Course & Instructor Policies
Make-up examinations will be granted only under special circumstances, such as in the
event of a family death or personal illness. Students are expected to contact the
instructor within 48 hours of missed exam to discuss reasons for missing and to schedule
make-up, if deemed appropriate. There will be no make-up examinations granted for the
final exam except in extreme circumstances that will need to be discussed with course
instructor. It will be up to the discretion of the instructor to determine if that
circumstance qualifies.

Late work may be accepted with a 10% point reduction if turned in within two days of the
due date. An additional deduction of 2 percentage points will be deducted everyday
thereafter until the coursework is turned in. If a student is aware they will be
unavailable on the day an assignment is due, it is the responsibility of the student to
contact the instructor to arrange a time to drop the coursework off BEFORE the due date
to avoid penalty.

Expectations- Students are expected to come to class on time and prepared for class.
Cell phones need to either be silenced, off, or placed on vibrate mode during the class. It
is expected that both the students and the instructor will create an environment of
respect. Brief commentary about something presented in class is expected and
appropriate. Extensive conversations and/or behavior that disrupts the learning
environment will not be accepted and may result in student(s) being excused from the
class. MP3 players may not be used once class begins, nor can they be used during
examinations.

Technical Support: If you experience any problems with your PSC account you may go to the office of
Computer Information Services (CIS), located in the AC Building (across from the bookstore) or call at
501-370-5336.

Academic Integrity: The faculty expects from its students a high level of responsibility and academic
honesty. Because the value of an academic degree depends upon the absolute integrity of the work done by

Course Syllabus Page 3
the student for that degree, it is imperative that a student demonstrate a high standard of individual honor in
his or her scholastic work.

Scholastic Dishonesty, any student who commits an act of scholastic dishonesty is subject to discipline.
Scholastic dishonesty includes but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, collusion, the submission for
credit of any work or materials that are attributable in whole or in part to another person, taking an
examination for another person, any act designed to give unfair advantage to a student or the attempt to
commit such acts.

Plagiarism, especially from the web, from portions of papers for other classes, and from any other source is
unacceptable and will be dealt with under the college’s policy on plagiarism (see general catalog for
details). This course will use the resources of turnitin.com, which searches the web for possible plagiarism
and is over 90% effective.

Withdrawal from Class: The administration of this institution has set deadlines for withdrawal of any
course (__________________2010). It is the student's responsibility to handle withdrawal requirements
from any class. A student must complete a “Withdrawal from Course” form in the Office of the Registrar.
The course will appear on the transcript with a grade of “W.” Students are expected to attend all classes as
scheduled. Unexcused absences from a class for a total exceeding the equivalent of three times the number
of class meetings per week will result in the student’s being withdrawn from that class by the instructor

Student Grievance Procedures: Procedures for student grievances are found in the 2009-2011 College
Catalog. Please review the process for “Appealing a Grade” for further information.

Incomplete Grade Policy: Incomplete Grades will not be given in this course except under
extreme circumstances that will need to be discussed with the instructor. It is up to the instructor
to determine whether the circumstances qualify as extreme and warrant assignment of an
incomplete grade.

**These descriptions and timelines are subject to change
at the discretion of the Professor.
