What is a Hospital Information System?
 It is an information system where data and information is handled in a hospital environment.
 It is basically designed to manage patients and the information related to them.
 The health status of the patients shall be gathered and predicted.

Problems encountered
 Paper-based systems generally cause disadvantages and problems to hospital when handling data and
information.
 Safe recording the patient details cannot be guaranteed as they can be potentially destroyed by fire and
water.
 There are possible chances of misplacing data and information by the staffs.

Purpose
 The main objective for designing this system is to manage patient data and information in centralized
way.
 This system shall replace the traditional methods of entering and storing data and information using
paper.
 To provide a better health service to patients with tremendous accuracy.

Functions
 Make appointments with respective doctors.
 Manage staff and patient reservations.
 Conduct payments and other transactions online.
 Perform live conversations with doctors regarding about health tips.
 Manage staff and customer accounts within the information system.
 Upload and watch demo videos on the sicknesses and relevant cure.

How it works?
 The hospital information system shall function as an online system spanning across the relevant hospital
network through the intranet.
 In this system, database servers are used to store information on the medicines that are required to cure
the relevant sicknesses.
 Appointments to the respective doctors shall be made online.
 It shall also be used to manage patient and payment records.
 Since this information system consumes the facilities of the World Wide Web, it can be constantly
updated for any necessary changes.

System Requirements (contd.)
 Appointments for consulting a doctor.
 IT facilities for physical scanning such as ECG, and X-Ray.
 Hardware Requirements
◦ Computer Systems
◦ Wi-Fi Router
◦ Switch
◦ Ethernet Cables
◦ A Physical System Server
 Software Requirements
◦ Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 or CC

Advantages
 Reducing of paper-based work to enter and store medical records.
 Reducing medical errors caused by certain inaccuracies and doctor’s handwriting.
 Reducing medical costs and preventing any causes of re-testing.
 Reducing medical errors leading to health quality improvement.
