2. We use a storyboard to help
organize and curate content.
The storyboard begins with three
main topics:
(1) Big Picture illustrates the journey,
highlighting where we are now
and where we are going
(2) Skills / Resources is a
conversation about what we
have today, and what are able to
build or create.
(3) Market is the examination of the
timing, opportunity, and impact.
Composing the Message

3. Slide 1 illustrates where we are
today. Specifically, it highlights a
problem that exists today, and the
negative emotions that the
audience may be experiencing.
President Kennedy highlighted that
the United States was failing in
their world leadership, having
fallen behind in the Space Race.
Where are we now?

4. Where are we going?
Slide 2 illustrates where we are
going. This is a snapshot of the
future, a picture that will connect
with the hearts and minds in your
audience.
President Kennedy envisioned an
American astronaut planting the
U.S. Flag on the surface of the
moon.

5. What resources do we have?
Slide 3 illustrates the resources that
you have to execute your idea.
They can include world class
talent, intellectual property,
funding, and partnerships.
President Kennedy highlighted the
incredible amount of scientific
manpower, and funding for
salaries, plants, laboratories and
infrastructure.

6. What can we do?
Slide 4 illustrates a range of
possible outcomes when these
resources are fully deployed.
President Kennedy list of outcomes
included: “our leadership in
science and industry, our hopes for
peace and security” and becoming
“the world’s leading space-faring
nation”

7. Why Now?
Slide 5 highlights the importance of
the present moment. Ideas are
always live in the future unless we
attach some measure of urgency
and importance.
President Kennedy stated “The
vows of this Nation can only be
fulfilled if we in this nation are first,
and, therefore, we intend to be
first.”

8. What Impact will we have?
Slide 6 illustrates the impact of
your idea, both immediate and
long term.
President Kennedy shared that “the
ripples in society would extend far
and wide.” He believed that the
achievements by NASA would
create long-term benefits for
industry, medicine, and education.

9. The Heroic Invitation
Slide 7 is an invitation for the
audience to participate:
Three specific invitations are:
(1) Money = Revenue, Grants,
Donations
(2) Support = Partnerships,
Sponsorships, World-Class talent
(3) Reputation = Word of mouth,
articles, news coverage
President Kennedy helped to
generate over $1.2B in funding, to
assemble a team of world-class
scientists, and create the
reputation of world leaders in
science and industry.

10. The Final Presentation
This 7 slide framework takes the
audience on a journey into your
vision for the future.
