Objective of Lesson
1. To look at common views of God.
2. To show the error in a flawed view of God.
3. To show biblically how we should view God.
Common views of GOD
• He exists, but He is far from us, because if he were
near there would be no pain and suffering!
• He exists to serve me and my interest!
• Diana or Artemis (Acts 19:23-28)
• Bacchus or Dionysus (Ephesians 5:6-19)
• God is like my spouse, there to wait on “my”
every beck and call. (Luke 17:7f)
Common views of GOD
• Like the Egyptian Pharaoh during the time of the
exodus!
• But Pharaoh said, “Who is the LORD that I should
obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the
LORD, and besides, I will not let Israel go.” (Exodus
5:2)
Viewing God incorrectly
• When we view God incorrectly we will give honor
and glory where honor and glory are not due!
• Romans 1:23-32 …turn with me please…
• They made other things that God created their
GOD!
• They did not view God as Holy!
A correct view of GOD
• Genesis 1:1- In the beginning GOD created the
heavens and the earth.
• Romans 11:16-22 …turn with me please …
• Titus 2:11-14 …turn with me please…
A correct view of GOD
• A correct view of God understands the cross of
Christ Jesus!
• A correct view of God understands how damning
sin is!
• A correct view of God compels obedience and a
hatred towards sin!
How do you view GOD?
1. Do you view God as holy?
2. Do you view God as Almighty
3. Do you view God as One who keeps His Word?
(Isaiah 55:11)
4. Do you view God as loving, caring, merciful, and
gracious?
5. Do you view God as on that tolerates disobedience,
rebellion, a hardened heart?
How do you view GOD?
• How you view God shapes how you view sin!
• How you view sin shapes how you live your life!
• How you live this life determines where you will
spend eternity!
