of having rest at
night most of the times. The women however, work all day and are called upon the master and
mistress s every request even during the night, away from their own families. Most mistresses
have women as their child s nurses through the early periods of birth so that the mistress is not
bothered in her sleep by the baby. These women were to be found sleeping on the floor at the
entry of their owners bedroom, ready to be awakened if the child woke up. One person that I
recalled reading that had this unfortunate position was Jacob s aunt. While in the pregnancy of
her own kids, she was required to resume her place on the entry floor, because Mrs. Flint s babe
needed her attentions. (Jacobs, pg. 217). It shows to show that female slaves own needs was not
even thought of at all and was shown no respect. They were treated like animals without even a
proper bed to sleep on while their owners slept peacefully away, undisturbed. Every day
throughout the country, slaves live through the fear that their loves one will be ripped apart from
them, sold off to other states and never to be seen again. And in most cases, this happens. That is
one of the most difficult hardship many African slaves face because since they are just property
with no rights, they have no say in this and can t stop it. One of the most tragic and

The Four Types Of Authority In The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games is a fictional story set in totalitarian nation Panem. It follows Katniss
Everdeen as she takes the place of her younger sister in the Hunger Games Tournaments. The
tournament consists of 24 contestants who are forced into a cosmic arena to fight until only one
survives. The Hunger Games exhibits four authority types; charismatic, legal rational. Traditional
authority is legitimate power based on customs and beliefs passed down from generation to
generation. The church, family, grandparents, parents, the Pope and the monarchy are examples
of people that might have the most impact in conveying what is right or wrong in a persons life.
Most individuals tend to follow their primary agents or leaders when it comes to what type of
practices they put the most faith in rather the leaders personal appeal. Haymitch Abernathy played
by Woody Harrelson was the winner of the 50th Hunger Games. He won by figuring out there was

power which he fully abused. The people in Panem feared his wrath to the point they did not
attempt any rebellious behavior against President Snow, he uses his charisma to legitimize his
power over the district. The traditional aspect of authority was exercised by Snow forcing the
people to be divided by class based on social status and demographics. Twelve districts were
established out of these classes with the goal of having these districts fight against one another until
their deaths. Snow ordered children, women and the elderly to participate in the Hunger Games

Chivalry Compared To Today
Chivalry was designated for knights as a moral code or law for them to abide by, but sadly has
been slowly being brushed under the rug by their following generations. Growing up I was taught
certain aspects of a new hybrid of the Code of Chivalry such as courtesy, honor, humbleness,
respect, and proper manners. Chivalrysince medieval times has slowly dissipated into almost
nothing compared to today. Now I am not suggesting that these traits have been lost indefinitely but
they have certainly minimized. Parents are not teaching their children to be polite or use proper
manners. Those traits are something I would like to thank my father for instilling in myself. I hold
courtesy, honor, humbleness, respect, and proper manners highly because many people respect that.
So how exactly did these values change me? These imperative values changed and... Show more

I honestly am not sure why I do it, I could be exhausted from working five days then go in to help
on my only day off just to be nice. I abide by these rules I set into place to keep myself in check. I
often see people at school or in public who are rude and do not show any respect towards others and
that enrages me. I would never be able to live with myself if I acted like an asinine fool. No one in
return will respect me if I did. I look to showcase myself in the brightest light possible and set an
impressive image for others to look at me as. Using my personal code of chivalry I believe has
really molded me into what I am. I hold my eating utensils properly, keep my elbows off the
table while eating, say please and thank you, help others when given the chance, and reflect
myself in a brighter light. I want to stick out from others to be viewed as a good person. Being
good feels good. It is as simple as that and if I can help others and myself along the way then I

Thinkers of the Enlightenment Essay
Enlightenment
The Enlightenment era was a new intellectual movement that stressed reason and thought and the
power of individuals to solve problems. Even though different philosophers approached their goal
differently, they achieved it none the less. They all approached their goal differently due to their
different upbringings, their different backgrounds, and most importantly their different
environments. A few among the many enlightened thinkers were Thomas Hobbes, John Locke,
Baron Do Montesquieu, and Jean Jacques Rousseau. While some of their idea s are not used in
modern society, they were all instrumental to the modern society we live in today.

Without him we might have strayed to an absolute dictatorship the likes of which was suggested by
Thomas Hobbes.
Enlightenment thinkers challenged authority by speaking their mind to say the very least. They
spoke their mind, instigated riots, and told people to change their own government. The fact that
they preached their mind alone without regard of consequence is enough evidence that they
challenged authority. Although many individuals were persecuted and intimidated into keeping
quiet, they were not scarred by their respective governments and it is for that reason that we enjoy
the fruits of their labor. Had they not endeavored so, and had they trembled in the face of adversity,
we might be living in a country without any centralized government at all.
Despite the fact that there were countless enlightenment thinkers, there are still many identifiable
similarities between various of them. For example Thomas Hobbes and Jean Jacques Rousseau
both believed in the need for a social contract, and in individualism. They both disagreed on how to
go about these things. Thomas Hobbes described an absolute monarchy with limited rights. Jean
Jacques Rousseau on the other hand described an democracy with unalienable rights. These two
thinkers are a perfect example who thought of different ideals, practiced them in different ways, but
nonetheless helped shape the world we live in today.

Informative Speech On Life On Mars
I.Introduction
A.Attention getter: Have you ever just gazed at the night sky and looked at the stars and thought
to yourself Is there life on other planets such as, Mars? Then, you begin to think if NASA will hire
you after you applied 20 years ago.
B.Speaker Credibility: When I took an astronomy course at USC, my class was getting into life on
Mars. At the moment of my semester, NASA discovered water on Mars. This was a discovery that
caught my attention therefore, decided to speak about it.
C.Thematic Statement: Today I will speak and explain if it is possible for Mars to contain life.
D.Preview Statement: The possibility of life on mars is an extravagant topic to look at. Before
that, we must analyze Mars itself along with its conditions. First, we will talk about the ice caps
located on Mars. Second, we will examine the water streaks on Mars. Third we will observe if the
red planet is inhabitable for humans to conquer it.
II.Body
A.Main Point 1: Us humans have overpopulated the earth and will continue to grow if actions
aren t took. We had a population approximate to 7.4 billion people living on earth in 2016. It
takes about 40 years to increase the population by 3 billion. Earth can only hold 10 billion people
max. Therefore, we will overpopulate the earth around 2040. We need to conquer another planet
however, not all planets have the basic elements to sustain life.
B.Main Point 1: One of our discoveries were the polar ice caps on Mars.
1.Supporting Material: Jpl.nasa.gov. released an article titled Mars Ice Deposit Holds as Much
Water as Lake Superior on November 22, 2016 stating that, Frozen beneath a region of cracked
and pitted plains on Mars lies about as much water as what s in Lake Superior, (largest of the Great
Lakes}.
2.Speaker s idea: Lake Superior has enough water to cover North America or South America. This
means that the ice on Mars can cover a huge wide span when it is melted. In addition, when the ice
on mars melts it can help create an atmosphere for Mars.
1.Supporting Material: The article published on space.com titled Red Planet Heats Up: Ice Age
Ending on Mars written on May 26, 2016 states, Mars can tilt more than Earth, causing the Red

Preparing to Mediate a Complex Contract Dispute in Florida
Mediating a complex contract dispute in Florida may seem overwhelming, even for the most
experienced attorneys. Complex contract disputes may involve multiple businesses and
individuals, as well as the careful analysis of various contract terms. Many complex contract
disputes in Florida end up in state or federal court, where they linger for months or even years
before they are finally resolved. However, mediation is also a viable option for these complex
disputes. With proper preparation, you may secure a settlement agreement ... Show more content on

The attorneys and the mediator should also discuss how the session will proceed for example,
will the parties be divided into groups? Which issues will be mediated first? Will mediation occur
over the course of several sessions? The key to successfully mediating complex contract disputes is
to carefully and thoroughly prepare for the session.
Finally, do not forget the importance of preparing your clients. Though this may be your hundredth
mediation, it is probably their first.
Business Divorces and Limited Liability Company Lawsuits in Florida
Limited liability company lawsuits in Florida can be a complicated process. Prior to signing a
representation agreement with a client in a limited liability company lawsuit in Florida, you must
make sure that certain issues have been handled properly.
First, you must make sure that the individual hiring you has the authority to do so. This usually
requires a close study of the limited liability company s operating agreement. In fact, a wise
practice is to have your scheduling staff ask these individuals to bring copies of their operating
agreements to their first consultation with you. This will save time and allow the representation to
quickly proceed.
After you have determined the issues in the business divorce (also called dissolution, since the split
involves a limited liability company) you should advise your clients about the advantages of
mediation.

