Heaven a future destination
Gen 1:1
1) In the beginningGod createdthe heaven and the earth.
God is not heaven or earth; God is the creator. God created two
things in this verse- heaven, and earth.
Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt
thou be with me in paradise.
This was a place he wouldbe (paradise). He was on earth but would
be in paradise later that day.
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and
receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Jesus was going somewhere to prepare a place for us, and He will
come and bringus to that place.
Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazingup into
heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so
come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
The place Jesus went was heaven (where he is preparinga place for
us). He will come in reverse order to take us to that place.
Acts 7:55-56 55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly
into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right
hand of God, 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son
of man standing on the right hand of God.
At Stevens death he saw where he was going: heaven, where Jesus is.
2Cor 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at
home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
If we are in this human body, we cannotbe present physicallywith
the Lord (we can be spiritually).
2Cor 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the
body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannottell: God knoweth;)
such an one caught up to the third heaven.
2Cor 12:4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard
unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
The throne room of God is the “third heaven”also calledparadise.
Phil 1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to
be with Christ; which is far better:
While Paul spiritual was seated in heaven (Eph 2:6) he had to wait to
depart this earthlybody to be with Christ.
1Thess 4:16-17 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with
a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and
the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in
the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Jesus is in heaven and one day will descend from heaven. When he
does the dead will rise and the livingwill follow. We are caught up
together (both the livingand dead) in the clouds, in the air to be with
the Lord. The dead that rise is only the empty body in the ground
(1Cor. 15:51-53) both the dead and livingbodies get a heavenly
makeover (changed) then ascendto heaven with Jesus.
2Thess 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord
Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
We know where he is now, and one day we will be gathered
“together” (not one at a time) unto him.
Heb 11:13-14 13 These all died in faith, not having received the
promises, but havingseen them afar off, and were persuadedof them, and
embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on
the earth. 14 For they that say such things declare plainlythat they seek a
country.
This earth is our pilgrimage our destination is a heavenlycountry.
Rev 14:12-13 12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep
the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. 13 And I heard a voice
from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in
the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from
their labours; and their works do follow them.
The “after-life”for a Christian is a place of rest and rewardfor works
done while on earth.
