What if you could do serious good in your library through play?William Helman
The notion that the tools we use are neutral and unbiased has been questioned recently as we recognize that the design of our technology, our spaces, and our services all have the potential to reflect (mostly) unconscious biases that can perpetuate inequality and exclusion.
This workshop will explore this theme and give participants an opportunity to think about the unintended bias and inequity that has been designed into their own library. Through kinesthetic brainstorming, and play-based problem solving, we will begin building solutions to these problems to bring back to their home institution.

GAME ON! Integrating Games and Simulations in the Classroom
It is estimated that by the time that today’s youth enters adulthood that they will have played an average of 10,000 hours of video games. By playing games, research suggests that they have developed abilities related to creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Come explore the history of games and simulations in the classroom and investigate ways that current games and simulations in digital and non-digital formats can be meaningfully and purposefully integrated into your learning environment.

Word-of-mouth sells books, and it only happens when you do something outrageous (chat-worth) to entice readers to talk about it. Here are a number of ideas.

Educational trends point to a growing need for flexible learning tools that support anyplace, anytime learning. Recent advances in mobile computing present potential avenues for addressing this. Having explored current trends in location-based mobile learning, we will share three projects built on an easy-to-use, open-source augmented reality storytelling platform. The ARIS platform is a mobile application that layers multimedia onto physical locations, using a browser-based editor that allows users to "roll their own" place-based game, tour, or other mobile-based activity. Finally, we will facilitate a structured discussion and brainstorming activity to generate and share other place-based mobile ideas. (Presented at 2011 Educause Midwest Regional Conference 3-15-11). Are you new to the world of Ruby on Rails, trying to find a way to break in? Are you an experienced developer from the .NET or Java world trying to find a way to break out?
Two years ago, I was in a management role with a medical device company, moving slowly away from something I love, writing software. My experience was heavy on the embedded and desktop side, primarily in C#, with little web experience.
I loved TDD and agile, but didn't find much love for XP practices in those communities. I had heard a lot about how these ideas were valued in the Ruby community but how was I going to break in.
This talk will go into some of the things I did to gain a toehold. Along the way, we'll talk about fear, imposter syndrome, leveling up your skills, and getting involved in the community. We'll also talk about some of the roadblocks you will face and some unspoken, and not so unspoken, negative aspects of the industry.

“Informal Learning Using Augmented Reality Games”
How can augmented reality (AR) games played on smart phones extend informal educational opportunities? What challenges arise when you put digital learning experiences in typically low-tech environments? See what happened during recent pilot projects at zoos, nature centers and living history museums who used MIT STEP lab’s TaleBlazer AR platform.

Interactive Fiction and Game Design Using Inform7Douglas Kiang
Designing a good game involves sketching and storyboarding, storytelling and testing. Inform7 is a free tool that allows kids to create text-based adventure games using a programming language that is easy to learn and understand. Discover how we used Inform7 with fourth graders and high schoolers, implementing a game design framework modeled after the real world, to engage them in a rich design process that promoted deep learning and understanding.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

CEO & President of IDEO, a global design firm
“At IDEO, there’s a kind of back-to preschool feel sometimes about the
environment. The prototyping carts, filled with colored paper and Play-Doh
and glue sticks and stuff - I mean, they do have a bit of a kindergarten feel
to them...the sad thing is, although preschools are full of this kind of stuff,
as kids go through the school system, it all
gets taken away. They lose this stuff that
facilitates this sort of playful and building
mode of thinking. And, of course, by the
time you get to the average workplace,
maybe the best construction tool we have
might be the Post-it notes.”

5. Exploratory Play
• Play as a means of examining
many possibilities, not just
settling on the first one that
comes to mind
• Quantity first, quality later
• Telling the editor to shut up;
“defer judgement”
• What may seem wacky at first
may end up being brilliant
