Homo Sapiens Thesis
Most scientists estimate that it was about 150,000 years ago that the species Homo Sapiens first
appeared, armed with nothing; no sharp claws nor swift legs. Yet, despite this lack of physical
advantages, their descendents–us–are now living in a world where we like to think that we rule this
earth. Ours is a triumph that far transcends the expectations one might have had about our species–
because, well, who'd have guessed that this particular kind of ape will one day dominate the earth?
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind is Dr. Yuval Noah Harari's 500–page long attempt to
provide answers to that question. (Which might not seem very "brief", but it's got all our 150,000
years condensed into one single volume... I mean, what's not to like?)
Hailed by the Sunday Express as "a starburst of a book" and by Observer as "thrilling and breath–
taking", Sapiens, originally written in Hebrew, soon became an international bestseller following its
publication in English. It's now translated into more than 30 languages worldwide, including
Korean.. This fact may strike you as peculiar, but in reality, it's easy to see how it became so readily
popular. Narrated by the Oxford–educated scholar, Dr. Harari, Sapiens is a tour–de–force that ...

He suspects that the key to our success lies in our use of language. Our language is an extremely
effective system that allows a limited number of vowels and consonants to form words, which then
creates an endless amount of different sentences. Endowed with this ability that allowed us to share
in complex identities ranging from tribal spirits and human rights, we came to cooperate in
complicated procedures and consequently form societies. It was this great cognitive revolution that
fundamentally differentiated us, argues Harari, from our ape

Essay on Herto Homo Sapiens and the Origin of Man
Herto Homo Sapiens and the Questionable Origin of Man
Many discoveries have been made that give more and more clues to the history of life on earth.
Paleontologists find artifacts throughout the world that not only answer many questions but also
raise many new ones. A topic that is still a mystery today is the origin of man. Scientists often
debate over where man originated from and who some of his prehistoric relatives were. Some
people think that all men are related, and that there has been inter breeding between different groups
of men. (I.e. the Neanderthals from Eurasia at some point bred with the homo sapiens of Africa.)
Others believe that certain groups of men evolved in a completely different time period in a

sapiens evolved over the past 2 million years with at least some interbreeding of African, Asian, and
European populations."iii[3] The following explains the magnitude of research that went into the
Herto fossils and why scientists claim that the aforementioned is indeed false and that these fossils
are indeed immediate ancestors of anatomically modern humans. Two of the skulls found were that
of two adults and a child estimated to be around 6 to seven years old. One of the adults still had
intact its facial bones. Over the next three years after the fossils were discovered the sediment was
cleaned off of them and they were reconstructed. The child's cranium alone had more than 200
pieces.iv[4] Along with the skulls, many other artifacts were found at the Herto sight. Pieces of skull
and teeth were found that belonged to seven other Homo sapiens individuals. Hippopotamus bones
were also found in the area. They had incisions that seemed to be made from stone tools while the
Homo sapiens were either killing the animals or scavenging the animals for meat.v[5] The fossils
and the site from which the fossils' were discovered were extensively researched. Measurements
were taken from various parts of each skull and compared to Neanderthals found in Eurasia. From
their findings scientists who researched the skulls believe that there is no direct correlation between
the Homo sapiens from Africa

Why Do Homo Sapiens Survive
Surviving with Adaptability
There are roughly two hundred species on earth going extinct every day, with thousands more
entering the area of endangerment (Donovan). Nevertheless, humans have been living on this planet
for nearly 100,000 years now (FAQ). With over 7.4 billion living in the world today, it is hard to say
that Homo sapiens haven't been a successful species (Current). Clearly, some trait we possess has
allowed us to maintain our presence at the top of the food chain and survive the tests of time. The
mandatory ability to adapt and the willingness to change are key characteristics for someone to
survive and thrive through the generations of time. We learn from our past and history has proved to
us that the world is constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New things become popular while others die out. Modern day technology has become one of the
largest industries in the 21st century and as H. Sapiens continue to invent new gadgets and
equipment to assist in everyday life, we are ultimately adapting by making things easier. The use of
cars and automobiles has allowed us to transport items significantly faster than we were previously
able to. Very similar to that, the use of electricity has enabled a multitude of items with a single
common result; making our lives simpler. It is hard to imagine life without these two technological
advances. Neanderthals proved that a life like this was capable, but much more difficult as their
techniques required more manual labor. Generally speaking, these improvements were provoked by
our ability to adapt and our openness to change. The evolution of the human, and more specifically
the mental aspect of them, has enabled us to thrive in this world. The human race has predicated
itself as being the alpha male in the animal kingdom and we have accomplished this feat by
modifying our lives and environments to fit the circumstances placed before us. In order to remain
at the top of the chart and survive through time, humans must continue to possess the trait of
adaptability. Homo sapiens have inhabited Earth for one hundred thousand years now. Hopefully
people will continue to adapt and remain on Earth for another hundred thousand

Homo Sapiens And The Extinction
Homo sapiens Role in Neanderthal Extinction
"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one
that is most adaptable to change"(Evolution Quotes). So far in the saga that is Earth humanity has
been on the winning side of change. Humans have evolved over time from simple hunter gathers to
an advanced species of builders and thinkers. Humans have built complex cities, created advanced
medicine, and even left their own plant for the moon. Despite all these remarkable achievements
humans were not the first species of Homo to expand across the globe. Before Homo sapiens
dominated the Earth, their cousins Homo–Neanderthals roamed Europe and Asia hunting big game
and thriving. However, between 30,000 and 40,00 years ago the Neanderthal population began to
decrease drastically. It is unclear what caused this drastic drop in Neanderthal population, but one
leading theory points an evolutionary finger at Homo sapiens. The introduction of Homo sapiens
into the Neanderthal environment negatively affected the Neanderthal population size through
increased food completion, Homo Sapien violence, and interbreeding Homo Neanderthals were a
stocky species, which had an average height of about 5ft 5in and a large brain similar to humans.
Neanderthals were well adapted to live in the cold temperature of northern Europe, and in their
prime the Neanderthal population is estimated to be as large as 70,000 individuals (Bocquet 2013,
1).

Homo Sapiens Research Paper
After living on the Earth for approximately 3.0 to 3.9 million years, it seems that the
Australopithecus afarensis have a new species emerging into the world – Homo sapiens. They have
developed far more improving traits that has changed the evolution of species forever. The three
main different characteristics the Homo sapiens have compared to other apes are that they walk with
an upright posture, their head size are much larger in size, and the way their teeth are formed are
completely different. This comes to show that Homo sapiens have morphed into a predominant
species by their use of locomotion, their modern dental system, and their large brain size making
them the most unique and dexterous species amongst any other species that have yet ... Show more

They have the largest brain weight compared to the earlier hominids as their weight have reached a
heavy1,350 grams. That is 501 grams more than the species that existed before Homo sapiens. A
main focus is on the two areas of communications in the brain, the Broca's area and the Wernicke's
area. The Broca's area is located in the frontal lobe and is always larger in the left hemisphere than
the right. This defines language ability. Thus, explains why the Broca's area in humans are relatively
larger than those of other apes. It also explains why we are move advanced in language. The
Wernicke's area, which is located right in the temporal lobe, is where the most essential area for
language comes from – the planum temorale. It is reflective of the dominance of the left hemisphere
because it is involved in communication. The planum temporale is seen to be much larger than those
in other apes because it extends more posteriorly (Caroll 852). On the other hand, the change of the
brain size did not occur by itself. The weight of the brain is based on the weight of the body.
Therefore, Homo sapiens have smaller body mass than apes who had larger bodies and smaller brain
size. The development of the brain granted Homo sapiens improvement as they became competent
enough to communicate and make

Early Homo Sapiens: Uniregional versus Multiregional...
As fossil evidence has shown, we see that all pre–human forms, from Proconsul to
Australopithecines, have resided in parts of Africa. We don't see any movement out of Africa until
the appearance of the Homo erectus fossils. These fossils have been found not only in Africa, but
have also been found in parts of Europe and Asia. This is when scientists begin to disagree on how
these pre–modern humans spread from Africa to other continents. Some scientists believe in the
hypothesis known as the Multiregional Theory. This theory states that Homo erectus left Africa
about two million years ago and from there migrated to Europe and Asia. These H. erectus then
evolved, simultaneously, into Homo sapiens, or the modern looking and ... Show more content on

H. erectus then traveled to other continents from there about two million years ago. These pre–
modern humans that were spread out all over Asia and Europe were then believed to evolve into H.
sapiens autonomously. This theory helps scientists to explain why there are genetic and
phonotypical differences between "races", such as skin color, hair color, facial features, and so forth.
It additionally explains why we have some evidence of H. erectus fossils being in places other than
Africa.
Many scientists discredit this hypothesis because of the unlikely probability of the mutations and
conditions needed to be present. Mutations and the selection for these mutations must occur in order
for a species to evolve. "Evolution certainly does involve randomness, it does involve unpredictable
chance. For example, the origin of new genetic variation by mutation is a process that involves a
great deal of chance," (Futuyma). Mutations are random and often times aren't even expressed in an
organism's phenotype. For natural selection to occur first, a mutation must occur, the mutation
cannot kill or maim the offspring, and that mutation must be beneficial to the species before it will
begin to be selected for, and therefore change the species. In this theory, all groups of H. erectus
must have experienced similar mutations and similar natural pressures to select for the mutations to
evolve simultaneously in different places in the world. It must also be taken into account that