Essay on Personal Narrative- My Love of Reading and Writing
Personal Narrative My Love of Reading and Writing
Reading and writing has always played a vital part in my life. From toddler to adult, pre elementary
to college, I ve managed to sharpen both skills to my liking. However, even though it significantly
helped, schooling was not what influenced me to continue developing those skills into talent. Many
different things shaped and influenced my learning, and now reading and writing have become
the safety net of my life. I know that even if I have nothing else in the future, I ll still have my
talent and knowledge. To ensure my success, I hope to further develop those skills so that I may

Reading was the new outlet for my imagination and the stories I read fascinated me. They weren
t too unlike the scripts of computer games or the own stories I came up with on my own, but
books actually had the action and emotional aspects written out. And again, while my peers were
reading things about growing up, things that had morals and would teach valuable lessons (I
remember one book about a shoplifter who had to do community service at an animal shelter), I
read real fiction: Jurassic Park, Dragonriders of Pern, Lord of the Rings... Stuff of fantasy and
science fiction that let my mind stray from reality. Stuff that kept my imagination alive while I
was being forced to learn multiplication and the names of countries. Of course, my teachers
encouraged me to keep reading, as long as I wasn t doing the reading in the middle of their
lectures. But it wasn t because of their influence, however, that kept me interested in books. It
was because I loved it. It put pictures into my head and made me think. So I kept reading. But
even then I knew reading wasn t enough... Yes, the stories were fascinating, but they weren t what
I wanted. Back then I wasn t sure what I wanted, but as middle school came to a close, I found it.
All eighth graders had to take a career class to determine what we wanted to be when we grew up.

Eye Fatigue
David Warlick once said, We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher
s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience
much of our world. But is that true? Technology is not only costly, but it also hinders the student s
health and grades. With the use of technology, students are no longer learning cursive which is an
essential part of their learning. The health of the student is very important, especially if they want
to do well in their studies; however, it is difficult when they are staring at a tablet or computer, in
school, for more than a couple of hours. When the students stare at an electronic device for too
long, it causes eyefatigue due to the fact... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can divert the students from what is most important such as: paying attention to the teacher,
doing their homework, or playing an educational game, even if it is on the internet. Also, the
teacher can not monitor every student in class while explaining directions or teaching.
Furthermore, computers and tablets can not meet all the students needs, since all students do not
learn the same way, if they learn better hands on or orally. Technology can also take away
valuable time learning from the teacher. So, why do we want to bring technology into the
classrooms if it is expensive, harms the students health mentally and physically, it s not helping
them, and students stop learning proper handwriting? However, this can be stopped! Parents, who
are in charge of their students, should gain more knowledge about this and challenge the school
board. Parents should also tell others, start a petition against technology in classrooms and they
should not only want safety for their children but also for every else s kids. Their children are
going to be the next generation of obesity, health problems and learning challenges if the schools
are allowing more and more technology in the classrooms, which parents should be concerned

The Role of Spices on the Expansion of Europe Essay
Within the development of Europe, one would think that religion and politics played the key roles
in shaping the regions, in which they did, but many individuals don t realize the true impact of the
role spices played in the evolution of the economy and expansion of Europe. Food alone represented
a vast field of human experience and shaped peoples beliefs and values, aesthetics and most
importantly their social attitudes toward one another. Spices contributed to these attitudes,
providing a potential window for the individual to change their understanding of the political and
social life of certain cultures and nations. The main question that the author, Paul Freedman poses

The high prices were initiated by the merchants themselves, preventing common folk from buying
certain spices as nonchalantly as the upper class achieved. This was not due to the difficulty of
obtaining the certain spices but based on the occurrence that certain merchants were infatuated with
profit. Obtaining the spices wasn t as difficult as one would think even after the collapse of Roman
power, since spices continued to find their way from Asia to Europe. Although many merchants
priced certain spices based on their rarity. Which was classified in three categories: intrinsic,
circumstantial, and artificial. Intrinsic rarity would entail that nature doesn t produce many of
them, growing in certain places under special conditions or climates. Circumstantial rarity, as
Freedman explains is, nature rather than human intervention limits the supply, either by climate,
soil, or other obstacles . The last of the three was artificial rarity is caused by deliberate human
action in order to limit the supply and drive up prices. In accordance with profit, merchants would
even tamper with their merchandises, which eventually led to the creation of Zibaldone da Canal ,
a handbook that included tips on how to distinguish quality spices from adulterated products. It is
commonly seen in modern times that producers altered their products, but

The Effect of Different Substrate Concentrations on the Rate of Reaction
My aim is to investigate what happens when concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide is changed and
how it affects the rate of reaction when it is broken down by the enzyme catalase (H2O2 Г 2H2O
+ O2)
Scientific knowledge.
Enzymes are biological catalysts, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions take place without
the enzyme being altered in the process.
Enzymes bind temporarily to one or more of the substrate molecules of the reaction they catalyse.
Enzymes work by lowering the activation energy required for a reaction to proceed. In order to do
so, and enzyme molecule must unite even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each catalase molecule works best at a certain pH and temperature. The values for pH, and
temperature, which give an enzymes greatest rate of reaction, are known as the optimum values.
The activity of enzymes decreases away from these values. This is due to the importance of the
tertiary structure in its function.
As the temperature of the solution containing the hydrogen peroxide and catalase molecules
increases so does the rate of reaction. This occurs because as the temperature increases the kinetic
energy of the molecules also increases. As the molecules are moving around faster there are more
collisions which lead to reactions between catalase molecules, and hydrogen peroxide molecules.
This effect continues up to the optimum temperature. Above the optimum temperature, the rate of
reaction decreases, as the increasing kinetic energy causes the hydrogen bonds, holding the
structure of the enzyme together, to break. This causes the active site to change shape. This is
known as denaturation. The hydrogen peroxide substrate molecule can therefore no longer fit the
active site, and the rate of reaction decreases until all the catalase molecules are denatured, and the
rate of reaction is zero.
The pH affects the ionic charges, on some of the R groups present in the amino acids, making up
the catalase molecule. Therefore as a result of

Cranial Structure
The primary structure in the cranial cavity is the brain which has a mass around 1300 grams and
make up by approximately 100 billion neurons and 10 to 50 trillion neuroglia in adults (Tortora
and Derrickson, 2011). The weight of the brain increases rapidly during the first four years of life
and reaches the maximum weight around twentieth years (Gallucci et al., 2005). The brainis the
portion of central nervous systemthat act as control center for registering sensation correlated with
one another and with stored information, decision making, and actions. Furthermore, it also acts as
a center for the intellectual, emotions, behavior and memories (Tortora and Derrickson, 2011).
The brain is covered by meninges layers consisting the dura mater, the arachnoid mater and the pia
mater. The dura mater forms the outermost layer of meninges that act as a protective and
supportive if the brain. While the arachnoid mater and the pia mater form the middle and the
innermost layer of meninges respectively. Furthermore, the subarachnoid space lies between the
arachnoid and pia mater responsible for circulation of cerebrospinal fluid and contains most of

