Brief description:  Closed off area, which is small which can give the sense of seclusion for the audience,
What do you see? claustrophobia can be sprung into mind making the audience seem a little more scared
about the film.
 Gates which look like prison cell gates which also can involve the audience as they may
not want to go in prison. It also gains the control of seclusion as there seems to be
nowhere to go.
 Blood splodge on the floor, spread across signifying it’s not a nice place to be.
 Flickering licks on the ceiling gives of the horror look as if the lights are flickering then it
suggests they can go off at any minute leaving it all pitch black.
 Door slamming shut and opening to reveal different characters showing each individual
to give the audience a sense of what kind of people to expect during the film.
 Subtitles shaking with bloody splatter effects behind subtitles of blood drops re-
enforces the genre that the film will be.
 Electric sparks coming off the walls off the wires showing that the place where we see
in the main menu, isn’t a very nice place to be and isn’t somewhere where people
would want to be.
Techniques used:  Movement is used by the camera and objects within the menu giving it the edgy feeling
Animation, Visual Effects, Colour Rendering, making the audience be on the edge of their seat as they watch the film.
Graphics, Movement  Visual Effects – it looks old, scary, abandoned like, claustrophobic, darkish room with a
dim/flickering light effects, horrifying effect using mysterious characters

comparable MPEG-2 Codecs
It is easy to integrate and covers wide range of picture format. Hence used in large
application segment.

H.264 requires longer encoding time
It is certainly not constricted and low-bandwidth friendly
More Hardware overhead is also one of the limiting factor

Screen ratio 16:9 – This has been chosen because is it usually the screen ratio for most DVD’s.
However if it was being viewed on a computer as such, the screen would then be a ratio 4:3.
Frame Rate – From the research, this is what I found about frame rate :
To record moving pictures, DVD-Video uses either MPEG-2 compression at up to
9.8 Mbit/s (9,800 kbit/s) or MPEG-1 compression at up to 1.856 Mbit/s (1,856 kbit/s).

Video with 4:3 frame aspect ratio is supported in all video
modes. Widescreen video is supported only in full D1 resolutions.

Resolution – From looking at the research I have done, I cannot be exactly certain, as the
resolution was 720 x 480 on nearly every page I looked. The image itself didn’t seem to be in
HD.
Video Format – From the research, the DVD-Video is a consumer video format which is used to
store digital video on a disc. The video format is encoded in MPEG-2 format.
Looking into the video format more, MPEG-2 is the main video format for DVD-Video,
however, MPEG-4 seems to be the best fit in terms of the generation today.