Homo Sapien Human Evolution
Charles Darwin stated that the evolution of man would take not thousands of years but millions of
years. In the case of the human species (Homo sapien) evolutionary theory posits that this has been
the case. Human evolution begins with the primate lineage which also includes new and old world
monkeys, and apes (Phelan, 2015). It is important to note that researchers have determined that the
chimpanzee is the humans closest living relative. While, humans and chimpanzees have similar
genetic and anatomical structure which signifies a close evolution relationship, it is also important
to note the anatomical differences that distinguish Homo sapiens. Unlike chimpanzees, humans
evolved toward bipedalism, grew larger brains and eventually became bigger in size (Phelan, 2015).
As Darwin suggested human evolution has branched down for millions of years and thus has many
significant events that result in the human beings that we are today. ... Show more content on

habilis appeared as the first species that was bipedal and had a larger brain volume than the
chimpanzee (2015). This species also had smaller teeth. Stone tools found by archaeologists suggest
that the Homo habilis may have been the first species to use more civilized methods for food

Essay on Neanderthals and Homo sapiens
There is evidence to suggest that Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens had coexisted for
approximately 35–40,000 years, (Fagan 2010) from around 60,000 years ago to 25,000 years ago
when they finally went extinct (Gibbon 2001). Anthropologists are still uncertain what the cause of
their extinction was. This paper will analyze three main theories of Neanderthal extinction. The first
theory is the competition theory, which claims that the Homo sapiens and Neanderthals had to
compete for resources, ultimately leading to their demise. The second theory I will discuss is the
climate change theory, which claims that Homo sapiens lived while Neanderthals died because they
were better adapted to the climate. The last theory I will discuss is ... Show more content on

Upon investigating the bones Schmerling did not recognize them as a distinct species (Sawyer et al.
2007).The first true Neanderthal was discovered in the Neander Valley, near Dusseldorf in 1856 by a
group of miners who were blasting out a cave in the area. When the crew uncovered archaic bones
they contacted a local schoolteacher, Johann Karl Fuhlrott. Fuhlrott was the first to recognize the
fossils as a new species. In 1864, William King in the Quarterly Journal of Science identified this
new species as Homo neanderthalensis after the location of its unearthing (Sawyer et al. 2007).
Dietary Differences
The diets of Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens are very different. The diet of the Homo
sapiens shows how they were learning to adapt better to their environment, while the Neanderthals
were very set in how they gathered food. Studies of nitrogen preserved in the bones of Neanderthals
have shown that they consumed a substantial quantity of meat; "comparable to that eaten by
contemporary wolves" (Delson et. al 2006). The current interpretation of the Neanderthal diet is that
they "were most likely hunters rather than scavengers" (Delson et. al 2006). It was once thought that
the Neanderthal diet was comprised mainly of meat due plant life being seasonal in the cold climate
they inhabited. Evidence suggests however that the "Middle East Neanderthals ... living in the
relatively warmest climate consume mostly meat" (Sawyer et al. 2007) proving that

Is Symbolic Language The Defining Features Of Homo Sapiens?
Is symbolic language the defining feature of Homo sapiens? By: Heidi Hakala Friday 10th of June,
2016 What makes us unique? What makes us human? These are complex questions to which
humans have struggled to find an adequate answer, even after the course of hundreds of years. I
personally believe there are many reasons and factors as to why humans today are in control of the
planet, with the most defining feature of our species being collective learning, empowered by the
creation of symbolic language. Humans are undoubtedly intelligent creatures with complex minds
and remarkable mass cooperation abilities. As Harari (2015) stated: "Humans control the planet,
because they are the only animals that can cooperate both flexibly and in very large numbers".
Alternatively, some may argue other intelligent species, such as dolphins or chimpanzees also
possess the ability to express views and opinions, having language very similar to ours; however,
what makes human language so unique is its variety and complexity. As cleverly described by Jason
Goldman (2012): "Whales sing, monkeys howl, birds chirp. Lizards bob their heads up and down to
communicate, and some squid do it by regulating the coloration of their skin cells. But none of these
processes can be explained by language." The distinctiveness of human language is not defined by
how it allows individuals to communicate with each other, but instead, the infinite variety that
follows. While other species communicate to

There's no doubt there are still many uncertainties in understanding the origins of moderns humans.
Most of the data we have available to answer our most burning evolution question come from the
success of archaeological techniques. But due to the nature of archaeology and the ruthlessness of
taphonomic process, there are still gaps in the archaeological record. So when it comes to answering
the bigger questions of where did Homo sapiens originated and how it becomes very difficult to
make proper conclusions. Some of the major issues we have to deal with are the smaller temporal
focus and the fact that Homo sapiens have a wide geographic distribution, so there's a lot of ground
to be covered when making conclusions. (Lewin 2004) Often we find ... Show more content on

With the development and use of techniques that take of advantage of genetics, we have been
allowed to see into the biological connects and lineages of human ancestors. When studying the
lineages of humans, we look to the mitochondria DNA that is passed on from mother to offspring.
By look at MtDNA anthropologist hoped to find different and similar DNA types that will lead them
to ancestor. They determined that the MtDNA in modern humans can be track back all the way to a
single woman. (Lewin 2004) This woman was given the flashy and misleading name of
Mitochondrial Eve as her DNA has been only preserved through a linage that consistency produces
female offspring to pass on her DNA. Through the analysis of DNA we can also see the genetic
diversity of our species. Most animal populations have wide pool of genetic diversity, but humans
are different is actually having a very narrow gene pool. Human has one tenth of genetic variation of
other apes. (Lewin 2004) By using a mathematical method that can track the mutation rate across
DNA of modern human, the lack of variation suggest that H. sapiens evolved very recently within
the last 280,000 years. (Lewin 2004) This explanation would support the recent African origin as it
clearly put a fairly recent date on the appearance of H. sapiens. Despite this explanation, there is
also the possibly of a bottle neck event occurring early on in human history. A bottleneck event
occurs when the genetic variation of a species is greatly reduced due a causes like a massive wide
spread deaths, and despite the massive reduction the species can still live and on flourish. A
bottleneck event could have occurred during the Multiregional origin, because history shown causes
like wide spread diseases could enough force to reduce the gene pool. But as Lewin points over
these two explanations are not

The Digestive System : Homo Sapiens
Digestive System: Homo Sapiens
Focusing on the two man orifices involved with the digestive system of the human body, we are
donuts. Inserting food into the mouth to begin the process, which will eventually expel the unusable
waste material out of the body at the anus.
In the mouth several structures act simultaneously to start digestion and is composed of two
portions. The buccal cavity, the space in front of the teeth bounded to the cheek and gums; and the
oral cavity proper the space inside the teeth. The enamel covered dentin are used to chew, breaking
down the food into smaller pieces. The tongue and salivary glands play a role during chewing as
well. The tongue is an organ that helps to manipulate the food in the mouth. In the surface
epithelium of the tongue are taste buds which allow for the identification of the chemical properties
of food(sweet, salty, bitter, sour, and umami). The parotid gland secretes serous, sublingual gland
secretes mucus and the submandibular secretes both serous and mucus. Together this solution is the
saliva. The saliva contains many proteins such as DNAse, RNAse, amylase, lipase and lysozyme.
These aid the tongue and teeth in manipulation of food into a bolus before the epiglottis directs it
into the oropharynx.
The pharynx is the first part of the throat. It is also an air passageway, but the epiglottis prevents the
bolus from entering this passage. The muscles of the pharynx then push the bolus into the
esophagus. Subsequently this

Homo Sapiens: Surviving In Different Environments
Throughout the Paleolithic area, homo sapiens were able to successfully disperse throughout six
continents and settle down in different environments. Their survival was due to the development of
various tools, the change in physical structure of humans, and gains in socialization.
In the beginning of the Paleolithic Era, there were major gains in tools necessary for survival.
Different hunting tools were established; this included spears, hooks, axes etc. Along with the tools
came available methods of hunting, which overall increased food consumption and ultimately
survival. Barbed fish tools allowed hunters to catch fish large enough to feed numerous people.
Spears were created to hunt flying or quickly moving animals, otherwise difficult to catch. Larger
axes and knives were made and allowed for hunters to kill large animals for food and also to protect
themselves from the dangerous predators. The various available methods of hunting were
detrimental to surviving within different environments. Geographical regions differed in prey, and in
some places hunters had to catch fish or birds, and in others they would hunt large animals.
Availability of food was a factor that had the potential of limiting survival; however, the
development of different tools made it so homo sapiens could adapt to different environments and ...

The Evolution Of Homo Sapiens
The species that you and all other living human beings on this earth belong to is Homo sapiens.
Homo sapiens, believed to have evolved over a very long period in Africa, Asia and Europe. Like
other early humans that were living at this time, they gathered and hunted food, and evolved
behaviors that helped them live day to day with the challenges of surviving in unstable
environments. Homo sapiens different characteristics such as larger brain, different size of canines,
and material cultural as in tool use have all helped them evolve, but in their own unique way. Some
traits may be a little somewhat similar to primates such as birth, sexual relations, family, bone

The brain of Homo sapiens have been proven to be much larger than that of primates. (Armstrong,
Falk 2012: 237) Anatomically, modern humans nowadays can generally be characterized by the
lighter build of their skeletons compared to earlier humans in the past. Modern humans have very
large brains, which vary in size from population to population and between males and females, but
the average size is approximately 1300 cubic centimeters in contrast to some primates such as
chimpanzees whose brain size averages from 275– 500 cubic centimeters. Most of this brain–size
difference reflects the evolutionary expansion of the association cortex, a group of regions that
supports such mental functions as language, self–awareness, and problem solving. As a result
modern humans have spread to every continent and vastly expanded their numbers. They have
altered the world in ways that benefit them greatly as in rapidly adjusting to such things like climate
change and new environments. Homo sapiens must remain in the care of their parents for much
longer than other living primates. Homo sapiens stay in their parents care for over 18 years, until
adulthood. In contrast to the Old World Monkeys, they stay with their parents for about 4–5 years.
This is typically because their parents conceive children every year. The question then becomes,
why would the children of homo sapiens remain with their parents for such a long period of time? It
might make more evolutionary sense to grow up rapidly to have more offspring and to be
independent, but it is in those 18 years that crucial knowledge is gained. The explanation may be our
large brains which presumably require a long time to grow and learn. Certain aspects of survival and
life are usually learned through parents and with the aid of their knowledge, we are able to learn
how to adapt to our social environments. Primates do this as well but not to

over time. Thus leading to the evolution of mankind. But man didn't just evolve from chimpanzees.
There were a lot of scientific processes and different events that led up to final evolution of

