HOLY MOTHER, HEALER OF THE PEASANTRY
(The Queen Mother of the English)
The “Queen Virgin Mary & King Child Jesus Christ of the Holy Royal Family” became a
favorite Marian devotion among (Marian English) Roman Catholics, before the
“Reformation” in the 1500s.
The following are stories of Marian apparitions related to the “Virgin Mary & Child Jesus
Christ of the Holy Family”:
FINDING THE “HEALED MARIAN MEN”
A story, related by John Brame (a Christian monk of Thetford), found in a manuscript
preserved in Corpus Christi College (Cambridge), says that in the town, a poor workman
who called upon Blessed Virgin Mary for relief from an incurable disease from which he
suffered.
Then, one night, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him, telling him that if he would be
cured, he must hasten to the priest of her monastery, and command him in her name to
build her a Marian chapel.
But because the man paid no attention to the message, she again appeared to him thrice,
whereupon he went to the priest, who, being much astonished his cure, was resolved to
obey the command, and so he built the Marian chapel made of wood.
FINDING THE “HEALED MARIAN WOMEN”
“Our Lady” (Virgin Mary) had appeared in like manner to an English woman in the town.
She bade her go to one of the Christian monks, and command him to bid the priest to
build the Marian chapel at once.
But the woman neglected to fulfill the request, whereupon the Blessed Virgin Mary came
to her in the night.
And after reminding her many times of her neglect, that at the same time touching her
arm, immediately she couldn’t move it.
In fear, perceiving the event that she should truly awaken that the apparition was true,
and grieving for her negligence, she ran to the Christian monk, and told him what had
happened with many tears.
He advised her to ask help to the Holy Virgin Mary, and then her arm was restored, then
a Marian chapel was at last built.
