your gifted leadership spanning two decades. As you look through this book, we

20. At a time in one’s life when most people take more time for themselves, Connie chose to contribute his time and talents to the
good of Hudson Valley Community College. He has been an inspiration to board members with his keen mind, always offering a
perspective on current issues that I certainly wish to emulate. I am very proud
to have served my first few years on the board with Connie Lang. Thank you.
– Judith Breselor
When I think of Judge Lang, I think of three things: he is the definition of a perfect gentleman,
his love for and dedication to Hudson Valley Community College is second to none, and he drives
the coolest car. It is my honor to have served with him on the Board of Trustees.
– Cathy Conroy
If there is a model for what a college trustee should be, it is Connie Lang. He has intelligence, integrity, a great sense of humor,
and above all, a deep love and a respect for Hudson Valley Community College and the role it plays both in education and in the
Capital District. His service on the board, and his father’s before him, have been exemplary. His family’s history and the college’s
history are intertwined. It has been a professional privilege and personal pleasure to work with him; there is none better.
– Bill Fagan
The Honorable Conrad Lang, Jr. has given unstintingly of his time, wisdom, experience, and support to the Hudson Valley Community
College Board of Trustees, as well as to the institution and its students, faculty, and staff. His dedication to and love of the college
have been the hallmark of his many years of service. One only had to listen to the remarks he would make at college events,
Commencement in particular, to understand how deeply he cares for Hudson Valley and how committed he is to its continuing
success. I am sure I speak for all of my colleagues and the entire college community when I say how extraordinarily appreciative we
are for all that Judge Lang has done for Hudson Valley over the years, and that we wish him the very best for the future.
– Michael Green
21. What I will most remember about Connie is, that whatever the occasion, he always would come up with a story.
A story that would be both humorous and exactly on point for whatever the occasion might be.
– Bill Jennings
Not many people know this, but Connie was a pioneer in the brave new world of connecting to a board meeting via
videoconference. He was also the first board member to ask to try an iPad to access his board materials. He approached new
technology the same way he approached his work on the board: with an open mind and a wonderful sense of humor. Connie, you
may be retiring from the board, but I know you and Betty will still be here to support HVCC. Thank you for everything!
– Suzanne Kalkbrenner
Connie, I first met you during the 1993 election, when we were both fortunate enough to be elected. Not all candidates and
elected officials are always driven by a need to serve the public, and I saw many of both types during that election and others.
But my first impression of you was that you were one of the most honorable and conscientious public servants I had ever met.
As I have worked with you on the board over the years and come to know you better, my opinion has only been strengthened.
Your commitment to serving the college and the people of Rensselaer County has been a constant inspiration to me.
As you move on, your guidance and counsel will be sorely missed by myself and the board.
I wish you all the best for the future.
– Joe Kapp
It’s tough to put into words what Judge “Connie” Lang has meant to this institution, plus no matter how good of a
job I did in detailing his influence, contributions, and overall impact it would still pale in comparison to how much
he’s contributed & influenced me personally during my time not only on the board, but all during the years I had
the honor of working with HVCC as Rensselaer county’s Legislative chair. No one has done more for Hudson Valley
Community College than Connie and the entire Lang Family.
– Neil Kelleher
22. Judge Lang’s terms on our board reflected the lifelong values he abided by. These values included integrity, honesty,
and humility, along with a wonderful sense of humor. It was my privilege to know him and
to work with him as liaison to the board. I wish him well.
– Jim LaGatta
The name of the Lang family is synonymous with the history of HVCC, and when you mention Connie Lang you think
gentleman, educator, orator and philanthropist. Never was there an event for students or a fundraising activity where Connie
was not in attendance along with his wife, Betty. Connie truly made a difference for HVCC because he truly wanted to!
– Regina LaGatta
Connie is a true gentleman. His calm, professional demeanor has been accentuated with his genuine concern and
support of the college and the EOC. I would use a word like, authentic, to describe him. I believe that he has always
been able to make whoever was in his presence feel valued and respected. He genuinely has been able to convey
that he is in service to support the institution, its students, and those who work at the college.
– Lucie Marion
Connie, It’s been a true privilege to work with you during these past 13 years.Your genuine good nature and
fairness paired with your incomparable perspective and guidance will never be forgotten. I have great respect for
what you and your family have given to the college, and we’re all very fortunate that you chose to follow in your
father’s footsteps. Thank you for your many years of leadership and friendship.
– Drew Matonak
Connie is a person who has dedicated his whole life to service to the community. Thank you for all you’ve done on
the Board of Trustees, and I wish you all the best in your retirement.

23. Dear Connie,As your time on the Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees draws to a close, I want to
express my sincere gratitude for your service and support. Board service is the toughest volunteer role one may
take on, but you took on your board duties with dedication, honesty, grace and seriousness.
I know you always carefully deliberated on matters that came before the board for a vote. In your role as Chairman
of the board, you were both wise and virtuous, and I am grateful you shared those qualities with the board and
college. I will miss working with you, but look forward to keeping in touch with you.
Sincere best wishes to you and your family for much love, joy, happiness and good health in the future.
– George Raneri