This slight change in chimps was discovered during current time by scientists around the world.
This provided a proof that humans evolved from chimpanzees. While these small changes were
occurring, chimpanzees were also slightly changing in looks and body stature. Chimpanzees slightly
were then described from being called chimpanzees to "ape man" by scientists. All of these finding
were discovered using fossils that scientists found in certain deserts and mountains in mainly Africa
and also other parts of the world. But something happened to the between the evolution of
chimpanzees and humans. This event changed the face of not only earth but also set a new
beginning of the evolution of humans. The Ice Age. This event shaped a new beginning for mankind
to start evolving. The Ice Age wiped off every living being including the chimpanzees. This set an
environment for the new species to start evolving. Thus came the Neanderthals. When the
Neanderthals came, more of human evolution was figured out by finding fossils of them. Scientists
have discovered that Neanderthals used more of their hands than chimpanzees. To this day scientist
have found older and older fossils of human origin. Neanderthals used their hands to make the first
tools in history made by mankind. Neanderthals evolved into humans who were able to adapt to the
cold brittle weather that was cast upon earth during that time. When the fossils of Neanderthals

Homo sapiens, or "consciously thinking human", evolved 25,000 years ago forming an
unprecedented presence in the environment and the efficient exploitation of the environment.
Physiological structural advantages aided the Homo sapiens in taking the upper hand over other
species. A fundamental difference in the brain structure of the Homo sapiens was a well–developed
frontal region where conscious and reflective thought takes place. Intelligence is the sharp edge of
survival for these hominids because physically they are not endowed with great strength or natural
means of defense which battle natural selection in the animal kingdom. Change in physiognomy
such as upright walking posture with opposable thumbs freed the hands from the task of locomotion
and was instead applied for the creation of higher sophisticated tools. Development of language
allowed for communication enhancing cooperation and a sense of cohesion as well as paving the
way for collective learning which is the drive for creating complexity. Homo sapiens used superior

muchas generaciones.

Because humans have existed in a wide variety of structural contexts, it becomes exceedingly
difficult to derive universal human attributes that can be used to produce a theorem of human nature.
The difficulty lies in that the varying forms of human socialization and institutions profoundly

Are Neanderthals Or Homo-Sapiens Acquire Knowledge?
Is the arduous journey for an uninhibited understanding of everything that humanity has so
desperately craved since the beginning of time an impossibility? As centuries pass, humanity's
acquisition of new knowledge has grown exponentially. Humanity's unquenchable thirst for new
knowledge has been around since the Neanderthals. Neanderthals and Homo–Sapiens (humans)
lived together in Europe for at least 5,000 years. The Neanderthals were superior to Homo–Sapiens
in almost all aspects: strength, intelligence, etc. However, they would explore until they encountered
an obstacle (ocean, mountain). Then they would remain grounded to the same area indefinitely.
However, Homo–Sapiens would travel through oceans and mountains without knowing what lay
ahead. Although it may seem foolish even self–destructive to do such a thing, it was the Homo–
Sapiens that survived and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this seems to be illogical, this is the way in which infinity functions. All whole numbers
are countable, however the fact that there is an infinite amount of whole numbers makes it
impossible to count all of them. This means that even if humanity was in such an advanced society
that all knowledge was acquirable, it would remain impossible to access all of it. But is knowledge
infinite? In several religions, there is a God who is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, and
omnipotent. This means that if God truly exist, He would know an infinite amount of knowledge,
meaning that there would be an infinite amount of knowledge. Regardless of the truth behind the
existence of God, those who believe in Him must accept the fact that there isn't a limit on
knowledge. However, even if knowledge is finite, the human race is so distant from the "end" that it
makes no practical difference. Nevertheless, no matter the amount of knowledge acquirable, there
will always be information that cannot be physically

Homo Sapiens In Search For Fire
Lets take it back 80,000 years, to when fire was first discovered. The film Quest For Fire was set in
Paleolithic Europe, and provides an accurate idea of the behaviour and life of the early human
species. By watching the film, it is clear to see that some tribes/groups are very different from
others, such as the homo erectus and the homo sapiens. The homo sapien specimen was the
precursor of modern humans, and was therefore capable of doing a lot more than the homo erectus
could. For example, the homo sapiens were clearly more socially advanced than the homo erectus.
Through the ways of communication and social organization, we can easily differentiate the homo
sapiens from the homo erectus, and tell that the homo sapiens are definitely more ... Show more

For example, the way they lived and who they lived with. As shown in the movie, the homo erectus
tends to sleep in large groups, in a communal fashion. However, the homo sapiens tend to live in
smaller groups, as families, sort of like how we tend to live now. The homo erectus group also
appeared to have a hierarchical system, where some members were ranked higher or lower than
each other, according to status/authority. When it comes to the homo erectus group, they tend to live
in a more equal society. For instance, in the movie, the homo sapien women actually have choice in
what they do. While the homo erectus men would just rape women, going against the women's
desires, the homo sapiens had a sense of intimacy. Homo sapiens often used sex as a way to bond
with their partner, and in most cases, it actually meant something. In the movie, it appears that both
partners provided consent when two homo sapiens were having sex, which was not the case for the
homo erectus members. Another thing that differentiates the homo sapiens and the homo erectus is
that the homo erectus community in the movie had a lot of taboos, while the homo sapiens had less
of a tendency to instigate conflict. In the homo erectus community there were many social
prohibitions, and several actions that were declared as sacred and forbidden. If you were to break
one of these taboos, you would most likely be looked down upon, and be considered abhorrent to
others. However, the homo sapiens in the movie tended not to instigate conflict like the homo
erectus community did. Overall, the homo sapiens were more civilized than the homo erectus

The Evolution Of Allergies On Homo Sapiens
Sarah Husted
Anth 423
The evolution of allergies in Homo sapiens
As of 2008, approximately 25% of people in the developed world suffer from allergic disorders
(Galli, Tsai, Piliponsky, 2008). These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay fever,
asthma, eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as allergic
disorders. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is even higher
than in the general population with 40–50% of children susceptible to one or more type of allergy
(Pawankar et al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the developed world
for over 50 years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can often take years to find
a completely effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can severely disrupt everyday
life. With so many suffering from allergies it is no surprise that this area of health has been
thoroughly studied. Interestingly enough though, while we do know what happens in the human
body during an allergy attack there is still debate as to why we as humans evolved allergic disorders
in the first place.
On a biological level, when an allergen enters your system it triggers a Type 2 immune response
(Pulendran, Artis, 2012). Th2 cells and IgE antibodies control this type of immune response as
opposed to the Th1 and IgM, IgA and IgG used a Type 1 immune response (Palm, Rosenstein,
Medzhitov, 2012). Type 2 immune response is

What Makes Homo Sapiens Special?
Humans have subjugated the world, populating almost every continent. Homo sapiens have risen to
an overpowering, dominant level. But why us? What gave Homo sapiens such an advantage? Homo
sapiens are special in a cognitive sense, and the only major evolutionary advantage they have been
given is able brains. Humans are intellectually driven– we want to learn things. They have more
inventive ability than any other living creature. They enjoy expression and explaining things to
those around us. In fact, Homo sapiens think so big and so inventively that human bodies have had
to change to fit their ability to think and to create. Humans have learned so much over the course of
our 200,000 year existence, and we continue to strive for knowledge. First, an innate craving for
understanding is an important trait unique to humans. It is remarkable that Homo sapiens take time
to just try and figure things out. This is something that has been apparent throughout the entirety of
humans' existence, and still is today. We try to conceive a way to make tasks easier, and we
understand that the only method by which this can be done is to first have a total understanding of
the mechanics of things. This desire for comprehension is reflected in humans' gradual exodus from
Africa. The most popular theory is that humans left Africa solely because they were instinctively
curious about what lies beyond the environment they have become accustomed to (NOVA, episode

Analysis Of Homo Sapiens And The Hunger Games
There are a lot of questions raised throughout this course thus far, that address the key concepts that
have been explored both from the readings as well as The Hunger Games. Homo Sapiens by Yuval
Harari explored the various ways that homo sapiens have evolved, both good and bad. Harari
identifies the trademark events in history that catapulted homo sapiens into the fast track adaptation
that we had. Because of the agricultural, cognitive, and industrial revolution, homo sapiens were
able to change how we see individual potential. Not only did homo sapiens evolve as a whole, but
these revolutions allowed for individual strive and determination. The readings on ethics allowed for
an insightful view into how cultures interact with each other and how relationships can be affected,
both positively and negatively. Finally, the showing of The Hunger Games touched on dystopias and
how they make for a division in society. The Hunger Games showed how imagined orders are able
to take charge and manipulate the members in a community. The first question raised in the syllabus
is, what is the difference between surviving and thriving? At the beginning of this class, I would
have answered this question very differently. Prior to the knowledge that I now have, I would have
said that they are pretty much one in the same. However, Homo Sapiens especially has proven how
different these two states of emotion are. For example, Harari brought up the issue of factory raised
animals and how

muchas generaciones.

