Test Analyst, Diligenta (formerly Friends Life), Exeter
(January 2007– July 2012)
Key responsibilities:
 Review project, requirement and process documentation to ensure they are appropriate for testing
 Oversee and define appropriate manual test cases (in Quality Centre) to be executed against the delivered
system releases and ensure the end deliverables meet the agreed quality criteria
 Set up test data manually throughout the test phase ensuring test cases are able to be executed
 Liaise with development and business analysts to appropriately test expected system behaviour, ensure the
test scripts meet the business analysts’ expectations
 Record any defects found (in Quality Centre) during the testing process, reviewing defects raised by the
team and providing input into the business to enable effective prioritisation
 Mentor and train other test resources and users from business units
 Provide support to the business areas during User Acceptance Testing and during the transition of test
phases
Projects worked on and achievements during my time in the above two testing roles:
 A large strategic integration program to move the various administration systems from the different
heritage companies onto a new single mainframe replacement with supporting Web Front End E-
commerce sites. I was involved with three different projects within this program:
 the acceptance testing of the new Web Front End sites for Corporate Pensions
 leading the regression testing of a book of business which had already migrated across
 leading / co-ordinating the testing by business experts and offshore system test team on
a re-platform and upgrade of a third party Finance system from the old mainframe to a
new UNIX infrastructure
 Pension Reforms –testing of the system changes required following the introduction of Full and Partial
Encashment. Testing had to be achieved within an extremely tight testing window due to the late
availability of the full guidelines from the HMRC. I designed and maintained a test schedule to plot the
full end to end journey and elapse time needed for our tests to accommodate the daily weekly and
monthly jobs required in order to ensure we could fit our tests into the test window. This was complex
but vital as it demonstrated that we only had one attempt available to achieve a couple of tests within the
window. I also allocated the work across the team according to the strengths of the four Test Analysts
involved. The careful planning and organising and team work resulted in the testing being completed in
time, against the odds.
 Auto Enrolment (AE) –testing of a new Auto Enrolment System and its links to existing E-Commerce
sites. I planned and executed the access management tests and also lead the testing of the outputs
strand. This was in the face of extremely tight deadlines in order to meet the statutory requirements,
complexity around the variable paragraphs and outputs required for the AE scenarios and involved
liaising with a third party print supplier.
 Business Verification Manager on Group Releases – co-ordinating the Business Verification on the
various projects that were included in each of the Group Releases by liaising with the Project Managers
and Test Leads.
 Fund Testing – acceptance testing of new funds and changes to existing funds on both the mainframe
and web front end, and the launch of a Fund Lifestyle Program and Lifetime Program options.
 Security System – acceptance testing of a new security system that controls the identity manager and
access management on logging in to the web front end applications. I co-ordinated the business testers
across numerous different teams and locations. I ended up becoming a Subject Matter Expert on this
system and was often needed to help people out across the company over the next few years even
though it was no longer part of my allocated projects.
 Launch of new pensions products – acceptance testing the Self Invested Personal Pension and the
Income Drawdown option.
I feel that every project I have worked on has been different and I have enjoyed the fact that this has resulted in
constantly learning new skills, systems, products or processes.
