Safety
Created in 1793
Created to protect the Republic from
rebellion and attacks.
During the French Revolution it
supervised the military, the judicial
and legislative powers.
3. Maximilien Robespierre
He executed people very often and
had a list of people he would
execute, one day he had a list of the
people he was going to execute but
wouldn’t tell them who was on it, so
people got nervous if they were on
the list, therefore people grew
suspicious of him. Then executed
him.
4. Jean Paul Marat
Leader of Reign of Terror.
Partner of Robespierre.
He fought people who he thought
we enemies of the republic and
made him very popular.
Killed by Charlotte Corday which
only made him more popular.
5. Louis XVI
The last Bourbon King that ruled after his
execution.
While ruling France faced debt while he
was living extravagantly, the people weren’t
a fan of him because they felt that he
didn’t really care and was easily
persuaded.
France was very poor when he ruled, the
citizens were starved and he felt
6. Marie Antoinette
She married Louis XVI at a young and was
a very young Queen, making her naive and
unprepared to take the throne.
People didn’t like her because she didn’t
produce an heir for eight years and lived
very extravagant while they were living a
poor life.
Beheaded nine months after her husband
for “abusing” her son.
7. George Danton
First President of Committee of
Public Safety.
Ended the Girondists.
He was accused of misleading
government funds after was
executed.
8. Charlotte Corday
Killed Jean Marat thinking it would stop
the French Revolution but ended it up
making it worse.
She also believed it would end violence
and he threatening the Republic
At her trial she said, “I killed one man to
save 100,000”.
Four day after Marat was killed, she was
then executed.
