KTN, the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and ADS organised on Thursday 20th May an online event to showcase the latest EU funding opportunities for the aerospace sector.
Although the UK has left the EU, it is still an Associate Member of Horizon Europe, the EU’s research and innovation programme that will run from 2021 to 2027. This means that UK scientists, researchers and businesses can continue to access funding under the programme on equivalent terms as organisations in EU countries. It is therefore fundamental that the UK innovation community is fully aware of the opportunities that remain open to them.
By coming to this event we aim to:
• Attract UK companies to submit proposals for European funding calls
• Provide clarity to UK organisations on the need and value to participate in EU competitions
• Attract non-aerospace organisations to the competitions
• Create an opportunity for new collaborations and connections

The Sustainable Multi-functional Automated Resilient Transport Infrastructures European Training Network (SMARTI ETN), will bring together a stimulating platform where key stakeholders of the transport infrastructure sector will work alongside worldwide experts in smartening of systems (developers of high-tech sensors, advanced monitoring equipment, automated structures, etc.,) with direct support from the roads, railways and airports managers.
This environment will enable talented graduates to conceive the transport infrastructure network of the future and will provide them with worldwide extended and globally-leading training in each of the four pillars supporting the SMARTI vision:
• designed by using improved decision frameworks aimed at improving durability, maximising recycling and minimising environmental, economic and social impacts
• conceived not for transport purposes only but also towards optimisation of land use by adding energy harvesting capabilities
• equipped with low-cost, wireless sensors to allow pro-active communication aiming for a more intuitive use and a simplified management
• conceived to self-repair and be adaptable to changes due to natural and anthropogenic hazards
This unique consortium of excellence will be driving the researchers into 15 individual research projects (IRPs) clustered in two highly linked and multidisciplinary Work Packages (WP2, WP3) consisting of training-through-research paths, leading to the formation of a new generation of academy industry-ready graduate, in the “development of Prototype of infrastructure’s components” and in the redaction of “Guidelines for the SMARtening of design, construction and management practices for Road, Railways and Airports Infrastructure” written with collaborations among the fellows and stakeholders and that will be disseminated in Europe and beyond.
Our network of public and private sector partners provide outstanding expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, and complement each other, bringing together the necessary scientific and professional power needed to provide high-quality training and cutting-edge research in the field of smartening of transport infrastructures.

A CAR POOLING MODEL WITH CMGV AND CMGNV STOCHASTIC VEHICLE TRAVEL TIMESEditor IJMTER
Carpooling (also car-sharing, ride-sharing, lift-sharing), is the sharing of car journeys so
that more than one person travels in a car. It helps to resolve a variety of problems that continue to
plague urban areas, ranging from energy demands and traffic congestion to environmental pollution.
Most of the existing method used stochastic disturbances arising from variations in vehicle travel
times for carpooling. However it doesn’t deal with the unmet demand with uncertain demand of the
vehicle for car pooling. To deal with this the proposed system uses Chance constrained
formulation/Programming (CCP) approach of the problem with stochastic demand and travel time
parameters, under mild assumptions on the distribution of stochastic parameters; and relates it with a
robust optimization approach. Since real problem sizes can be large, it could be difficult to find
optimal solutions within a reasonable period of time. Therefore solution algorithm using tabu
heuristic solution approach is developed to solve the model. Therefore, we constructed a stochastic
carpooling model that considers the in- fluence of stochastic travel times. The model is formulated as
an integer multiple commodity network flow problem. Since real problem sizes can be large, it could
be difficult to find optimal solutions within a reasonable period of time.

3. Proposed Approach
The BlueStor-ZE project will validate a novel waterborne energy storage system based on
organic flow battery technology with super-capacitor technology for peak power provision. It
will advance this capability from concept level through to system-level validation and
performance assessment (TRL5).
A complete test system will be built, operated and monitored to gather actual performance
data, including under dynamic loading conditions. Preliminary engineering and costing of
three use-cases will support the investment in commercial development.
The consortium is missing some expertise: inland waterway vessel builder, some target
users and suppliers of some system components.

Proposed Approach
Problem: Advance the knowledge on human-AI interaction in the
context of self-driving vehicle at different level of automation.
While significant progress has made in autonomous technology, the
interactions with humans remains a problem to be addressed more
effectively and efficiently, in particular, in partial autonomy Levels 2,3
and 4 when the driver can be requested to retake control over the
vehicle. It is essential to study how drivers would act when they are
subjected to an unstructured emergency transition of control.
Scope: Develop a better HMI system for autonomous vehicle able to
increase human trust in the system and improve the human-AI
symbiosis in turn taking and shift of control.
The system to be tested with different types of population.
Partners sought: Automated vehicle researchers or industrial
developer, end-users groups, transport research.

Track record: long standing national and international record in
obtaining funding. Research expertise and publications in the area of
AI, HCI, VR and simulations.

6. Proposed Approach
Mobility management and planning requires reliable, high-scale, frequent mobility data, addressing
remote areas also. IoT technologies manage vehicle fleets, but sensing human mobility is still
fractional.
GEOInsight and CSFK Big Geospatial Data Lab are engaged with sensing, modelling, simulating, and
forecasting human mobility by incorporating high-scale individual mobility trajectory data
(telecommunication, Bluetooth, wifi).
We are looking for use cases where our software products can be demonstrated, tested, and
further developed to reach MVP. The three main areas where we are looking for demonstrational
use cases are sensing, modelling/simulating/forecasting, and profiling human mobility.

15. Proposed Approach
• Combustion is a double-edged sword for today’s world; The dilemma cannot be fully resolved
until alternative sustainable energy sources can completely replace fossil fuels on a global scale.

• We will develop a unique approach to snap-shot key reaction intermediates in combustion and
will gain molecular-level insights into combustion
• We seek academia and industry partners on civil and power engineering, kinetic modelling, etc.
to develop new accurate combustion models and to achieve cleaner and more energy-efficient
combustion in both engines (airlines and freight) and power plants.
