A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

12. High Points from ICR Videos: You may stream these from our class page. If you cannot do this, the ICR tells you when and where the videos will be broadcast.
13. High Points from the ICR Exams: The test schedule in the presentation was wrong. This is the correct schedule. Exam One Material: (Lessons 1-8) Exam Two Material: (Lessons 9-15) Exam Three Material: (Lessons 16-26)
14. High Points from ICR Exams cont. EXAMINATION MATERIAL Each exam will contain 55 objective questions of a multiple-choice nature. It will be graded as if there were only 50 so there is a possibility for extra credit on each test. All components of the course including video lessons, assigned readings, and study guide materials are important. Test questions will be taken from each course component. Be sure to study the practice test questions in your student course guide. I have been known to throw some of those on the tests.
26. All e-mail will be sent to the student's distance learning e-mail account (username@dl.tccd.edu). It is the student's responsibility to frequently check e-mail sent to that account. Students who fail to check e-mail on a regular basis risk missing important class announcements, instructions, and assignments. There are two ways to check e-mail:
27. use the Webmail link on the class web site to check for class e-mail;
29. All Internet faculty have committed to reading and responding to e-mail messages at least five days per week, typically within twenty-four hours. Please note, requests for assistance with technical issues should be directed to the Help Desk at help@dl.tccd.edu and not the course instructor.

31. What is expected of you! ITV History is a self directed and in some ways self paced class. Each student needs to check the ICR for lessons to be covered for each test. Each student should read the relevant chapters and do the lessons for each chapter from the course guide
32. What is expected of you (cont.) The objectives and questions you answer from the course guide will not be turned in to me. These are for your benefit!! You must report to campus on the day(s) testing is offered for each lesson. Tests must be taken on campus. If you cannot get to campus – this is not the course for you.
33. What is expected of you (cont.) Testing dates are set and students are expected to take the tests on the specified dates. Make up exams will given only in the most extreme cases. Please plan your schedule so that you take exams on the scheduled date!
34. What you can expect from me: I will hold office hours each week. These will be posted on the ICR. I will check email daily during the week. I will check email occasionally on the weekends. I will provide reviews for you for each test. Reviews will be posted on the discussion board.
35. What you can expect from me: I will answer questions and help you to understand the material to the best of my ability. I will make myself available prior to tests to be in the chat room or answer questions on the discussion board. I will post grades on the class page as quickly as possible.
36. Tips for History 1302 Read! Read! Read! Do the review questions at the end of each lesson. (No, I am not taking these from you – but you will benefit greatly from completing these) Define and explain the terms and concepts given to you in the review posted on the discussion board. Make sure you are using information from the lessons for each test – the concept may be discussed in multiple places
37. Tips for History 1302 (cont) Find a study group or study partner. Research shows you will know and remember 70-80% of what you talk about as opposed to 40-50% of what you read and write! If you don’t understand a lesson focus point– post it on the discussion board – your classmates will answer and I will make sure they are on target!
38. Good Luck I have not covered everything in the ICR – you are expected to read it and send questions if you have them. Good luck and I hope you do well in US History!