Background of the Study Banana is a popular fruit. It s easy to peel, easy to eat, and easy to find,
typically located in a prominent spot in the produce section of a grocery store. With the wheels of
the grocery cart still moving, we don t stop to think about the battles the banana grower had to fight
to provide a perfect fruit for our convenient consumption. Fusarium wilt or Panama disease is a
severe disease of banana plants caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense. This

The War On Drugs And Its Effects On Society
The War on Drugs is a deep rooted controversial campaign of prohibition and military aid that has
been disputed for many years. There are constant debates as to whether there will ever be a viable
solution to the problem. However, as we continue to pursue the war on drugs, it has become
increasingly evident that winning the war seems to be an impossible task. Drugprohibitionand the
undertaking of the war on drugs have stirred much controversy over its moral and logical
implications. While there are many drugs that exist that are unhealthy when abused, it has
become apparent that the drug policies in the United States, as well as many parts of the world,
are inconsistent and oppressive. Ironically, drug laws were initially created for the good of
society, but it has become increasingly clear that drug laws and our undertaking of the drug war
have only served to cause problems. The current war on drugs has led to devastating effects on
society both economically and socially. Violence and corruption have subjugated throughout the
United States, Mexico and many other parts of the world. Additionally, drug prohibition efforts
have had very little impact on the supply of illegal drugs and have had little to no success in
reducing the demand for illegal drugs. The war on drugs, which is fueled by corruption and
propaganda, needs to come to an end for the betterment of society. Drug prohibition has not always
been accepted in society as it is today. In fact, there

An Introductory Course Into Animal Assisted Therapy Essay
Through this introductory course into Animal Assisted Therapy, I have learned about the Human
Animal Bond, the history of AAT and AAA, the five freedoms, the differences between AAT and
AAA, and the various populations in which this therapy responds greatly to. This paper gives a
detailed and comprehensive overview of what I have learned from this course and my own
perception of how I will incorporate things learned from this course into my everyday life and into
my future career in AAT. The HAB, or the Human Animal Bond, is the relationship between human
beings and animals. The American Veterinary Medical Associations committee on the Human
Animal Bond describes HAB as, a mutually beneficial and dynamic relationship between people
and other animals that is influenced by behaviors that are essential to the health and well being of
both (Fine, 2015). There are many factors that play into creating a heathy relationship for both the
animal and the human. Relationships between animals and humans have to be voluntary, persistent,
reciprocal, and built upon trust (Fine, 2015). Humans need to increase their understanding and care
for the animal while the animal increases their trust level for the human (Fine, 2015). Three theories
that aim to tell us why the HAB exists are social support, the foundation for mental health and
healthy functioning, theories of attachment, which explains the human needs of protection (both
needing protection and protecting others), and the biophilia

Social And Social Changes In Japan During The Tokugawa Period
Firstly, Japan s political structure was transformed to really large extent during the Meiji era as it
brought about changes such as in the manner of governing the people, parliament structure as well
as the reform in policies that the Japanese were forced to sign with the Western powers such as the
United States of America and Great Britain. During the Tokugawa period the Emperor Meiji limited
the power of the samurairemoving exclusive rights such as their right to punish commoners and he
also removed their right to be the only armed force in Japan, in favour of westernized military with
several different armed sections. In addition, the Emperor sent scholars to Britain, France and
Germany to study their parliament as well as study the way these Western nations operated.

Education was a main social system that changed during modernization. In the Edo period,
school was only for children of people in higher classes. Now it was mandatory for all children to
take. In 1871, the Japanese government established a Ministry of Education. It was designed to
break down class identities which helped raise the standard of living in Japan. In 1884 an important
man named Mori Arinori became the Minister of Education for Japan. He restructured the school
system which stayed in place for sixty years. As well, he established the Imperial University which
was later renamed the Tokyo University. These changes that were made influenced people all over
Japan. The government believed that Japan would become a more powerful country if their citizens
were educated. The government taught values such as national identity and loyalty to the Emperor.
This helped unite Japan and make them a stronger

Essay Shakespeare s Sonnet 18
During the Renaissance period, most poets were writing love poems about their lovers/mistresses.
The poets of this time often compared love to high, unrealistic, and unattainable beauty.
Shakespeare, in his sonnet 18, continues the tradition of his time by comparing the speakers love
/mistress to the summer time of the year. It is during this time of the year that the flowers and the
nature that surround them are at there peak for beauty. The theme of the poem is to show the
speakers true interpretation of beauty. Beauties worst enemy is time and although beauty might
fade it can still live on through a person s memory or words of a poem. The speaker realizes that
beauty, like the subject of the poem, will remain perfect not in the... Show more content on

Shakespeare uses two powerful metaphors in line five and in line six to compare the summer s
imperfections to the perfection of the beloved. In line five he uses a metaphor Sometime too hot
the eye of heaven shines to describe that in the summer the sun gets to hot and this is yet another
imperfection of a summer day which the beloved is superior to. Although some may compare
there beloveds eyes with the glow or beauty of the eye of heaven here the speaker has chosen to
claim the opposite saying that the sun is inferior to his beloved in that her eyes are more
beautiful. In line six of the poem the idea of the sun being imperfect is further enhanced by phrase
gold complexion dimmed this is implying that the sun is imperfect in that it is not always hot
enough. Here the speaker implies that the beloved is flawless in that her complexion is never
changed, remaining gold like. Nature that surrounds us is beautiful, the trees, ocean, and the wild
life, and although the speaker makes a point to disfigure the view of nature the intention of the
poet is to reinforce the beauty of the beloved. In line nine thy eternal summer shall not fade is an
allusion to the beloved staying young and beautiful for eternity. This line is referring to the season
changing from summer to winter, this means that the beauty is temporary and fades over a short
period of time. The beloved on the other hand is

Mount Vernon during the entire war. Martha arrived Feb 10th and stayed until about June 9th.
Much of her time was spent mending uniforms for her husband and bachelor officers according to
most accounts. She also entertained the wives of other officers present at the encampment and
helped manage the household. On occasion she was directly involved with the headquarters
activities, such as when she entertained Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Pleasant and two other Quaker ladies
who had come to see the General. Pierre Etienne Duponceau, secretary to Baron Von Steuben

Descartes s Theory Of Knowledge Essay
Descartes begins his Meditation observing that there have been many occasions in the past when
he had thought he was acquiring important knowledge yet subsequently discovering to have been
mistaken. Therefore he aims to find a method that will render the research absolutely immune
from the very possibility of error. The method of doubt is not only an epistemological method,
but successfully fulfills the purpose of Descartes by helping to achieve important metaphysical
results. One fundamental reason Descartes gives his readers to doubt everyday beliefs about the
world, is to build up a system of reliable knowledge. To do so it is necessary that he gets rid of all
the unreliable beliefs he might have had. He notices that most of us tend to manage life though
ad hoc revisionism, which he finds inadequate. His most powerful reason becomes clear when
Descartes presents our collective beliefs in the image of an imaginative house, which unlike
most houses, is entirely ad hoc. This house is the metaphor for the course of human life: with no
blueprint or architectural drawing. No three years old makes any sort of long term plan. Would
we really want our position in the world to be determined by a three years old? The meditations
offer a chance to start over by demolition of our old dwelling. By illustrating what is weakest in
the science (the lack of a guiding principle e.g. blueprint), Descartes wished to offer the basis for
the new science. Scientia (knowledge) extends to

