• The MKSGAY was launched in 2008 by UP’s ex-chief minister
Mayawati.
• This scheme provides for free housing facilities for urban poor,
constructed and allotted 1lakh houses in 72 districts benefiting
about 1 lakh families.
• The BSP’s cancelled programmed, MKSGAY, constructed 1,42,000
houses-enough for less than 3% of UP’s slum population-before it
was stopped in 2012 and replaced by Aasra a year later by SP
government,
1. Manyawar Kashiram Ji Shahari Gareeb Awaas Yojana
(MKSGAY )
• The BSP government reduced by more than half its initial
target of building about 100,000 homes each year after the
first phase-because of a supposed shortage of beneficiaries
in a state where about 6 million people live in urban slums.
• The BSP reserved 50% of these houses for scheduled castes
and scheduled tribes.
• This is a time bound scheme, which was announced by the
state government on January 15, 2009, the 53rd birth
anniversary of Chief Minister Mayawati.
• The scheme aimed at giving land rights to slum dwellers in
urban areas.
• Land rights were to be given to slum dwellers of below
poverty line category on a normal price for a lease of 90
years.
• The state had identified 305 urban slums in 30 districts.
• A total of 7,072 people in these slums were found eligible
for the scheme.
2. Sarvjan Hitay Gharib Awas (Slum Area) Maliqana
Haq Yojna
• Aasra housing scheme was launched by the state
government in 2013 by ex-chief minister Akhlesh Yadav.
• In this scheme the preference was given to the minorities,
by constructing the first colony in urban Development
Minister Azam khan’s home district Rampur.
• The scheme was executed by the State Urban Development
Agency under the Department of Urban Employment and
Poverty Alleviation, which was held by Khan.
• The samajwadi party government has scrapped the pervious
Myawati government housing scheme for the urban poor,
known as MKSGAY, in which 50% houses were given to SC
and ST.
3. AASRA YOJNA
• In its place, Aasra scheme was launched with a provision of
Rs.100crore in the regular budget.
• The colony have street lights, solid waste management, and
interlocking internal pathways.
• SP government was announced Samajwadi Awas Yojana in 2014 to
provide the affordable houses to middle income group and lower
income group.
• And on 2nd May 2015, CM Akhilesh Yadav launched this scheme
with the target to construct three lakh houses in urban areas.
• Under Samajwadi Awas Yojna, the cost of housing units up to the
size of 75sq.m was decided in the range of Rs.15lakh to Rs.30lakh.
4. Samajwadi Awas Yojna
• The SP government claimed the construction of 3lakh houses under
the scheme, but the sources informed that the government has not
completed the 10% of total work.
• The source informed that the government will not continue the
Samajwadi Awas Yojana in UP.
• Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna, the government will provide
