How is the population on Earth protected from each radiation type? And explaine it.
Solution
The population are protected by the earth from harmful radiations of the sum.
Cosmic rays: are high energy particles thrown at the speed of light. They bLast right through our
body damaging the DNA. Such harmful rays are collided by oxygen and nitrogen particles in the
atmosphere thus protecting us.
Gamma&x rays: They are potentiak enough to damage our cells but the molecules in the atm.
Absorb them and give protection.
Uv radiation: sun always throws uv rafiation onto earth and earth inturn has a blanket called
ozone layer to get protected from it.
Sun flares: also kept away by the atmosphere.
Vacuum: the temp. Of vacuum is too cold but our earth is protected by green house gases to
maintain warmth.
It is believed that the earths magnetic field also keeps awsy harmful radiations from sun and
diverts them to anothet path.
Layers of Atmosphere:
There are 5 layers approx. 60 km thick.
Troposphere: First layer near surface of earth. It provides majoriy of oxygen and protect from
drought.

Mesosphere: meteors shrink up here.
Ionosphere: radiowaves bounce off it. Imp for communication as satellites orbit here.
Exosphere: outer layer which protects from solar wind.