The tinker s object is broken and remade, the town is taken, the love affair is irresistibly
consummated, even as the paradox of virtue and passion is glowingly resolved.
So the strategy of the poem appears to be that of approaching a dangerous, blasphemous
anthropomorphism in the heat of devotion, but deflecting that danger, just in time, by the equation
of sensual passion to spiritual virtue; for the concluding couplet declares that true freedom comes
when one is imprisoned by God, and that purity of heart comes with God s ravishment (sexual
assault, with the double meaning of ravish as to win the heart of someone). By the poem s
conclusion, the conceit of the rape which ensures chastity no longer skirts blasphemy. In fact, in
Donne s hands, it even becomes orthodox, an ideal of devotion worthy of emulation.
This resolution of discordant imagery, this stillness after the petitionary storm, is reflected in the
poem s metrical pattern as well. Nominally iambic pentameter, as befits a sonnet, the first twelve

subject of spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are gifts of God enabling the Christians to perform his

complete His work here on earth and also glorify His name. When we are chosen to by God to

In hopes of the devil not being able to disrupt or hear our prayers.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the Holy Spirit blesses someone with his presence after
they have been saved. It is a very emotional experience in which the person feels the presence of
the Holy Spirit. A biblical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is in second chapter of Acts
where the disciples were sitting together in the upper room and they were filled with the Holy
Spirit and they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Speaking in tongues
is one of the things that happens when the Holy Spirit has baptizes us; it shows the presence of
God is with the person. Speaking in tongues is not a necessary sign of the baptism of the Holy
Spirit in my opinion, although it did happened to the disciples when they got baptized with the
Holy Spirit. The gift of speaking in tongues does not really mean that the Holy Spirit baptizes one.
It truly is one of the gifts that the Holy Spirit gives, but it is not the only gift that appears once
someone has been baptized.
I believe that the speaking in tongues is valid still today because the bible speaks on it and doesn t
state that we shouldn t speak in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:5 states, I wish you all spoke with
tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than who speaks with
tongues... (New King James Version). Though this verse is a bit confusing for my understanding, the

the quote given, you can picture very well the attempted murder and picturing you see children

of Grenouille bothers the children they merely just want to get rid of him for the benefit of
themselves, which then again ties into how suskind is commenting on the nature of humans: that

A woman filled with astounding love. A woman dragged in adversity her entire life, yet still rooted
perseverance. A woman of steel, seemingly superhuman, with a heart of compassion. A woman that
could be battered, but never broken. Throughout the novel, Cather uses Antonia as the symbol of
resiliency, a resiliency that could only be found by living the true American Dream, pioneering. By
describing her never ending strength and her undying love, Cather symbolizes Antonia as the
strength of a true pioneer. In the passage Cather describe these emotions when she states, I had not

which fires the imagination, could still stop one s breath for a moment by a look or gesture that

Cather describes Antonia as a weathered old lady, who has been toughened by the land. Yet,
through this withered appearance, Antonia s imaginative inner quality still shines through. Through
Antonia, Cather draws a picture of an enduring source of compassion and warmth, often providing
strength to other characters, such as Jim. Through Antonia, Cather conveys to her audience that the
true strength of the pioneer comes from within. She elucidates Antonia s character to illustrate the

An Open Campus Lunch Program Essay
An open campus lunch program is when, during the lunch period, students are permitted to leave
campus and get lunch from local businesses or even home. At Urbana High School we currently
have four lunch shifts, during which students pack or buy lunches. I believe Frederick County
Public Schools should start an open campus lunchprogram for seniors because the schoollunches are
not healthy enough or appealing and do not have enough lunch options. The benefits that could
come from this program go beyond the happiness of the seniors, they will reach the classrooms,
staff members, and community.
The lunches served in Frederick County Schools, and Urbana High School in particular lack
nutritional value and are unappetizing. When interviewing Casey Ballow (a student who buys
lunch everyday) about whether the school lunches are nutrional she said The majority of students

snacks whole grain, which usually makes them less tasty. Packing a lunch is a hassle because it is

An Effective Technique For An Organization
Changes affect every person in a business, including the managers and the employees. Managing
modifications in a business can be difficult and countless people within an organization can be
resistant for various reasons. Participation is considered an effective technique for reducing
resistance to change, other techniques includes education and communication, facilitation and
support, and negotiation.
Change in a business can be uncomfortable since it requires surrendering a certain way of
thinking and performing processes and implementing a novel way to accomplish a business
goal. Encouraging employees to participate in the alteration can be one of the utmost ways to
reduce the resistance to change. An employee who participates in the process of the conversion
is further likely to embrace the change. Therefore, one way is to encompass groups that will be
affected by innovative procedures in the development of fresh ideas. In other words, ask workers
for their opinions and suggestions and integrate their solutions. If people are given the
opportunity to seize responsibility for specific parts of a program their sense of ownership will
craft stronger advocates. Also valuable input can be gained from employees who really perform the
day to day work as management may not have the information needed to change the design. Before
making slight adjustments anyone who will be affected or who opposes the transformation should
be brought into the decision making process, provided they

Essay about Rhetorical Analysis of quot;Huddled...
Immigration; A subject that all Americans have a view that differs from person to person. Todd
G. Buchholz a Columnist for The Wall Street Journal, has once again brought the views of the
country and his arguments for how America should react in his column Huddled Geniuses
published on February 4, 2004. He address s the fact that Vincente Fox, the Mexican President,
wants to open the borders between Mexico and the United States, and how the American public
stands on the issues at hand. Are view s are either an aggressive get ready for battle approach or a
conviction of Who will do our dirty work?. Buchholz feel s that the economy is not dependent on

He gives many solutions to what we should do and how we should do it. The public stands in
two directions. He mentions the people who support the amnesty for illegal aliens , and the
people who are against illegal aliens being in the United states. According to United States
Department of Labor, Washington, DC, The number of unemployed persons was 8.3 million in
January and the unemployment rate was 5.6%. This makes it hard for the already unemployed to
want more people to migrate to the US because then there would be more people with out jobs or
worse. They new immigrants would take any existing jobs that were open. But yet even with this
crucial evidence Buchholz picks a bit of an unusual approach in that he doesn t try to pick one side
of the audience to relate with, but yet he proposes an entirely different answer the issue. He
suggests that Rather than attracting millions of uneducated people , we should, pry open the legal
gates to recruit many more educated, skilled people, whether from Mexico, China or Ghana. This
requested action takes away from the low skill workers jobs, therefore a solution to the job scare is
answered. Another requested action is that the programs associated with Immigration give bonus
points for people with more education and intelligence. Buchholz merit to this action, is that he
feels the economy needs

Creatine Use Must be Banned Essay
Athletes are always searching for ways to enhance their performance. Recently, beginning in the
1950s, that search has included the use of illegal substances like steroids and growth hormones.
Illegal substances have been used widely by athletes in hop es of achieving the desired Olympic
gold medal or multi million dollar contract. Some nations, for example the late East Germany in the
1970s and 1980s, have mandated the use of steroids by their athletes. The downside of using those
illegal substancesis that because they are illegal, getting caught using them can lead to losing that
coveted gold medal, a lifetime ban from sports, and a total loss of honor and dignity. This is why
the search is now on to find some legal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The transformation of creatine into energy occurs within the first few seconds of exertion. Creatine
supplements are artificially made creatine that can be taken by athletes as ergogens, substances that
can be used by athletes to enhance performance. Artificially made creatine is available as powder,
capsules, candy, and gum. The goal of creatine supplementation is to increase the energy in the
muscles so that athletes can improve their strength, speed, and endurance.
Although creatine is fairly expensive (fifty dollars for a one month supply), the original results of
creatine testing and usage were very positive. Creatine supplementation helps the body by
increasing the amount of creatine in the muscles, thus enabli ng the body to put out more energy
more quickly. It was first discovered in the early 1900s, before creatine supplements were available,
that increasing dietary creatine in turn increases the amount of creatine in the muscles (Jenkins).
Supplementation of creatine in the diet leads to even higher levels of muscular creatine. Research
has confirmed this. Current data indicate that muscle creatine levels increase, on average, 20% after
six days of creatine supplementation at twenty grams per day (Eichne r 76). This increase of
creatine in the muscles in turn increases the body s potential for exertion. Once creatine
supplements were tested in humans, those increases were

Bill Miller Essay
1.How well has Value Trust performed as of the date of the case?
As of 2005, Value Trust had outperformed its benchmark index, the S P 500, for 14 years
consecutively. Given that the next longest period of sustained performance was only half as
long, 14 consecutive years of excellent performance set a record as the longest streak of success
for any manager in the mutual fund industry. The average annual total return for the past 15 years
was 14.6%, which was higher than the S P s 500 by 3.67%. Value Trust had 36 holdings, 10 of
which accounted for nearly 50% of the fund s assets. Morningstar gave Value Trust a five star rating.

