Dialogue writing
• The dialogue literally means, 'Conversation normally between two or more
people’.
• Dialogue writing helps us to easily express our ideas and thought.
• Proper dialogue writing is a skill or command over the language.
• There are two situation of dialogue writing first is ‘Formal’ second is
‘Informal’
•Procedure of writing a dialogue •
• Normally dialogue writing contains the following major steps:-
1. Greetings:-The language of the dialogue will depending on whether the situation
is formal or informal; with a known or unknown person.
Beginning of the dialogue has to be with greetings. Greet the other person according
to the time of the day.
i] In formal situations use terms like, ‘good morning, good afternoon, good evening’.
ii] In formal situations words like, ‘Hi, hello’ can be used .
2. Development of dialogue:-
• The dialogue should read like a spontaneous real conversation.
• Include questions with proper question mark, exclamations with proper
exclamation marks etc. So that the dialogue sounds real.
• Use correct words like,’ excuse me, sorry, thank you, please, etc. To
Show the polite enquiries and response.
3. Closing sentences:-
•Dialogue should end with proper sentences, depending on whether the
situation is formal or informal. e.g. Bye, good night, good morning,
take care ,etc.
•In informal situation use words/sentences as: Take care, see you soon,
bye, etc.
•In formal situation use the words like, ‘good day, have a nice day, thank you very
much for your help. It was pleasure talking to you, etc.
•Formal dialogue•
⚫Where the formal dialogue is use?
• Formal Dialogue:- It happens when there is a conversation between two
Individuals who are strangers or have no existing friendship or familiar bond
in situations that require a higher level of formality, more structured patterns
of behavior are typically observed, the speakers follow an implicit protocol
that governs the sequence and flow of the conversation for instancein.
• In job interview we also use formal dialogue.
•Informal dialogue •
⚫Where the informal dialogue is use ? using the informal dialogue?
• Informal dialogue:-It takes place between individuals who have a friendly
or intimate relationship and is usually informal and relaxed. For instance, a
chat between friends.
• A dialogue between friends, family, relative ,etc..
•How to write an effective dialogue?•
1. Select Situations for the dialogue form the real world.
2. Analyses the speaker to be a part of the dialogue.
3. Collected data/ideas related to the theme of the dialogue.
4. Arrange the ideas in of logical way.
5. Begin the dialogue with Proper greetings.
6. Keep in mind the addresses, the addressor and their relationship [formal/informal].
7. Avoid to friendly expression like Hey… Buddy… Dude… Baby … etc.
8. Make it coherent by arranging the thoughts logically and systematically.
9. Complex and lengthy sentences can make a dialogue difficult and dull.
10. Follow natural speech patterns to make the dialogue lively.
11. Interesting sentences and attractive beginning can fetch a good success.