What Are Homo Sapiens?
What are Homo sapiens? Homo sapiens are the only existing human species left on earth evolving
since about 160,000 year ago. Homo sapiens is the complete modern humans Homo is the human
genus. Which also includes Homo erectus and Neanderthals plus many other extinct species of
hominid family. According to "most Paleoanthropologists agree that Homo erectus evolved into
Homo sapiens." (171). The Paleolithic period is a big part of human evolution, it is broken up into
three different measures lower, middle, and upper.
The lower period went back about 100,000 to 500,000 years ago. Homo erectus were the first
species that made stone tools by hand for survival purposes. Paleolithic period (2015) "Stone tools
of this period are of the core type, made by chipping the stone to form a cutting edge, or of the flake
type, fashioned from fragments struck off a stone. Hand axes were the typical tool of these early
hunters and food–gatherers." Without these tools living for Homo erectus would have been almost
impossible, the species could have gone extinct earlier. Hunting was a big part of life for these
species.
Next is the middle Paleolithic period which includes the Mousterian culture, this cultural is linked
with the Neanderthal species which is also an early form of humans. Neanderthals lived between
100,000 and 40,000 years ago evidence found in caves were use of fire! Can you believe that Homo
Neanderthals were the first species to identify fire and use it to survive?

Neanderthal Vs Homo Sapien Theory
Where did we come from? This question has plagued us as a species since our conception and it has
been the pinnacle of humanity to discover what we are and how we came to be. Through the use of
modern science and our understanding of evolution, we are closer to determining how our species
evolved than we have ever been before. Our closest hominid relative, the Neanderthal, is one such
link to our past that we study to understand how we came to be. In studying this species, it brings
about questions that have puzzle scientist in recent years. These are questions that delve deeper into
the differences and similarities between Homo sapiens and Neanderthals. Many modern humans
migrated out of Africa around 125,000 to 60,000 years ago leaving behind what are now modern
Africans in the continent. Those who migrated out of Africa dispersed over time, colonizing much
of Europe and Asia. This theory is known as the Out of Africa Theory (Stringer, 2000). One
interesting discovery that scientists have debated in recent years is over the findings ... Show more

fossil records and DNA analysis of both our species, it is clear that our species, Homo sapiens,
which evolved and have common ancestry with Neanderthals, migrated out of Africa and dispersed
across the continent, and some coupled with the native species and shared some traits that would
help us in our quest to survive. And perhaps in the future with new technologies we might learn
even more about how humans evolved and our interaction with Neanderthals. After all, what makes

Close Kin Relationships Among Homo Sapiens
It is commonly accepted that the population size of Homo sapiens was small in the beginning, with
such a limited number and scattered population due to the existence of hunter–gatherers, a
significant level of inbreeding would have been inevitable, almost indefinitely involving multiple
kin relationships. These unions continued during the following slow population growth of human
groups living mainly in rural settlements, with bottlenecks caused by periodic epidemics, famines,
and warfare.
During the mid 19th–century in Europe and North America first–cousin marriage remained socially
accepted and widely favored, especially among more privileged classes. When one looks at the
history of close–kin relationships among Homo sapiens, it is baffling

Evolution Of Homo Sapiens
The study on the evolution of human beings often presents many challenges. One of the main
challenges is the limited evidence and the constant emergence of new forms of evidence. From time
to time, scientists encounter the challenge of naming the fossils and putting them into their
appropriate group of species. This paper is going to be discussing the Homo erectus, Homo
Heidelbergensis, and Archaic Homo sapiens. The paper will make comparative analysis of the
individual species and point out why they deserve to be categorized as distinct species instead of a
one species that has different characteristics due to geographical differences.
Homo Heidelbergensis approximately lived about 600,000 years ago. This simply means the

The earlier species display a lower brain capacity per cubic centimeter. This is a progressive change
that is relative to the advancement of time. This shows that as time moved on, the earlier version
improved. And it has gradually but distinctly developed along with the human evolution. The three
types should indeed be categorized as different species. However, there are other times when some
differences should be considered a result of geographic differences. This applies for instance in the
case of Homo Erectus and Homo ergaster, proving the words of scientist that the two have such a
close similarity during the time of existence.
The other species that that could be confusing and be presented as the same species of the pre–
modern man is Ancient Homo sapiens and Homo Erectus. The two populations, though they present
some clear differences, it is possible that they may have been the same species but different families
or developed the differences due to the regional and geographical

Homo Sapiens: DNAAnalysis
Science and math allows for a new world of possibility. Intertwine the two, and we can see the
world through a new, logical lens. For example, through DNA analysis and extensive research,
science reveals the ancestors of mankind and provides solid evidence that all homo sapiens are
related– a task once thought impossible. Apply the Transitive Law of mathematics and the result is:
"If all organisms in the species are the same, and the group of organisms belonging to Homo sapiens
are a species, then all Homo sapiens should be the same." However, this isn't the case. War and
discrimination still plagues populations worldwide, and it becomes gradually harder to accept those
of particular religions as the growing threat of terrorism arises. The ... Show more content on

In this case, distorted perception is the root cause of discrimination. While it is impossible to
completely change every person's perception of various individuals and/or groups, a starting point
would be to expose these people with strong biases to the stories of others. For example, the United
Nations (U.N.) runs a website which allows various people from around the world to record their
stories. Made public, these stories can then be read by readers from other nations. Through websites
as such, readers will hopefully gain a new sense of empathy and understanding towards victims of
racial and religious discrimination. In turn, the newly–gained sense of understanding will eventually
allow people with previous biases to rethink their prejudices. The same idea works for those who
didn't have biases to begin with. Instead of spurring them to rethink their prejudices, these stories
will hopefully help them learn of the importance and impact of racial and religious discrimination.
The end result is the same: there will be less stigmatization between different skin colors and
religions. Although the final goal sounds fulfilling, all of this is very theoretical. None of the
aspirations are guarantees, making this not the perfect solution. There is no promise that just by
reading about someone else's story, a person with strong beliefs will automatically change what
they've believed for years. But

Why Did Homo Sapiens Survive?
When you look around, there is no denying that we all have a resemblance to each other. There are
many things that could explain this, but the most looked into is that we have a common ancestor,
and there is proof to back it up. With that proof also come questions like Why are there so many
different species? And Why did only homo sapiens survive?
Many ask, what is a common ancestor? A common ancestor would be an ape like creature which the
apes and early hominids must have breeded with in order to create different species of "humans".
Once the early apes breeded with it, they produced a different animal which evolutionized to be
modern aps. Once early hominids breeded with it, they produced an animal which branched out to
eventually leave homo sapiens roaming and later dominating the earth. This theory doesn't stand
alone, there is a great variety of fossil evidence to back it up.
The theory of a common ancestor has plenty of fossil evidence to back it up. Throughout the years
fossils from different human ancestors from different ages have been found. In 1856, the fossils of
neanderthals were found. Neanderthals lived from 200,000 to 300,000 years ago, they had a big
brain made of 1400 cc's, they were social, big creatures that learned to use and make tools and made
cave art. Neanderthals also buried their dead, like modern day humans. In 1892, the fossils of homo
erectus were found. Homo erectus lived about 1.8 million years ago. They had a brain of 600 to

workers, and classmates, among others. However, as a result of this need for acceptance, many
individuals may be afraid to reveal secrets in fear of being rejected by those who matter most to
them. For example, in Becky Albertalli's Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, readers follow
sixteen–year–old Simon Spier as he attempts to prevent the fact that he is gay from becoming public

While it may seem like everyone is involved in everyone else's life in high school, this is not the
case, for Simon notes that his group of friends have their own little world. For example, this can be
seen when Simon describes the scene at his lunch table whenever it is someone's birthday: "There's
a massive sheet cake at lunch, and when I get to the table, everyone is wearing party hats. That's the
tradition. No one gets cake without the hat" (Albertalli 82). Simon goes on to state that, while they
may receive peculiar looks, some classmates try to join in on the fun just to obtain a piece of cake.
This shows that it is illogical to think that everyone is focused on every little detail about every
other person, since groups of friends in high schools can have their own quirky traditions without
being ostracized. However, despite all of this, the possibility of backlash from classmates isn't
something to rule out. While it is unlikely that every single person will go out of their way to harass
Simon, it is also illogical to think that everyone will accept him as well. As previously mentioned,
Simon lives in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, which is an area not necessarily known for its liberal
views. This can be seen when Simon states, "At school, there are one or two guys who are out, and

Homo sapiens were a potent factor on eliminating the remaining Neanderthal population due to their
intelligence (Echoes). Researchers of Oxford University that compared the skulls of 32 Homo
sapiens and 13 Neanderthals concluded that the Neanderthals had significantly larger eye sockets.
Explanation: Although the Neanderthals and Homo sapiens had similar brain sizes, the larger eyes
of the Neanderthals were an adaptation to the long, dark nights of Europe which would have
required large visual processing areas in the brain. In addition, the Neanderthals also had massive
bodies which would have required more brain cells to control their physique, thus they had less
brain power available to them compared with the Homo sapiens. Neanderthals had physical features
that helped them survive cold climates, including large noses to humidify and warm dry, cold air

Recent studies suggests that more than 60 cubic miles of ash were blasted into the atmosphere and
covered a vast area of eastern Europe, North Africa and western Asia. Vast plumes of ash would
have blotted out the sun for months, or possibly years, and caused temperatures to plummet. Sulphur
dioxide, fluoride and chloride emissions would have generated intense falls of acid rain.
Explanation: Since the Neanderthals did not have up–to–date primitive technologies like their
counterparts, they were more susceptible to the negative impacts of the eruption. For example, the
sudden drops in temperatures following the eruption would have led many Neanderthals to freeze to
death, and during those dreary years, the blotting of the sun would have led to a dramatic decrease
in plant life, which would have led to a scarcity of prey, such as deer, and in turn affect the
Neanderthal population as there would have been an insufficiency of food for them due to their
outdated weapons and hunting

A Natural History Of The Homo Sapien
A Natural History of the
HOMO SAPIEN
160,000 years ago, a new species was born. Today, I am excited to say that I am a part of that
species; we all are. In fact, there are approximately 7 billion of us on this planet; Homo sapiens, that
is who we are. We evolved in Africa and like many other early humans that were living at this time,
we gathered and hunted food. But as time went on, we evolved, as to better suit our forever
changing environment. Humans have the capacity to adapt to any given situation and over time our
behaviors change, as to better suit said situation. Our behaviors is what allows us to challenge our
environment in any unstable circumstance and come out on the other side. After all, we are just
trying to survive.
Classification– Classifying an organism is no easy task. In order to classify an organism, we must
use a hierarchical system. The hierarchical system was invented by Carolus Linnaeus and includes
many aspects, such as an organisms kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and lastly,
species. So technically, species is what the organism is; is is it 's classification. You see, there are
different ways in which we define a species. In the case of the Homo sapien, species is a "sexually
reproducing organism" which in other words allows other members of said species to reproduce
amongst themselves creating viable offspring that can do the same. Although we call the Homo
sapien a 'human ', the more scientific term is whom we really are.