Miller is an adherent of fundamental analysis, an approach to equity investing he had gleaned from
a number of sources. Miller s approach was research intensive and highly concentrated. Nearly
50% of Value Trust s assets were invested in just 10 large capitalization companies. While most of
Miller s investments were value stocks, he was not averse to taking large positions in the stocks of
growth companies. Overall, Miller s style was eclectic and difficult to distill.
Several key elements of Miller s contrarian strategy included: 1) buy low price, high intrinsic
value stocks; 2) take heart in pessimistic markets; 3) remember that the lowest average cost wins;
4) be wary of valuation illusions; 5) take the long view; 6) look for cyclical and secular
underpricing; 7) buy low expectation stocks; 8) take risks.
4.What is the efficient markets hypothesis? What does it imply about the role of portfolio managers?
The Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) states that it is impossible to beat the market because
stock market efficiency causes existing share prices to always incorporate and reflect all relevant
information.
According to the EMH, stocks always trade at their fair value on stock exchanges, making it
impossible for investors to either purchase undervalued stocks or sell stocks for inflated prices.
Thus, portfolio managers should find it impossible to outperform the overall

The plagues in England Essay
In England there were three specific plagues that i will be talking about, they are the bubonic
plague The Black Death , pulmonary plague and the pneumonic plague. These plagues were really
interesting to read about. They were so bad that many people died from them. The doctors didn t
know what was wrong with the people since there was that much new technology in the thirteenth
century. The black deathwas a deadly epidemic that was spread from Asia to Europe by twelve
trading ships that were at the port of Messina after a long expedition through the Black Sea in the
thirteen hundreds by October. People who congregated on the docks to greet the people saw that
most of the people on board were dead, and the people who were still... Show more content on

If plague is evolved within the flea and rat population it is called enzootic. As the plague
multiplies, it blocks the passage of blood to the flea s stomach then threatens starvation; the flea
disgorges blood that is infected with many bacilli into the bloodstream of its entertainer, causing
death. The black plague was not only caused by cargoes from the east, but by the seasonal
changes in rat and flea ecology. London had suffered epidemics in 1563, 1593, 1603, and 1625;
quantities of people died of the disease. At first the Bubonic plague was in the west rather than in
the east. Unfortunately the plague became immune to the people. The shift in population, with
changes in rat and fleas caused major deaths and diseases in humans. When the plague of 1665
disappeared they didn t need an explanation. The rats had acquired the immunity. During this
horrible time, the weaker people died while the stronger people developed great immunities. This
explained why the plague established itself far more strongly in London than in any other part of
the country. The black rat was later then replaced with the brown rat, since they lived underground
and the fleas wouldn t bite people like the black rats fleas would.
There are three types of plagues all occurring within humans. Bubonic plague consists in sixty to
eighty percent mortal. The first symptoms appear between thirty six

Police Privacy Concerns
1.3 Privacy Concerns
While police are utilizing body cameras, it is vital to ensure privacy and confidentiality for any
information or person videotaped. That is why it is necessary for police departments to have
detailed guidelines in place. Washington D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier recently cautioned that the
video footage will capture a broad range of information including police communications,
passwords and interiors of private residences that would need to be redacted before releasing video
(Vega, 2015, par. 7). This will take a good deal of time and resources as millions of hours of video
recordings will need to be stored and analyzed (Vega, 2015). Also, body cams worn by police could

American West Art
On Tuesday we took a trip to the Chrysler Museum to view the Branding the American West
exhibit. In this exhibit it had a wide selection of Art types which we had a guide take us around
to view them. While I was there I was surprised to see a more variety of art than I thought I
would see. I saw television art that was made by a Korean man, A glass hamburger with fries
and a Pepsi; this one was the most interesting to me because I had never seen art like that in my
life. Another cool thing is that most of the art here at the exhibit had descriptions by them to let
you know what the art means and who the artist were. However, their is one piece of art that I
liked the most and that one is the Pima Basket. in this work of art you see a Native American
woman making bowls and a fire where she makes the pot a solid so they are able to use it for their
needs. It also shows the respect that the White painter has toward the Native American culture.
What this work of art suggest about the American West as a place was that it was a diverse group
of people who lived there. Native Americans, Settlers and many others. This painting also shows
the amount of respect that the people on the west coast had for each other. As a brand the American
west represented a more unified part of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It represents the tone of the Romanticism period. The questions of this work of art that remain are
how is the relationship between the painter and the Native American Woman. Even though the
description about this work does say that it is positive, we will never know for sure . Questions
that this work of art raise for me about the time period of the American West are what more many
different art styles did people make during that time period. Their were a lot of painters, sculptors
and people who did pottery in the American West and sometimes people who had those different
talents would come together and make cool types of

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Taylor Swift s Song Blank Space
In musical superstar Taylor Swift s music video for her song Blank Space, she is portraying
herself as the high maintenance and dramatic girlfriend that the media believes she is. The
speaker of this text is the media s perception of Taylor Swift and her message is about the
disconnect between who Swift really is and who the media sees her as. I believe Swift has two
purposes for this music video. One is for her character in the music video to warn her audience
about the type of love that boys want, and the other for real life Taylor herself to poke holes into
the media s concept of her love life. The video is filled with satire and paradoxes to convince us
that our idea of Taylor Swift is not an accurate opinion of her. At the very beginning of the video,
we see a young man get out of a car in front of a massive mansion that appears to be Swift s home.

is just another object to be had by Swift and another mistake in a long series of mistakes and that
love for her is just a game, not something to be taken seriously. This is exactly the persona that
the media portrays Swift as. She has always been seen as someone who moves on from guy to
guy like the whole idea of love is just for fun without consideration of the other persons feelings.
This idea comes from her relationships with other celebrities and lyrics in her music that go
through many of her relationship troubles. Although this is who she appears to be in real life, she

Mass Customization:
One of the early adopters (Realisers) of the shift in the Manufacturing Setting from Mass
Production to Mass Customization was the apparel industries. There are several papers that support
this fact including the one by Michael T. Fralix, a professor from MC State University who points
out the shift in the expectations of the customers and how developed countries (especially the US)
is losing to the developing countries when it comes to producing customizable products in a large
scale. It is important to note the basic difference in the scenario of manufacturing between
developing and developed countries. Most of the developing countries, which were making

Climate Changes And Climate Change
From the observations presented in the paper it is clear that there is direct/indirect link between
extreme events and climate change and the similar observation was found by Seneviratne et al.,
2012) supporting that Climate change has resulted in changes in the occurrence of extreme events.
Moreover, Out of 24 extreme events analyzed in this paper, 12 showed direct or indirect links to
anthropogenic climate changeand some could not be explained. Once a change has been detected it
is important to attribute that change to some cause. Attribution, especially to human greenhouse
gas emissions, gives confidence to model projections of the future driven by anthropogenic forcing
as well as predictions of extremes at shorter time scales (Seneviratne and Zwiers, 2015). When an
extreme event occurs, the question of attribution of these events to human induced climatechange is
of particular interest. Two schools of thought have emerged in this rapidly developing field. Oxford
quantifies the change in probability of an extreme event of a particular observed magnitude caused
by the human alteration of the climate system whereas Boulder (NOAA s Earth System Research
Laboratory) examines the human induced change in magnitude of an extreme event. While
providing different types of information to stakeholders, both these probabilistic and mechanistic
schools of thought have been shown to be equivalent (Easterling et al 2016). But in some cases,
some scientists have concluded that a

