4. For years women faced prejudice which prevented them from
participating in politics. They were told they could not vote
due to not fighting in wars, or that their husbands could vote
for them. However throughout the 1800s more and more
men won the right to vote. (Background)
There were different reasons that women eventually gained
the right to vote, including events during World War One
whilst both the Suffragettes and Suffragists also helped.
Political advantage had an influence with parties seeking to
gain women’s support. (Factors described)
Overall it is clear that the Suffragettes played an important
role, but a less significant one than World War One events.
