For research and planning, the group watched music videos on YouTube from similar genres to get inspiration for their own music video. They filmed a preliminary video to practice lip syncing and using video editing software. During production, they used their phones to take pictures, record vlogs, and upload notes. They created social media accounts to engage fans and promote their work. Final Cut Express was used for advanced video editing like split screens due to its superior features over iMovie. A variety of software was used to design additional marketing materials.

1. How did you use media technologies in
the construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
For the research and planning stage we
watched videos on Youtube from our genre,
such as, Lil Wayne – How To Love, Eminem
– Mockingbird and Ludacris ft. Mary J Blige
– Runaway Love in order to give us an idea
of what we wanted to include in our music
videos and to also use as an inspiration.

2. By watching these videos it helped us
realize the good and bad points for each
individual video.
We also filmed a prelim to help us with
some ideas, such as lip syncing as this was
new to us and to also get some practice
using new software i.e. Final Cut Express.
We also used blogger to record vlogs, upload
notes/videos and other useful information that would
help us with our music video. We downloaded both
apps on our phone just in case we saw something out
of school we could easily upload it on our phones. We
also used our phones to take pictures while filming.
We also uploaded other apps like Pic Sticth and Photo

3. Collage as they were helpful for editing pictures. We
made a twitter account in order to engage with our
fans to get feedback and any other useful musically
linked information. Also to help promote. We also
emailed our record company informing them that we
were going to use their song and asking for their
permission.

5. We also made a treatment to present to our class
letting them know what our idea was for our video
and to get audience feedback from our peers. In our
treatment we discussed locations, clothing, concept
and ideas.

6. We decided to use locations such as Brick lane and
Camden because of our Hip-hop/R&B/electric pop
genre and the unique, different types of culture you
find in those areas. We also choose to base our style
in terms of clothing on celebrities like Misha B and
Little Mix due to their retro/vintage style. Also their
look inspired the way we wanted our artist to look.
We also used our tripod, Flip, HD Panasonic camera in
order to record our music video and outtakes.
We used the HD Panasonic camera more because of
the quality, longer battery life and it allowed us to
take pictures, which were some of the qualities the
flip didn’t have. We also used iMovie and Final Cut
Express to help us with our editing.

7. We decided to use Final Cut Express as it was more
advanced than iMovie, but also because it allowed us
to do some things, for example, layering two clips and
creating more than two split screens. Final Cut
Express was essential for our split screens because
we decided to have three split screens.

We used several different software’ for our digipak
and magazine advert including paint, photoshop,
word and powerpoint.
All these media technologies were very helpful as it
allowed us to construct our musicvideo,digipak and
magazine advert to the level we wanted.
