The work for this week’s assignment is divided in four
sequential steps:
1. Prepare for the empathy work.
2. Go out and talk to people.
3. Process the data gathered via interviews using an
Empathy Map.
4. Craft a problem statement.
Stakeholder and need
(let´s call him “Huacho”)
• Huacho, a good
student, detail
oriented, risk taking, able
to work in teams and
goal oriented, needs a
reliable and available
source of employee
opportunities to choose
the best option.

What people feel
What Huacho says
• It´s difficult to find a job after school
• We had a lot of theory, but we need to know what happens
outside the school before we leave.
• It´s difficult to know what opportunities there are. Many
times we have to rely on our classmates or friends contacts.
• I´d get angry if I knew there was a good opportunity near
me, and I did not know about it.
• We have to be where there´s a job, no matter the state or
country.
• Sometimes, when you see a job on the newspaper or in a
website, you call or go to the enterprise and know there´s
someone been hired.
What Huacho says
• It´s bad that the information is scarce, not complete or not
updated. You have to be guessing what the ads were trying to
communicate.
• How to know if the job offer is serious?
• I´d like to know the salary and conditions they are
offering, but that information is usually absent. You have to
call.
• It would be good to be able to compare options even before
calling or going to the job source.
• The information in ads is general. You have to call or send a
résumé, and sometimes there´s no answer.
• Some of my friends were disappointed because what they got
was not what they thought when they were hired.
What Huacho was doing
• While talking, he was marking ads in a newspaper, checking in
a website and reviewing messages from contacts in Facebook
or messages.
What Huacho thinks
• He thinks it´s difficult to find a job.
• No matter if you were a good student…the opportunity relies
on your ability for contacting the correct person at the correct
time.
• You can not rely just on the ads in the papers or websites.
• There´s a need for having complete and reliable
information, at hand reach, about job opportunities, for not
wasting time and efforts.
• You could waste your potential because you don´t find
somewhere to use your competencies.
• Some friends, who were not good students, sometimes get
better jobs.
What Huacho feels
• It´s not fair.
• As things are now, not good
students, but with ability to
communicate and move, could get
better jobs…even when they do
not last longer in them.
• Having a good job is more a
matter of luck than competencies.
• You have to be guessing for finding
a good job.
• Having an interesting and well
paid job is like a dream.
Problem and insight:
Huacho needs an available, reliable, friendly
and inexpensive source for finding employee
opportunities, with enough information for
choosing the best option because the existing
sources now are not updated, with incomplete
information and there´s no way to know about
a vacancy in the moment it is generated.
