A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

1. Homework
This year your child will have homework. This is mainly for supporting & enriching the
classroom experience, but also for you to see what we have been working on in class.
Math: Students will complete a lesson in class and will take home a practice
sheet to complete and return to school the next day. We will use the last 15
minutes of the day to get a head start on this homework, which means your
child may not have any homework. Please check the math page over with
your child, initial the page and return to school.
Reading: Your child needs to read be reading 20-30 minutes daily or about 8
hours a month. There will be no chart to keep record. Instead, we will keep
track of reading habits through our AR program. If your child is reading
shorter picture books, he/she should take an AR quiz daily. If your child is
reading longer chapter books, he/she may be testing every other day or
weekly.
Spelling: There are spelling words focusing on a particular phonics sound or
pattern each reading unit. Monday, I will give a pretest. If your child has less
than 80%, he/she will need to practice the spelling words using activities off
of a spelling contract. If your child has 80% or better, he/she will receive a
challenge list. All students will test again on Friday. A spelling contract has
different activities for you and your child to practice spelling words. Please
choose activities that help your child learn the spelling pattern. The contract
is a tool to help and will not need to be turned in, unless your child
consistently is below 80% on the final tests.
Writing Notebook: Each child will have a notebook that is sent home every
other week. There are directions inside this journal explaining how to use it.
Social Studies/Science: Students may have review sheets over lessons or
units completed in class as a quick check. These will need to be completed at
home and returned the following day. They may also have projects that could
require some work or help from home.
Share: Students will need to come prepared to share something of their choice
on their assigned share day. This addresses our listening and speaking
standards. Students will need to share at least 3 pieces of information, speak
clearly, and with appropriate volume.
Other projects may be given after the school year begins. In some cases it
may be class work that was not completed by the student in class.