Why Is King Arthur Alive
Is king Arthur dead or resting? The title of this book is King Arthur And His Knights Of The
Round Table written by Roger Lancelyn Green. King Arthur is alive because once King Arthur
died and fell asleep a shepherd came and rung a bell and woke him up and fell back asleep.
Another reason why King Arthur is still Alive is because he promised that he will come back to
make britain great again. Also He said that he shall come back from a long rest. That is why King
Arthuris still alive.
King Arthur is alive because He said ... And then the King said: you say well; I will sleep once
more... (p.329 330). This demonstrates that King Arthur is not dead because once he died and
was sent in a cave to sleep. Then a Shepherd was sent by Merlin to take gold from the King.
When the shepherd arrived he hit a bell and woke the King. A long conversation between the king
and the shepherd went on for a long time and finally the King went back to sleep. King Arthur is
alive because when the shepherd woke the King and the shepherd answered saying ...Trembling in
terror, cried, he hardly knew why: No,no!therefore sleep on! (p.329). This demonstrate that King
Arthur Was not dead because dead people would not wake up from a loud bell that was rung....

as at work or school. It may seem counter intuitive to say, but expending energy can help us gain
more energy. It can help your cardiovascular system work more effectively by delivering oxygen
and nutrients to your tissues. More than 90% of studies indicate that exercise increases energy
for nearly every group, ranging from sedentary to healthy adults to cancer patients. Exercise can
also make us sleep more efficiently by being able to fall asleep faster and reach an even deeper

Essay on Man Child and the Promised Land
The Will to Survive
In the book, Manchild in the Promised Land, Claude Brown makes an incredible transformation
from a drug dealing ringleader in one of the most impoverished places in America during the
1940 s and 1950 s to become a successful, educated young man entering law school. This
transformation made him one of the very few in his family and in Harlem to get out of the street
life. It is difficult to pin point the change in Claude Brown s life that separated him from the
others. No single event changed Brown s life and made him choose a new path. It was a

people and their actions. It is difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brown s family accepted poverty and that made it nearly impossible to escape poverty. You doom
yourself by accepting poverty because you lose hope. Brown s early life of crime was to get some
money so he did not feel poor. To show the neighborhood that hope was not lost in him.
Brown had to always be in control. He never did anything to lose his control or be dominated by
a substance or another person. He demonstrated his lack of respect in the earliest parts of his
childhood when he would steal from cash registers without a friend to help him, a skill though to
be impossible. At times Brown did give up his control and he regretted it. Such as the time
Brown used heroin. This desire to be a dominant figure is the biggest factor in Brown s life
because it kept him away from the plagues that brought many of his friends down and was
corrupting Harlem. He called heroin the great plague because it totally destroyed a human and
made them totally dependent on it. Brown was able to escape all the plagues of his environment
and he was intelligent enough to realize he could escape his environment too.
The biggest problem Brown faced in Harlem was crime. This was Brown s first problem as well
as many of his friends. The book opens with Brown shot after attempting to steal sheets. Brown
was lucky or perhaps smart enough no to get charged with a felony. He saw what he called a sheet

  • 2. The Life Of A Slave Girl By Harriot Jacob I never really paid attention to slavery as I did right now. I heard, of course, of all the basic details of it like everyone else and hated the idea of it, but after reading this story, it really hit me on what slaves went through back in the day. In the novel Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl , Harriot Jacob chronically writes about her personal struggles and sufferings and that of her families throughout the better portion of her life from childhood to adulthood. Throughout this revealing story, this brave and courageous woman opens my eyes on the extent of the extreme hardships, unfairness, and cruelty that many slaves have faced and lived through every day and every hour with just the hope and faith in God to get them... The women however, work all day and are called upon the master and mistress s every request even during the night, away from their own families. Most mistresses have women as their child s nurses through the early periods of birth so that the mistress is not bothered in her sleep by the baby. These women were to be found sleeping on the floor at the entry of their owners bedroom, ready to be awakened if the child woke up. One person that I recalled reading that had this unfortunate position was Jacob s aunt. While in the pregnancy of her own kids, she was required to resume her place on the entry floor, because Mrs. Flint s babe needed her attentions. (Jacobs, pg. 217). It shows to show that female slaves own needs was not even thought of at all and was shown no respect. They were treated like animals without even a proper bed to sleep on while their owners slept peacefully away, undisturbed. Every day throughout the country, slaves live through the fear that their loves one will be ripped apart from them, sold off to other states and never to be seen again. And in most cases, this happens. That is one of the most difficult hardship many African slaves face because since they are just property with no rights, they have no say in this and can t stop it. • 4. The Four Types Of Authority In The Hunger Games The Hunger Games is a fictional story set in totalitarian nation Panem. It follows Katniss Everdeen as she takes the place of her younger sister in the Hunger Games Tournaments. The tournament consists of 24 contestants who are forced into a cosmic arena to fight until only one survives. The Hunger Games exhibits four authority types; charismatic, legal rational. Traditional authority is legitimate power based on customs and beliefs passed down from generation to generation. The church, family, grandparents, parents, the Pope and the monarchy are examples of people that might have the most impact in conveying what is right or wrong in a persons life. Most individuals tend to follow their primary agents or leaders when it comes to what type of practices they put the most faith in rather the leaders personal appeal. • 5. Chivalry Compared To Today Chivalry was designated for knights as a moral code or law for them to abide by, but sadly has been slowly being brushed under the rug by their following generations. Growing up I was taught certain aspects of a new hybrid of the Code of Chivalry such as courtesy, honor, humbleness, respect, and proper manners. Chivalrysince medieval times has slowly dissipated into almost nothing compared to today. Now I am not suggesting that these traits have been lost indefinitely but they have certainly minimized. Parents are not teaching their children to be polite or use proper manners. Those traits are something I would like to thank my father for instilling in myself. I hold courtesy, honor, humbleness, respect, and proper manners highly because many people respect that. So how exactly did these values change me? These imperative values changed and... • 6. Thinkers of the Enlightenment Essay Enlightenment The Enlightenment era was a new intellectual movement that stressed reason and thought and the power of individuals to solve problems. Even though different philosophers approached their goal differently, they achieved it none the less. They all approached their goal differently due to their different upbringings, their different backgrounds, and most importantly their different environments. A few among the many enlightened thinkers were Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Baron Do Montesquieu, and Jean Jacques Rousseau. While some of their idea s are not used in modern society, they were all instrumental to the modern society we live in today. More then anyone else Baron do Montesquieu helped shape this country today. Baron ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without him we might have strayed to an absolute dictatorship the likes of which was suggested by Thomas Hobbes. Enlightenment thinkers challenged authority by speaking their mind to say the very least. They spoke their mind, instigated riots, and told people to change their own government. The fact that they preached their mind alone without regard of consequence is enough evidence that they challenged authority. Although many individuals were persecuted and intimidated into keeping quiet, they were not scarred by their respective governments and it is for that reason that we enjoy the fruits of their labor. Had they not endeavored so, and had they trembled in the face of adversity, we might be living in a country without any centralized government at all. Despite the fact that there were countless enlightenment thinkers, there are still many identifiable similarities between various of them. For example Thomas Hobbes and Jean Jacques Rousseau both believed in the need for a social contract, and in individualism. They both disagreed on how to go about these things. Thomas Hobbes described an absolute monarchy with limited rights. Jean Jacques Rousseau on the other hand described an democracy with unalienable rights. These two thinkers are a perfect example who thought of different ideals, practiced them in different ways, but nonetheless helped shape the world we live in today. Many people ... Then, you begin to think if NASA will hire you after you applied 20 years ago. B.Speaker Credibility: When I took an astronomy course at USC, my class was getting into life on Mars. At the moment of my semester, NASA discovered water on Mars. This was a discovery that caught my attention therefore, decided to speak about it. C.Thematic Statement: Today I will speak and explain if it is possible for Mars to contain life. D.Preview Statement: The possibility of life on mars is an extravagant topic to look at. Before that, we must analyze Mars itself along with its conditions. First, we will talk about the ice caps located on Mars. Second, we will examine the water streaks on Mars. Third we will observe if the red planet is inhabitable for humans to conquer it. II.Body A.Main Point 1: Us humans have overpopulated the earth and will continue to grow if actions aren t took. We had a population approximate to 7.4 billion people living on earth in 2016. It takes about 40 years to increase the population by 3 billion. Earth can only hold 10 billion people max. Therefore, we will overpopulate the earth around 2040. We need to conquer another planet however, not all planets have the basic elements to sustain life. B.Main Point 1: One of our discoveries were the polar ice caps on Mars. 1.Supporting Material: Jpl.nasa.gov. released an article titled Mars Ice Deposit Holds as Much Water as Lake Superior on November 22, 2016 stating that, Frozen beneath a region of cracked and pitted plains on Mars lies about as much water as what s in Lake Superior, (largest of the Great Lakes}. 2.Speaker s idea: Lake Superior has enough water to cover North America or South America. This means that the ice on Mars can cover a huge wide span when it is melted. In addition, when the ice on mars melts it can help create an atmosphere for Mars. 1.Supporting Material: The article published on space.com titled Red Planet Heats Up: Ice Age Ending on Mars written on May 26, 2016 states, Mars can tilt more than Earth, causing the Red Planet s poles ... Finally, do not forget the importance of preparing your clients. Though this may be your hundredth mediation, it is probably their first. Business Divorces and Limited Liability Company Lawsuits in Florida Limited liability company lawsuits in Florida can be a complicated process. Prior to signing a representation agreement with a client in a limited liability company lawsuit in Florida, you must make sure that certain issues have been handled properly. First, you must make sure that the individual hiring you has the authority to do so. This usually requires a close study of the limited liability company s operating agreement. In fact, a wise practice is to have your scheduling staff ask these individuals to bring copies of their operating agreements to their first consultation with you. This will save time and allow the representation to quickly proceed. After you have determined the issues in the business divorce (also called dissolution, since the split involves a limited liability company) you should advise your clients about the advantages of mediation. ... • 10. Eye Fatigue David Warlick once said, We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world. But is that true? Technology is not only costly, but it also hinders the student s health and grades. With the use of technology, students are no longer learning cursive which is an essential part of their learning. The health of the student is very important, especially if they want to do well in their studies; however, it is difficult when they are staring at a tablet or computer, in school, for more than a couple of hours. Furthermore, computers and tablets can not meet all the students needs, since all students do not learn the same way, if they learn better hands on or orally. Technology can also take away valuable time learning from the teacher. So, why do we want to bring technology into the classrooms if it is expensive, harms the students health mentally and physically, it s not helping them, and students stop learning proper handwriting? However, this can be stopped! Parents, who are in charge of their students, should gain more knowledge about this and challenge the school board. Parents should also tell others, start a petition against technology in classrooms and they should not only want safety for their children but also for every else s kids. Their children are going to be the next generation of obesity, health problems and learning challenges if the schools are allowing more and more technology in the classrooms, which parents should be concerned ... The Role of Spices on the Expansion of Europe Essay Within the development of Europe, one would think that religion and politics played the key roles in shaping the regions, in which they did, but many individuals don t realize the true impact of the role spices played in the evolution of the economy and expansion of Europe. Food alone represented a vast field of human experience and shaped peoples beliefs and values, aesthetics and most importantly their social attitudes toward one another. Spices contributed to these attitudes, providing a potential window for the individual to change their understanding of the political and social life of certain cultures and nations. The high prices were initiated by the merchants themselves, preventing common folk from buying certain spices as nonchalantly as the upper class achieved. This was not due to the difficulty of obtaining the certain spices but based on the occurrence that certain merchants were infatuated with profit. Obtaining the spices wasn t as difficult as one would think even after the collapse of Roman power, since spices continued to find their way from Asia to Europe. Although many merchants priced certain spices based on their rarity. Which was classified in three categories: intrinsic, circumstantial, and artificial. Intrinsic rarity would entail that nature doesn t produce many of them, growing in certain places under special conditions or climates. Circumstantial rarity, as Freedman explains is, nature rather than human intervention limits the supply, either by climate, soil, or other obstacles . The last of the three was artificial rarity is caused by deliberate human action in order to limit the supply and drive up prices. The Effect of Different Substrate Concentrations on the Rate of Reaction My aim is to investigate what happens when concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide is changed and how it affects the rate of reaction when it is broken down by the enzyme catalase (H2O2 Г 2H2O + O2) Scientific knowledge. Enzymes are biological catalysts, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions take place without the enzyme being altered in the process. Enzymes bind temporarily to one or more of the substrate molecules of the reaction they catalyse. Enzymes work by lowering the activation energy required for a reaction to proceed. In order to do so, and enzyme molecule must unite even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each catalase molecule works best at a certain pH and temperature. The values for pH, and temperature, which give an enzymes greatest rate of reaction, are known as the optimum values. The activity of enzymes decreases away from these values. This is due to the importance of the tertiary structure in its function. As the temperature of the solution containing the hydrogen peroxide and catalase molecules increases so does the rate of reaction. This occurs because as the temperature increases the kinetic energy of the molecules also increases. As the molecules are moving around faster there are more collisions which lead to reactions between catalase molecules, and hydrogen peroxide molecules. This effect continues up to the optimum temperature. Above the optimum temperature, the rate of reaction decreases, as the increasing kinetic energy causes the hydrogen bonds, holding the structure of the enzyme together, to break. This causes the active site to change shape. This is known as denaturation. The hydrogen peroxide substrate molecule can therefore no longer fit the active site, and the rate of reaction decreases until all the catalase molecules are denatured, and the rate of reaction is zero. The pH affects the ionic charges, on some of the R groups present in the amino acids, making up the catalase molecule. Therefore as a result of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The War On Drugs And Its Effects On Society The War on Drugs is a deep rooted controversial campaign of prohibition and military aid that has been disputed for many years. There are constant debates as to whether there will ever be a viable solution to the problem. However, as we continue to pursue the war on drugs, it has become increasingly evident that winning the war seems to be an impossible task. Drugprohibitionand the undertaking of the war on drugs have stirred much controversy over its moral and logical implications. While there are many drugs that exist that are unhealthy when abused, it has become apparent that the drug policies in the United States, as well as many parts of the world, are inconsistent and oppressive. Ironically, drug laws were initially created for the good of society, but it has become increasingly clear that drug laws and our undertaking of the drug war have only served to cause problems. The current war on drugs has led to devastating effects on society both economically and socially. Violence and corruption have subjugated throughout the United States, Mexico and many other parts of the world. Additionally, drug prohibition efforts have had very little impact on the supply of illegal drugs and have had little to no success in reducing the demand for illegal drugs. The war on drugs, which is fueled by corruption and propaganda, needs to come to an end for the betterment of society. Drug prohibition has not always been accepted in society as it is today. An Introductory Course Into Animal Assisted Therapy Essay Through this introductory course into Animal Assisted Therapy, I have learned about the Human Animal Bond, the history of AAT and AAA, the five freedoms, the differences between AAT and AAA, and the various populations in which this therapy responds greatly to. This paper gives a detailed and comprehensive overview of what I have learned from this course and my own perception of how I will incorporate things learned from this course into my everyday life and into my future career in AAT. The HAB, or the Human Animal Bond, is the relationship between human beings and animals. The American Veterinary Medical Associations committee on the Human Animal Bond describes HAB as, a mutually beneficial and dynamic relationship between people and other animals that is influenced by behaviors that are essential to the health and well being of both (Fine, 2015). There are many factors that play into creating a heathy relationship for both the animal and the human. Relationships between animals and humans have to be voluntary, persistent, reciprocal, and built upon trust (Fine, 2015). Humans need to increase their understanding and care for the animal while the animal increases their trust level for the human (Fine, 2015). Three theories that aim to tell us why the HAB exists are social support, the foundation for mental health and healthy functioning, theories of attachment, which explains the human needs of protection (both needing protection and protecting others), and the biophilia ... The poets of this time often compared love to high, unrealistic, and unattainable beauty. Shakespeare, in his sonnet 18, continues the tradition of his time by comparing the speakers love /mistress to the summer time of the year. It is during this time of the year that the flowers and the nature that surround them are at there peak for beauty. The theme of the poem is to show the speakers true interpretation of beauty. Shakespeare uses two powerful metaphors in line five and in line six to compare the summer s imperfections to the perfection of the beloved. In line five he uses a metaphor Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines to describe that in the summer the sun gets to hot and this is yet another imperfection of a summer day which the beloved is superior to. Although some may compare there beloveds eyes with the glow or beauty of the eye of heaven here the speaker has chosen to claim the opposite saying that the sun is inferior to his beloved in that her eyes are more beautiful. In line six of the poem the idea of the sun being imperfect is further enhanced by phrase gold complexion dimmed this is implying that the sun is imperfect in that it is not always hot enough. Here the speaker implies that the beloved is flawless in that her complexion is never changed, remaining gold like. Nature that surrounds us is beautiful, the trees, ocean, and the wild life, and although the speaker makes a point to disfigure the view of nature the intention of the poet is to reinforce the beauty of the beloved. In line nine thy eternal summer shall not fade is an allusion to the beloved staying young and beautiful for eternity. This line is referring to the season changing from summer to winter, this means that the beauty is temporary and fades over a short period of time. The beloved on the other hand is ... • 27. Descartes s Theory Of Knowledge Essay Descartes begins his Meditation observing that there have been many occasions in the past when he had thought he was acquiring important knowledge yet subsequently discovering to have been mistaken. Therefore he aims to find a method that will render the research absolutely immune from the very possibility of error. The method of doubt is not only an epistemological method, but successfully fulfills the purpose of Descartes by helping to achieve important metaphysical results. One fundamental reason Descartes gives his readers to doubt everyday beliefs about the world, is to build up a system of reliable knowledge. To do so it is necessary that he gets rid of all the unreliable beliefs he might have had. He notices that most of us tend to manage life though ad hoc revisionism, which he finds inadequate. His most powerful reason becomes clear when Descartes presents our collective beliefs in the image of an imaginative house, which unlike most houses, is entirely ad hoc. This house is the metaphor for the course of human life: with no blueprint or architectural drawing. No three years old makes any sort of long term plan. Would we really want our position in the world to be determined by a three years old? The meditations offer a chance to start over by demolition of our old dwelling. By illustrating what is weakest in the science (the lack of a guiding principle e.g. blueprint), Descartes wished to offer the basis for the new science. Scientia (knowledge) extends to ... The tinker s object is broken and remade, the town is taken, the love affair is irresistibly consummated, even as the paradox of virtue and passion is glowingly resolved. So the strategy of the poem appears to be that of approaching a dangerous, blasphemous anthropomorphism in the heat of devotion, but deflecting that danger, just in time, by the equation of sensual passion to spiritual virtue; for the concluding couplet declares that true freedom comes when one is imprisoned by God, and that purity of heart comes with God s ravishment (sexual assault, with the double meaning of ravish as to win the heart of someone). By the poem s conclusion, the conceit of the rape which ensures chastity no longer skirts blasphemy. In fact, in Donne s hands, it even becomes orthodox, an ideal of devotion worthy of emulation. A biblical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is in second chapter of Acts where the disciples were sitting together in the upper room and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Speaking in tongues is one of the things that happens when the Holy Spirit has baptizes us; it shows the presence of God is with the person. The majority of college students are using their smartphones for social media. Though social media may help people staying connected, it is also a distraction. According to Thompson, Today s tools make it easier for us to find connections between ideas, pictures, people, bits of news that were previously invisible (p.349). Thompson s view of social media is that they help people stay connected with friends, family members, and other people who share the same ideas. However, drawn to social media, undisciplined college students are like a moth to a flame. Whether or not they are consciously aware of it, social media are making them distracted from studying. Even a professional writer like Thompson is not an exception. As a matter of fact, Thompson says he was idly checking Twitter links when he was distracted from his writing (p. 351). Equally, I sometimes get distracted while doing my assignments and send links to inane materials to a friend. At Urbana High School we currently have four lunch shifts, during which students pack or buy lunches. I believe Frederick County Public Schools should start an open campus lunchprogram for seniors because the schoollunches are not healthy enough or appealing and do not have enough lunch options. The benefits that could come from this program go beyond the happiness of the seniors, they will reach the classrooms, staff members, and community. The lunches served in Frederick County Schools, and Urbana High School in particular lack nutritional value and are unappetizing. When interviewing Casey Ballow (a student who buys lunch everyday) about whether the school lunches are nutrional she said The majority of students walk out [of the lunch line] without the most nutritional part of their lunch . FCPS has made snacks whole grain, which usually makes them less tasty. Packing a lunch is a hassle because it is both time consuming and expensive, not to mention you cannot bring any warm foods. Managing modifications in a business can be difficult and countless people within an organization can be resistant for various reasons. Participation is considered an effective technique for reducing resistance to change, other techniques includes education and communication, facilitation and support, and negotiation. Change in a business can be uncomfortable since it requires surrendering a certain way of thinking and performing processes and implementing a novel way to accomplish a business goal. Encouraging employees to participate in the alteration can be one of the utmost ways to reduce the resistance to change. An employee who participates in the process of the conversion is further likely to embrace the change. Therefore, one way is to encompass groups that will be affected by innovative procedures in the development of fresh ideas. In other words, ask workers for their opinions and suggestions and integrate their solutions. If people are given the opportunity to seize responsibility for specific parts of a program their sense of ownership will craft stronger advocates. Some nations, for example the late East Germany in the 1970s and 1980s, have mandated the use of steroids by their athletes. The goal of creatine supplementation is to increase the energy in the muscles so that athletes can improve their strength, speed, and endurance. Although creatine is fairly expensive (fifty dollars for a one month supply), the original results of creatine testing and usage were very positive. Creatine supplementation helps the body by increasing the amount of creatine in the muscles, thus enabli ng the body to put out more energy more quickly. It was first discovered in the early 1900s, before creatine supplements were available, that increasing dietary creatine in turn increases the amount of creatine in the muscles (Jenkins). Supplementation of creatine in the diet leads to even higher levels of muscular creatine. Research has confirmed this. Current data indicate that muscle creatine levels increase, on average, 20% after six days of creatine supplementation at twenty grams per day (Eichne r 76). When the plague of 1665 disappeared they didn t need an explanation. The rats had acquired the immunity. During this horrible time, the weaker people died while the stronger people developed great immunities. This explained why the plague established itself far more strongly in London than in any other part of the country. Moreover, Out of 24 extreme events analyzed in this paper, 12 showed direct or indirect links to anthropogenic climate changeand some could not be explained. Once a change has been detected it is important to attribute that change to some cause. Attribution, especially to human greenhouse gas emissions, gives confidence to model projections of the future driven by anthropogenic forcing as well as predictions of extremes at shorter time scales (Seneviratne and Zwiers, 2015). When an extreme event occurs, the question of attribution of these events to human induced climatechange is of particular interest. Two schools of thought have emerged in this rapidly developing field. Oxford quantifies the change in probability of an extreme event of a particular observed magnitude caused by the human alteration of the climate system whereas Boulder (NOAA s Earth System Research Laboratory) examines the human induced change in magnitude of an extreme event.
