Literacy - Students will participatein Literacy groups where they will read books attheir readinglevel and work on
comprehension, phonemic awareness and other readingskills.Students will continueto learn personal spellingwords. The
writingfocus for the term will revolvearound the ‘All Mixed Up’ and ‘Local Places’ units.Students will display their
understandingthrough the creation of informativetexts (explanations,information reports,procedures,fa ctual descriptions).
Much of the grammar that will be taught this term centres on the types of grammar needed to write various texts related to
these themes.
Homework and Talk topics – Attached to this overview is the listof Talk Topics and the Project for Term 1. Whilewe encourage
all students to participatein these programs,they are not compulsory.Pleasesupportyour child to complete as many as you are
ableto and let the classroomteacher know if you were unableto complete the tasks.

COGS – Through the Connected Outcomes Group (COGS) unit ‘Local Places’, students will exploreour relationship with the
natural,builtand heritage environments in our local area and beyond and consider howwe interactwith, modify, and find our
way around our local environment.
Students will beengaged in :
• identifying,respondingto and recordingnatural,builtand heritagefeatures of the local environment
• developing a safety message for being safein the local environment
• planningand makinga model of the school
• mappingsignificantfeatures in the local area.
Science – Students will beinvestigating sound through the Primary Connections unit, ‘All Mixed Up’. The All Mixed Up unitis an
ideal way to link sciencewith literacy in the classroom.The unit provides the opportunity for students to learn aboutmaterials
thatdon'tmix well,and othersthataredifficultto separate.Through hands-on investigations,studentsexplorehowchangingthe
quantities of materialsina mixturecanalter itspropertiesand uses.
How can you help this term? There are a variety of ways you can help support your child’s learningthis term:
