1. This document provides emergency therapy guidelines for malignant hyperthermia (MH), including signs and symptoms of MH, acute phase treatment with dantrolene, and post acute phase care.
2. The acute phase treatment involves discontinuing triggers, hyperventilating with oxygen, administering dantrolene rapidly through IV, treating acidosis and hyperkalemia, and cooling the patient.
3. Post acute phase care includes observing the patient in the ICU for at least 24 hours to monitor for recurrence, following urine myoglobin and instituting therapy to prevent renal damage from myoglobin precipitation.
