This document summarizes the BIMcert project, which aims to develop a framework for recognizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) skills across Europe. The project is led by Belfast Metropolitan College in partnership with higher education institutions. It seeks to improve sustainability in construction through BIM training, engage industry stakeholders, and create clear career pathways for skills development. If successful, BIMcert would establish a pan-European system of micro-accreditations for specialized BIM knowledge and an adaptable curriculum to help workers gain skills for energy efficiency and sustainability in construction.

Training for a career in science begins with formal theoretical and practical instruction at an academic institution, often followed by advanced training and eventual employment also at an academic institution. This career path is one which has been historically taken by most scientists.
In recent years, increasing numbers of academic scientists are choosing commercial laboratories to pursue their research careers. This shift in career path is driven to a large degree by the eroding of financial support for academic scientists, as evidenced by the downward trend in the funding rate for grants submitted to the NIH, NSF, and private foundations. Perhaps the greatest challenge for an academic scientist contemplating a move to a commercial laboratory is to adjust their thinking of โdoing science for science sakeโ to โdoing science for commercializing a productโ.
This insightful Webinar will cover areas to be considered when making this career change, including the culture of the commercial laboratory working environment, career advancement, scientific recognition, mentoring, and availability of opportunities.
5 Key Take-Aways:
Similarities and difference between academic and commercial laboratory working environments
Suggestions on how to increase your autonomy and independence in conducting research at a commercial laboratory
How to โhedge your betsโ so that deadlines and milestones are reached
Balancing publishing and intellectual property generation
The difference in costs between academic and commercial laboratory research
Who Should Attend:
Any academic PI, scientist, post-doc, graduate student, technician contemplating a move from a university-based research laboratory to a commercial biotechnology or pharmaceutical development laboratory.

Within Europe โ absolute need for coordination within Construction Industry to enhance collaboration, training and upskilling.
1. Europe requires a more coordinated approach in order to enhance collaboration and other skills in the industry. This will, in turn, help reduce waste, reduce inefficiencies in the all supply chain, and improve coordination and management, while incorporating better, more suitable and more sustainable design choices and decision making as required by the EE14 Call
BIM is seen as one of the core multidisciplinary, collaborative processes that can achieve this, while ensuring a more sustainable future built environment.
2. Governments globally have identified Building Information Modelling (BIM) as one of the core multidisciplinary, collaborative processes that enables creation and control of the Built Environment for better conservation of materials and resultant lower embedded and ongoing energy consumption (delivery of at least 30% reduction in carbon, while becoming an economic booster by help to achieve savings in cost, time and exports)
The BIMcert Project will certainly contribute to this need.
3. BIMcert is the development of a series of training interventions using digital technology and improved blended techniques to support, enhance and maximise the impact of energy efficient skills at all operational levels within the modern construction industry.
BIMCERT through the use of its innovative Strategic Compass will The Core Application Partners (CAP) supported by the Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) and the Industrial Advisory Panel (IAP) will work in unison ensuring coherent strategic direction and delivery continually meets industry needs. The output from the strategy compass will ensure embedding BIM skills within construction, targeting the entire design chain, material life cycles, energy production/consumption and sustainability.
BIMcert is a flexible programme that will provide the training and qualification scheme for the BIM skills needed to support sustainable energy efficient construction.