How Did The Homo Sapiens Outlive The Neanderthals?
The Homo Sapiens or ancient running men survived over the Neanderthals, because they were
better adapted to the changing climate and hunted more effectively and efficiently. Neanderthals
were a much stronger species with a much higher brain capacity, yet somehow the weaker Homo
sapiens survived longer than them. They were "the mighty hunters [humans] like to imagine [we]
once were; they stood shoulder to shoulder in battle, a united front of brains and bravery"
(Mcdougall, 41). The thing that enabled Homo sapiens to conquer the feat of outliving a far superior
species was the idea of persistence hunting, along with the disappearance of the Neanderthals.
Persistence hunting, enabled them to get meat which in turn developed their brains to a ... Show

There are two theories as to how the Neanderthals died, the first is that humans are the culprit, the
second is that it was caused by natural factors such as disease or climate change. The first theory is
built on the belief that Homo Sapiens had a greater talent for tool creation and social innovation.
The story is that Homo sapiens had hunted all of the Neanderthals food, and took away many of
their vital resources, driving them into the deep jungle. The second theory is that Homo sapiens had
nothing to do with it and that the Neanderthals were driven into the deep jungle by the warming
climate, diseases or another natural reason. Most people believe that "about forty–five thousand
years ago...the hot front moved in [and] the forests shrank, leaving behind parched grasslands
stretching to the horizon. [The new land] was great for the running men [because], the antelope
[population] exploded and [many] plump roots were [growing] all over the savannah, [but] the
Neanderthals [struggled], their long spears and ambushes were useless against the fleet of prairie
creatures, and the big game they preferred were retreating deeper into the [small] forests"
(Mcdougall, 42). Due to the Neanderthals large size they couldn't adopt the running mans style of
hunting, so to get a reliable source of food they followed the large game into the forests. One other
option as to the culprit of the neanderthals demise is the eruption of the Campi Flegrei volcano west
of Naples 39,000 years ago. More than 60 cubic miles of ash were blasted into the atmosphere and
covered a vast area of eastern Europe, North Africa and western Asia. "Some researchers have
suggested that Campi Flegrei, the biggest volcanic eruption in Europe for more than 200,000 years,
would have had a catastrophic impact. Vast [clouds] of ash would have blotted out the sun for

The Anatomy of Homo Sapiens is Unique
The anatomy of Homo sapiens is unique in several ways and sets us apart from other species all
across the world. One of the most distinguishing characteristics that differentiates Homo sapiens
from other species is the utilization of bipedal locomotion. Humans have established a unique way
of moving from one location to another that is due to the evolution numerous anatomical
developments over millions of years. Hominid bipedalism has evolved as a product of natural
selection, a theory coined by Charles Darwin in 1859. This theory of evolution through the process
of natural selection explains that some organisms are more reproductively fit than others. Therefore,
these organisms are able to pass on their beneficial genes to the next generation. Essentially, traits
that give certain organisms specific advantages, such as bipedalism in hominids, will be selected for
in greater numbers, and therefore more individuals in the succeeding populations will display these
beneficial traits (Darwin 1859). Darwin's theory can be used to help describe the central idea behind
the fascinating transformation process from quadrupedalism to bipedalism.
One of the most intriguing aspects surrounding this topic is the multiple different hypotheses for the
evolution from quadrupedal gait to bipedal locomotion. Due to the fact that evidence suggests that
the emergence of bipedalism occurred as early as 6 millions years ago, there have been many
hyptotheses as to how the earliest hominids

