Word-of-mouth sells books, and it only happens when you do something outrageous (chat-worth) to entice readers to talk about it. Here are a number of ideas.
3. Fierce Competition
U.S. 2011 all new titles/editions = 290,000
U.S. 2012 only self-published = 391,000
4. Traditional
Marketing
Spitting out the same old
marketing:
• News releases
• Brochures
• Articles
• Books
• Direct mail
• Web sites
• Social media
• Networking
5. Typical (worthwhile)
book marketing
o Postcards/bookmarks
o Readings/book signings
o Book expos
o Online promos (giveaways)
o Social media (Facebook,
blogs, Twitter, Pinterest)
o Share excerpts
o Talk shows
6. Cluttered Minds
How effective are these tools now?
We see up to 5,000 ad messages a day
(Yankelovich market research)
What makes you stand out?
8. Emotional Connection
For Song of the Ocarina:
• Wrote in Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
• Heroine’s iPod (music)
• Nerd fun (mythical/extinct
creatures, Fae world, magic)
• Dark Fae = burned-out
rock stars
• Noble Fae names from nature
• New Zealand setting
9.
10. Ask personal questions
to prompt ideas...
How do you spend
your free time?
What do you think is
cool?
Do you have a dog,
cat or exotic animal?
What offering can
educate and entertain?
Can you incorporate
other skills?

your free time?

Getting Yourself Ready for the PMP Exam
For most of us who haven’t been in an academic world for the last 10,20, or
30 years, preparing for the PMP Exam can be terrifying. Sometimes you just
have to put yourself in a different place and readjust your perspective. We
do that for ourselves through travel; we recently spent some time along the
central coast of California. Here is a picture to give you the idea.
Crashing Waves - Central Coast of California
You don’t have to leave town to get an “attitude adjustment” – you can do it
through music, meditation, hiking, walking or just going someplace new in
town. To help you get started, here are some Study Tips for getting yourself
ready for the PMP Exam.