Homo Sapiens Thesis

  • 1. Homo Sapiens Thesis Most scientists estimate that it was about 150,000 years ago that the species Homo Sapiens first appeared, armed with nothing; no sharp claws nor swift legs. Yet, despite this lack of physical advantages, their descendents–us–are now living in a world where we like to think that we rule this earth. Ours is a triumph that far transcends the expectations one might have had about our species– because, well, who'd have guessed that this particular kind of ape will one day dominate the earth? Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind is Dr. Yuval Noah Harari's 500–page long attempt to provide answers to that question. (Which might not seem very "brief", but it's got all our 150,000 years condensed into one single volume... I mean, what's not to like?) Hailed by the Sunday Express as "a starburst of a book" and by Observer as "thrilling and breath– taking", Sapiens, originally written in Hebrew, soon became an international bestseller following its publication in English. It's now translated into more than 30 languages worldwide, including Korean.. This fact may strike you as peculiar, but in reality, it's easy to see how it became so readily popular. Narrated by the Oxford–educated scholar, Dr. Harari, Sapiens is a tour–de–force that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He suspects that the key to our success lies in our use of language. Our language is an extremely effective system that allows a limited number of vowels and consonants to form words, which then creates an endless amount of different sentences. Endowed with this ability that allowed us to share in complex identities ranging from tribal spirits and human rights, we came to cooperate in complicated procedures and consequently form societies. It was this great cognitive revolution that fundamentally differentiated us, argues Harari, from our ape ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Essay on Herto Homo Sapiens and the Origin of Man Herto Homo Sapiens and the Questionable Origin of Man Many discoveries have been made that give more and more clues to the history of life on earth. Paleontologists find artifacts throughout the world that not only answer many questions but also raise many new ones. A topic that is still a mystery today is the origin of man. Scientists often debate over where man originated from and who some of his prehistoric relatives were. Some people think that all men are related, and that there has been inter breeding between different groups of men. (I.e. the Neanderthals from Eurasia at some point bred with the homo sapiens of Africa.) Others believe that certain groups of men evolved in a completely different time period in a completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... sapiens evolved over the past 2 million years with at least some interbreeding of African, Asian, and European populations."iii[3] The following explains the magnitude of research that went into the Herto fossils and why scientists claim that the aforementioned is indeed false and that these fossils are indeed immediate ancestors of anatomically modern humans. Two of the skulls found were that of two adults and a child estimated to be around 6 to seven years old. One of the adults still had intact its facial bones. Over the next three years after the fossils were discovered the sediment was cleaned off of them and they were reconstructed. The child's cranium alone had more than 200 pieces.iv[4] Along with the skulls, many other artifacts were found at the Herto sight. Pieces of skull and teeth were found that belonged to seven other Homo sapiens individuals. Hippopotamus bones were also found in the area. They had incisions that seemed to be made from stone tools while the Homo sapiens were either killing the animals or scavenging the animals for meat.v[5] The fossils and the site from which the fossils' were discovered were extensively researched. Measurements were taken from various parts of each skull and compared to Neanderthals found in Eurasia. From their findings scientists who researched the skulls believe that there is no direct correlation between the Homo sapiens from Africa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Do Homo Sapiens Survive Surviving with Adaptability There are roughly two hundred species on earth going extinct every day, with thousands more entering the area of endangerment (Donovan). Nevertheless, humans have been living on this planet for nearly 100,000 years now (FAQ). With over 7.4 billion living in the world today, it is hard to say that Homo sapiens haven't been a successful species (Current). Clearly, some trait we possess has allowed us to maintain our presence at the top of the food chain and survive the tests of time. The mandatory ability to adapt and the willingness to change are key characteristics for someone to survive and thrive through the generations of time. We learn from our past and history has proved to us that the world is constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New things become popular while others die out. Modern day technology has become one of the largest industries in the 21st century and as H. Sapiens continue to invent new gadgets and equipment to assist in everyday life, we are ultimately adapting by making things easier. The use of cars and automobiles has allowed us to transport items significantly faster than we were previously able to. Very similar to that, the use of electricity has enabled a multitude of items with a single common result; making our lives simpler. It is hard to imagine life without these two technological advances. Neanderthals proved that a life like this was capable, but much more difficult as their techniques required more manual labor. Generally speaking, these improvements were provoked by our ability to adapt and our openness to change. The evolution of the human, and more specifically the mental aspect of them, has enabled us to thrive in this world. The human race has predicated itself as being the alpha male in the animal kingdom and we have accomplished this feat by modifying our lives and environments to fit the circumstances placed before us. In order to remain at the top of the chart and survive through time, humans must continue to possess the trait of adaptability. Homo sapiens have inhabited Earth for one hundred thousand years now. Hopefully people will continue to adapt and remain on Earth for another hundred thousand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Homo Sapiens And The Extinction Homo sapiens Role in Neanderthal Extinction "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change"(Evolution Quotes). So far in the saga that is Earth humanity has been on the winning side of change. Humans have evolved over time from simple hunter gathers to an advanced species of builders and thinkers. Humans have built complex cities, created advanced medicine, and even left their own plant for the moon. Despite all these remarkable achievements humans were not the first species of Homo to expand across the globe. Before Homo sapiens dominated the Earth, their cousins Homo–Neanderthals roamed Europe and Asia hunting big game and thriving. However, between 30,000 and 40,00 years ago the Neanderthal population began to decrease drastically. It is unclear what caused this drastic drop in Neanderthal population, but one leading theory points an evolutionary finger at Homo sapiens. The introduction of Homo sapiens into the Neanderthal environment negatively affected the Neanderthal population size through increased food completion, Homo Sapien violence, and interbreeding Homo Neanderthals were a stocky species, which had an average height of about 5ft 5in and a large brain similar to humans. Neanderthals were well adapted to live in the cold temperature of northern Europe, and in their prime the Neanderthal population is estimated to be as large as 70,000 individuals (Bocquet 2013, 1). ... • 5. Homo Sapiens Research Paper After living on the Earth for approximately 3.0 to 3.9 million years, it seems that the Australopithecus afarensis have a new species emerging into the world – Homo sapiens. They have developed far more improving traits that has changed the evolution of species forever. The three main different characteristics the Homo sapiens have compared to other apes are that they walk with an upright posture, their head size are much larger in size, and the way their teeth are formed are completely different. This comes to show that Homo sapiens have morphed into a predominant species by their use of locomotion, their modern dental system, and their large brain size making them the most unique and dexterous species amongst any other species that have yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They have the largest brain weight compared to the earlier hominids as their weight have reached a heavy1,350 grams. That is 501 grams more than the species that existed before Homo sapiens. A main focus is on the two areas of communications in the brain, the Broca's area and the Wernicke's area. The Broca's area is located in the frontal lobe and is always larger in the left hemisphere than the right. This defines language ability. Thus, explains why the Broca's area in humans are relatively larger than those of other apes. It also explains why we are move advanced in language. The Wernicke's area, which is located right in the temporal lobe, is where the most essential area for language comes from – the planum temorale. It is reflective of the dominance of the left hemisphere because it is involved in communication. The planum temporale is seen to be much larger than those in other apes because it extends more posteriorly (Caroll 852). On the other hand, the change of the brain size did not occur by itself. • 6. Early Homo Sapiens: Uniregional versus Multiregional... As fossil evidence has shown, we see that all pre–human forms, from Proconsul to Australopithecines, have resided in parts of Africa. We don't see any movement out of Africa until the appearance of the Homo erectus fossils. These fossils have been found not only in Africa, but have also been found in parts of Europe and Asia. This is when scientists begin to disagree on how these pre–modern humans spread from Africa to other continents. Some scientists believe in the hypothesis known as the Multiregional Theory. This theory states that Homo erectus left Africa about two million years ago and from there migrated to Europe and Asia. These H. erectus then evolved, simultaneously, into Homo sapiens, or the modern looking and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... H. erectus then traveled to other continents from there about two million years ago. These pre– modern humans that were spread out all over Asia and Europe were then believed to evolve into H. sapiens autonomously. This theory helps scientists to explain why there are genetic and phonotypical differences between "races", such as skin color, hair color, facial features, and so forth. It additionally explains why we have some evidence of H. erectus fossils being in places other than Africa. Many scientists discredit this hypothesis because of the unlikely probability of the mutations and conditions needed to be present. Mutations and the selection for these mutations must occur in order for a species to evolve. "Evolution certainly does involve randomness, it does involve unpredictable chance. For example, the origin of new genetic variation by mutation is a process that involves a great deal of chance," (Futuyma). Mutations are random and often times aren't even expressed in an organism's phenotype. For natural selection to occur first, a mutation must occur, the mutation cannot kill or maim the offspring, and that mutation must be beneficial to the species before it will begin to be selected for, and therefore change the species. In this theory, all groups of H. erectus must have experienced similar mutations and similar natural pressures to select for the mutations to evolve simultaneously in different places in the world. It must also be taken into account that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Homo Sapien Human Evolution Charles Darwin stated that the evolution of man would take not thousands of years but millions of years. In the case of the human species (Homo sapien) evolutionary theory posits that this has been the case. Human evolution begins with the primate lineage which also includes new and old world monkeys, and apes (Phelan, 2015). It is important to note that researchers have determined that the chimpanzee is the humans closest living relative. While, humans and chimpanzees have similar genetic and anatomical structure which signifies a close evolution relationship, it is also important to note the anatomical differences that distinguish Homo sapiens. Unlike chimpanzees, humans evolved toward bipedalism, grew larger brains and eventually became bigger in size (Phelan, 2015). As Darwin suggested human evolution has branched down for millions of years and thus has many significant events that result in the human beings that we are today. ... • 8. Essay on Neanderthals and Homo sapiens There is evidence to suggest that Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens had coexisted for approximately 35–40,000 years, (Fagan 2010) from around 60,000 years ago to 25,000 years ago when they finally went extinct (Gibbon 2001). Anthropologists are still uncertain what the cause of their extinction was. This paper will analyze three main theories of Neanderthal extinction. The first theory is the competition theory, which claims that the Homo sapiens and Neanderthals had to compete for resources, ultimately leading to their demise. The second theory I will discuss is the climate change theory, which claims that Homo sapiens lived while Neanderthals died because they were better adapted to the climate. Upon investigating the bones Schmerling did not recognize them as a distinct species (Sawyer et al. 2007).The first true Neanderthal was discovered in the Neander Valley, near Dusseldorf in 1856 by a group of miners who were blasting out a cave in the area. When the crew uncovered archaic bones they contacted a local schoolteacher, Johann Karl Fuhlrott. Fuhlrott was the first to recognize the fossils as a new species. In 1864, William King in the Quarterly Journal of Science identified this new species as Homo neanderthalensis after the location of its unearthing (Sawyer et al. 2007). Dietary Differences The diets of Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens are very different. The diet of the Homo sapiens shows how they were learning to adapt better to their environment, while the Neanderthals were very set in how they gathered food. Studies of nitrogen preserved in the bones of Neanderthals have shown that they consumed a substantial quantity of meat; "comparable to that eaten by contemporary wolves" (Delson et. al 2006). The current interpretation of the Neanderthal diet is that they "were most likely hunters rather than scavengers" (Delson et. al 2006). It was once thought that the Neanderthal diet was comprised mainly of meat due plant life being seasonal in the cold climate they inhabited. • 9. Is Symbolic Language The Defining Features Of Homo Sapiens? Is symbolic language the defining feature of Homo sapiens? By: Heidi Hakala Friday 10th of June, 2016 What makes us unique? What makes us human? These are complex questions to which humans have struggled to find an adequate answer, even after the course of hundreds of years. I personally believe there are many reasons and factors as to why humans today are in control of the planet, with the most defining feature of our species being collective learning, empowered by the creation of symbolic language. Humans are undoubtedly intelligent creatures with complex minds and remarkable mass cooperation abilities. As Harari (2015) stated: "Humans control the planet, because they are the only animals that can cooperate both flexibly and in very large numbers". Alternatively, some may argue other intelligent species, such as dolphins or chimpanzees also possess the ability to express views and opinions, having language very similar to ours; however, what makes human language so unique is its variety and complexity. As cleverly described by Jason Goldman (2012): "Whales sing, monkeys howl, birds chirp. Lizards bob their heads up and down to communicate, and some squid do it by regulating the coloration of their skin cells. But none of these processes can be explained by language." The distinctiveness of human language is not defined by how it allows individuals to communicate with each other, but instead, the infinite variety that follows. While other species communicate to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Homo Sapiens Research Paper There's no doubt there are still many uncertainties in understanding the origins of moderns humans. Most of the data we have available to answer our most burning evolution question come from the success of archaeological techniques. But due to the nature of archaeology and the ruthlessness of taphonomic process, there are still gaps in the archaeological record. So when it comes to answering the bigger questions of where did Homo sapiens originated and how it becomes very difficult to make proper conclusions. Some of the major issues we have to deal with are the smaller temporal focus and the fact that Homo sapiens have a wide geographic distribution, so there's a lot of ground to be covered when making conclusions. By look at MtDNA anthropologist hoped to find different and similar DNA types that will lead them to ancestor. They determined that the MtDNA in modern humans can be track back all the way to a single woman. (Lewin 2004) This woman was given the flashy and misleading name of Mitochondrial Eve as her DNA has been only preserved through a linage that consistency produces female offspring to pass on her DNA. Through the analysis of DNA we can also see the genetic diversity of our species. Most animal populations have wide pool of genetic diversity, but humans are different is actually having a very narrow gene pool. Human has one tenth of genetic variation of other apes. (Lewin 2004) By using a mathematical method that can track the mutation rate across DNA of modern human, the lack of variation suggest that H. sapiens evolved very recently within the last 280,000 years. (Lewin 2004) This explanation would support the recent African origin as it clearly put a fairly recent date on the appearance of H. sapiens. Despite this explanation, there is also the possibly of a bottle neck event occurring early on in human history. A bottleneck event occurs when the genetic variation of a species is greatly reduced due a causes like a massive wide spread deaths, and despite the massive reduction the species can still live and on flourish. A bottleneck event could have occurred during the Multiregional origin, because history shown causes like wide spread diseases could enough force to reduce the gene pool. Inserting food into the mouth to begin the process, which will eventually expel the unusable waste material out of the body at the anus. In the mouth several structures act simultaneously to start digestion and is composed of two portions. The buccal cavity, the space in front of the teeth bounded to the cheek and gums; and the oral cavity proper the space inside the teeth. The enamel covered dentin are used to chew, breaking down the food into smaller pieces. The tongue and salivary glands play a role during chewing as well. The tongue is an organ that helps to manipulate the food in the mouth. In the surface epithelium of the tongue are taste buds which allow for the identification of the chemical properties of food(sweet, salty, bitter, sour, and umami). The parotid gland secretes serous, sublingual gland secretes mucus and the submandibular secretes both serous and mucus. Together this solution is the saliva. The saliva contains many proteins such as DNAse, RNAse, amylase, lipase and lysozyme. These aid the tongue and teeth in manipulation of food into a bolus before the epiglottis directs it into the oropharynx. The pharynx is the first part of the throat. It is also an air passageway, but the epiglottis prevents the bolus from entering this passage. The muscles of the pharynx then push the bolus into the esophagus. Subsequently this ... • 13. Homo Sapiens: Surviving In Different Environments Throughout the Paleolithic area, homo sapiens were able to successfully disperse throughout six continents and settle down in different environments. Their survival was due to the development of various tools, the change in physical structure of humans, and gains in socialization. In the beginning of the Paleolithic Era, there were major gains in tools necessary for survival. Different hunting tools were established; this included spears, hooks, axes etc. Along with the tools came available methods of hunting, which overall increased food consumption and ultimately survival. Barbed fish tools allowed hunters to catch fish large enough to feed numerous people. Spears were created to hunt flying or quickly moving animals, otherwise difficult to catch. Larger axes and knives were made and allowed for hunters to kill large animals for food and also to protect themselves from the dangerous predators. The various available methods of hunting were detrimental to surviving within different environments. Geographical regions differed in prey, and in some places hunters had to catch fish or birds, and in others they would hunt large animals. Homo sapiens different characteristics such as larger brain, different size of canines, and material cultural as in tool use have all helped them evolve, but in their own unique way. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain of Homo sapiens have been proven to be much larger than that of primates. (Armstrong, Falk 2012: 237) Anatomically, modern humans nowadays can generally be characterized by the lighter build of their skeletons compared to earlier humans in the past. Modern humans have very large brains, which vary in size from population to population and between males and females, but the average size is approximately 1300 cubic centimeters in contrast to some primates such as chimpanzees whose brain size averages from 275– 500 cubic centimeters. Most of this brain–size difference reflects the evolutionary expansion of the association cortex, a group of regions that supports such mental functions as language, self–awareness, and problem solving. As a result modern humans have spread to every continent and vastly expanded their numbers. They have altered the world in ways that benefit them greatly as in rapidly adjusting to such things like climate change and new environments. Homo sapiens must remain in the care of their parents for much longer than other living primates. Homo sapiens stay in their parents care for over 18 years, until adulthood. In contrast to the Old World Monkeys, they stay with their parents for about 4–5 years. This is typically because their parents conceive children every year. The question then becomes, why would the children of homo sapiens remain with their parents for such a long period of time? It might make more evolutionary sense to grow up rapidly to have more offspring and to be independent, but it is in those 18 years that crucial knowledge is gained. The explanation may be our large brains which presumably require a long time to grow and learn. Certain aspects of survival and life are usually learned through parents and with the aid of their knowledge, we are able to learn how to adapt to our social environments. Homo Sapiens Research Paper Homo sapiens, or "consciously thinking human", evolved 25,000 years ago forming an unprecedented presence in the environment and the efficient exploitation of the environment. Physiological structural advantages aided the Homo sapiens in taking the upper hand over other species. A fundamental difference in the brain structure of the Homo sapiens was a well–developed frontal region where conscious and reflective thought takes place. Intelligence is the sharp edge of survival for these hominids because physically they are not endowed with great strength or natural means of defense which battle natural selection in the animal kingdom. Change in physiognomy such as upright walking posture with opposable thumbs freed the hands from the task of locomotion and was instead applied for the creation of higher sophisticated tools. The homo erectus group also appeared to have a hierarchical system, where some members were ranked higher or lower than each other, according to status/authority. When it comes to the homo erectus group, they tend to live in a more equal society. For instance, in the movie, the homo sapien women actually have choice in what they do. While the homo erectus men would just rape women, going against the women's desires, the homo sapiens had a sense of intimacy. Homo sapiens often used sex as a way to bond with their partner, and in most cases, it actually meant something. In the movie, it appears that both partners provided consent when two homo sapiens were having sex, which was not the case for the homo erectus members. Another thing that differentiates the homo sapiens and the homo erectus is that the homo erectus community in the movie had a lot of taboos, while the homo sapiens had less of a tendency to instigate conflict. In the homo erectus community there were many social prohibitions, and several actions that were declared as sacred and forbidden. If you were to break one of these taboos, you would most likely be looked down upon, and be considered abhorrent to others. These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay fever, asthma, eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as allergic disorders. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is even higher than in the general population with 40–50% of children susceptible to one or more type of allergy (Pawankar et al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the developed world for over 50 years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can often take years to find a completely effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can severely disrupt everyday life. What gave Homo sapiens such an advantage? Homo sapiens are special in a cognitive sense, and the only major evolutionary advantage they have been given is able brains. Humans are intellectually driven– we want to learn things. They have more inventive ability than any other living creature. They enjoy expression and explaining things to those around us. In fact, Homo sapiens think so big and so inventively that human bodies have had to change to fit their ability to think and to create. Humans have learned so much over the course of our 200,000 year existence, and we continue to strive for knowledge. First, an innate craving for understanding is an important trait unique to humans. It is remarkable that Homo sapiens take time to just try and figure things out. This is something that has been apparent throughout the entirety of humans' existence, and still is today. We try to conceive a way to make tasks easier, and we understand that the only method by which this can be done is to first have a total understanding of the mechanics of things. This desire for comprehension is reflected in humans' gradual exodus from Africa. The most popular theory is that humans left Africa solely because they were instinctively curious about what lies beyond the environment they have become accustomed to (NOVA, episode 2). Homo Sapiens by Yuval Harari explored the various ways that homo sapiens have evolved, both good and bad. Harari identifies the trademark events in history that catapulted homo sapiens into the fast track adaptation that we had. Because of the agricultural, cognitive, and industrial revolution, homo sapiens were able to change how we see individual potential. Not only did homo sapiens evolve as a whole, but these revolutions allowed for individual strive and determination. The readings on ethics allowed for an insightful view into how cultures interact with each other and how relationships can be affected, both positively and negatively. Finally, the showing of The Hunger Games touched on dystopias and how they make for a division in society. The Hunger Games showed how imagined orders are able to take charge and manipulate the members in a community. The first question raised in the syllabus is, what is the difference between surviving and thriving? At the beginning of this class, I would have answered this question very differently. Prior to the knowledge that I now have, I would have said that they are pretty much one in the same. However, Homo Sapiens especially has proven how different these two states of emotion are. For example, Harari brought up the issue of factory raised animals and how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

• 27. What Are Homo Sapiens? What are Homo sapiens? Homo sapiens are the only existing human species left on earth evolving since about 160,000 year ago. Homo sapiens is the complete modern humans Homo is the human genus. Which also includes Homo erectus and Neanderthals plus many other extinct species of hominid family. According to "most Paleoanthropologists agree that Homo erectus evolved into Homo sapiens." (171). The Paleolithic period is a big part of human evolution, it is broken up into three different measures lower, middle, and upper. The lower period went back about 100,000 to 500,000 years ago. Homo erectus were the first species that made stone tools by hand for survival purposes. Paleolithic period (2015) "Stone tools of this period are of the core type, made by chipping the stone to form a cutting edge, or of the flake type, fashioned from fragments struck off a stone. Hand axes were the typical tool of these early hunters and food–gatherers." Without these tools living for Homo erectus would have been almost impossible, the species could have gone extinct earlier. Hunting was a big part of life for these species. Next is the middle Paleolithic period which includes the Mousterian culture, this cultural is linked with the Neanderthal species which is also an early form of humans. • 28. Neanderthal Vs Homo Sapien Theory Where did we come from? This question has plagued us as a species since our conception and it has been the pinnacle of humanity to discover what we are and how we came to be. Through the use of modern science and our understanding of evolution, we are closer to determining how our species evolved than we have ever been before. Our closest hominid relative, the Neanderthal, is one such link to our past that we study to understand how we came to be. In studying this species, it brings about questions that have puzzle scientist in recent years. These are questions that delve deeper into the differences and similarities between Homo sapiens and Neanderthals. Many modern humans migrated out of Africa around 125,000 to 60,000 years ago leaving behind what are now modern Africans in the continent. Those who migrated out of Africa dispersed over time, colonizing much of Europe and Asia. This theory is known as the Out of Africa Theory (Stringer, 2000). One interesting discovery that scientists have debated in recent years is over the findings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With our evidence from fossil records and DNA analysis of both our species, it is clear that our species, Homo sapiens, which evolved and have common ancestry with Neanderthals, migrated out of Africa and dispersed across the continent, and some coupled with the native species and shared some traits that would help us in our quest to survive. And perhaps in the future with new technologies we might learn even more about how humans evolved and our interaction with Neanderthals. After all, what makes us human is the ultimate question we strive to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Close Kin Relationships Among Homo Sapiens It is commonly accepted that the population size of Homo sapiens was small in the beginning, with such a limited number and scattered population due to the existence of hunter–gatherers, a significant level of inbreeding would have been inevitable, almost indefinitely involving multiple kin relationships. These unions continued during the following slow population growth of human groups living mainly in rural settlements, with bottlenecks caused by periodic epidemics, famines, and warfare. During the mid 19th–century in Europe and North America first–cousin marriage remained socially accepted and widely favored, especially among more privileged classes. • 31. Evolution Of Homo Sapiens The study on the evolution of human beings often presents many challenges. One of the main challenges is the limited evidence and the constant emergence of new forms of evidence. From time to time, scientists encounter the challenge of naming the fossils and putting them into their appropriate group of species. This paper is going to be discussing the Homo erectus, Homo Heidelbergensis, and Archaic Homo sapiens. The paper will make comparative analysis of the individual species and point out why they deserve to be categorized as distinct species instead of a one species that has different characteristics due to geographical differences. Homo Heidelbergensis approximately lived about 600,000 years ago. This simply means the Heidelberg Man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three types should indeed be categorized as different species. However, there are other times when some differences should be considered a result of geographic differences. This applies for instance in the case of Homo Erectus and Homo ergaster, proving the words of scientist that the two have such a close similarity during the time of existence. The other species that that could be confusing and be presented as the same species of the pre– modern man is Ancient Homo sapiens and Homo Erectus. • 32. Homo Sapiens: DNAAnalysis Science and math allows for a new world of possibility. Intertwine the two, and we can see the world through a new, logical lens. For example, through DNA analysis and extensive research, science reveals the ancestors of mankind and provides solid evidence that all homo sapiens are related– a task once thought impossible. Apply the Transitive Law of mathematics and the result is: "If all organisms in the species are the same, and the group of organisms belonging to Homo sapiens are a species, then all Homo sapiens should be the same." However, this isn't the case. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case, distorted perception is the root cause of discrimination. While it is impossible to completely change every person's perception of various individuals and/or groups, a starting point would be to expose these people with strong biases to the stories of others. For example, the United Nations (U.N.) runs a website which allows various people from around the world to record their stories. Made public, these stories can then be read by readers from other nations. Through websites as such, readers will hopefully gain a new sense of empathy and understanding towards victims of racial and religious discrimination. In turn, the newly–gained sense of understanding will eventually allow people with previous biases to rethink their prejudices. The same idea works for those who didn't have biases to begin with. Instead of spurring them to rethink their prejudices, these stories will hopefully help them learn of the importance and impact of racial and religious discrimination. The end result is the same: there will be less stigmatization between different skin colors and religions. Although the final goal sounds fulfilling, all of this is very theoretical. None of the aspirations are guarantees, making this not the perfect solution. • 33. Why Did Homo Sapiens Survive? When you look around, there is no denying that we all have a resemblance to each other. There are many things that could explain this, but the most looked into is that we have a common ancestor, and there is proof to back it up. With that proof also come questions like Why are there so many different species? And Why did only homo sapiens survive? Many ask, what is a common ancestor? A common ancestor would be an ape like creature which the apes and early hominids must have breeded with in order to create different species of "humans". Once the early apes breeded with it, they produced a different animal which evolutionized to be modern aps. Once early hominids breeded with it, they produced an animal which branched out to eventually leave homo sapiens roaming and later dominating the earth. This theory doesn't stand alone, there is a great variety of fossil evidence to back it up. The theory of a common ancestor has plenty of fossil evidence to back it up. Throughout the years fossils from different human ancestors from different ages have been found. In 1856, the fossils of neanderthals were found. Neanderthals lived from 200,000 to 300,000 years ago, they had a big brain made of 1400 cc's, they were social, big creatures that learned to use and make tools and made cave art. Neanderthals also buried their dead, like modern day humans. In 1892, the fossils of homo erectus were found. Homo erectus lived about 1.8 million years ago. They had a brain of 600 to ... For many, these people may include romantic partners, family, friends, co– workers, and classmates, among others. However, as a result of this need for acceptance, many individuals may be afraid to reveal secrets in fear of being rejected by those who matter most to them. For example, in Becky Albertalli's Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, readers follow sixteen–year–old Simon Spier as he attempts to prevent the fact that he is gay from becoming public knowledge at the hands of a blackmailer. Despite his efforts, Simon's secret is forcibly revealed, and he must brace himself for the unpredictable reactions from everyone he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it may seem like everyone is involved in everyone else's life in high school, this is not the case, for Simon notes that his group of friends have their own little world. For example, this can be seen when Simon describes the scene at his lunch table whenever it is someone's birthday: "There's a massive sheet cake at lunch, and when I get to the table, everyone is wearing party hats. That's the tradition. No one gets cake without the hat" (Albertalli 82). Simon goes on to state that, while they may receive peculiar looks, some classmates try to join in on the fun just to obtain a piece of cake. This shows that it is illogical to think that everyone is focused on every little detail about every other person, since groups of friends in high schools can have their own quirky traditions without being ostracized. However, despite all of this, the possibility of backlash from classmates isn't something to rule out. While it is unlikely that every single person will go out of their way to harass Simon, it is also illogical to think that everyone will accept him as well. As previously mentioned, Simon lives in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, which is an area not necessarily known for its liberal views. This can be seen when Simon states, "At school, there are one or two guys who are out, and people definitely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Homo Sapiens Essay Homo sapiens were a potent factor on eliminating the remaining Neanderthal population due to their intelligence (Echoes). Researchers of Oxford University that compared the skulls of 32 Homo sapiens and 13 Neanderthals concluded that the Neanderthals had significantly larger eye sockets. Explanation: Although the Neanderthals and Homo sapiens had similar brain sizes, the larger eyes of the Neanderthals were an adaptation to the long, dark nights of Europe which would have required large visual processing areas in the brain. In addition, the Neanderthals also had massive bodies which would have required more brain cells to control their physique, thus they had less brain power available to them compared with the Homo sapiens. Neanderthals had physical features that helped them survive cold climates, including large noses to humidify and warm dry, cold air and short, stout bodies to ... Recent studies suggests that more than 60 cubic miles of ash were blasted into the atmosphere and covered a vast area of eastern Europe, North Africa and western Asia. Vast plumes of ash would have blotted out the sun for months, or possibly years, and caused temperatures to plummet. Sulphur dioxide, fluoride and chloride emissions would have generated intense falls of acid rain. Explanation: Since the Neanderthals did not have up–to–date primitive technologies like their counterparts, they were more susceptible to the negative impacts of the eruption. For example, the sudden drops in temperatures following the eruption would have led many Neanderthals to freeze to death, and during those dreary years, the blotting of the sun would have led to a dramatic decrease in plant life, which would have led to a scarcity of prey, such as deer, and in turn affect the Neanderthal population as there would have been an insufficiency of food for them due to their outdated weapons and hunting ... • 37. A Natural History Of The Homo Sapien A Natural History of the HOMO SAPIEN 160,000 years ago, a new species was born. Today, I am excited to say that I am a part of that species; we all are. In fact, there are approximately 7 billion of us on this planet; Homo sapiens, that is who we are. We evolved in Africa and like many other early humans that were living at this time, we gathered and hunted food. But as time went on, we evolved, as to better suit our forever changing environment. Humans have the capacity to adapt to any given situation and over time our behaviors change, as to better suit said situation. Our behaviors is what allows us to challenge our environment in any unstable circumstance and come out on the other side. After all, we are just trying to survive. Classification– Classifying an organism is no easy task. In order to classify an organism, we must use a hierarchical system. The hierarchical system was invented by Carolus Linnaeus and includes many aspects, such as an organisms kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and lastly, species. So technically, species is what the organism is; is is it 's classification. You see, there are different ways in which we define a species. In the case of the Homo sapien, species is a "sexually reproducing organism" which in other words allows other members of said species to reproduce amongst themselves creating viable offspring that can do the same. Although we call the Homo sapien a 'human ', the more scientific term is whom we really are. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. How Did The Homo Sapiens Outlive The Neanderthals? The Homo Sapiens or ancient running men survived over the Neanderthals, because they were better adapted to the changing climate and hunted more effectively and efficiently. Neanderthals were a much stronger species with a much higher brain capacity, yet somehow the weaker Homo sapiens survived longer than them. They were "the mighty hunters [humans] like to imagine [we] once were; they stood shoulder to shoulder in battle, a united front of brains and bravery" (Mcdougall, 41). The thing that enabled Homo sapiens to conquer the feat of outliving a far superior species was the idea of persistence hunting, along with the disappearance of the Neanderthals. Persistence hunting, enabled them to get meat which in turn developed their brains to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two theories as to how the Neanderthals died, the first is that humans are the culprit, the second is that it was caused by natural factors such as disease or climate change. The first theory is built on the belief that Homo Sapiens had a greater talent for tool creation and social innovation. The story is that Homo sapiens had hunted all of the Neanderthals food, and took away many of their vital resources, driving them into the deep jungle. The second theory is that Homo sapiens had nothing to do with it and that the Neanderthals were driven into the deep jungle by the warming climate, diseases or another natural reason. Most people believe that "about forty–five thousand years ago...the hot front moved in [and] the forests shrank, leaving behind parched grasslands stretching to the horizon. [The new land] was great for the running men [because], the antelope [population] exploded and [many] plump roots were [growing] all over the savannah, [but] the Neanderthals [struggled], their long spears and ambushes were useless against the fleet of prairie creatures, and the big game they preferred were retreating deeper into the [small] forests" (Mcdougall, 42). Due to the Neanderthals large size they couldn't adopt the running mans style of hunting, so to get a reliable source of food they followed the large game into the forests. One other option as to the culprit of the neanderthals demise is the eruption of the Campi Flegrei volcano west of Naples 39,000 years ago. More than 60 cubic miles of ash were blasted into the atmosphere and covered a vast area of eastern Europe, North Africa and western Asia. • 39. The Anatomy of Homo Sapiens is Unique The anatomy of Homo sapiens is unique in several ways and sets us apart from other species all across the world. One of the most distinguishing characteristics that differentiates Homo sapiens from other species is the utilization of bipedal locomotion. Humans have established a unique way of moving from one location to another that is due to the evolution numerous anatomical developments over millions of years. Hominid bipedalism has evolved as a product of natural selection, a theory coined by Charles Darwin in 1859. This theory of evolution through the process of natural selection explains that some organisms are more reproductively fit than others. Therefore, these organisms are able to pass on their beneficial genes to the next generation. Essentially, traits that give certain organisms specific advantages, such as bipedalism in hominids, will be selected for in greater numbers, and therefore more individuals in the succeeding populations will display these beneficial traits (Darwin 1859). Darwin's theory can be used to help describe the central idea behind the fascinating transformation process from quadrupedalism to bipedalism. One of the most intriguing aspects surrounding this topic is the multiple different hypotheses for the evolution from quadrupedal gait to bipedal locomotion. Due to the fact that evidence suggests that the emergence of bipedalism occurred as early as 6 millions years ago, there have been many hyptotheses as to how the earliest hominids ...
