Genesis is the first book and foundation for the rest of the Bible. This is the introduction to a series of PowerPoints that can be used for preaching or teaching the Book of Genesis. Download at www.BibleGuy.org
2. Genesis means beginning
Genesis is the Latin for beginning –
Origins
Genesis 1:1 (NET) In the beginning God
created the heavens and the earth.
3. Genesis – The Origin of:
The Universe (time, matter, energy)
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the
heavens and the earth.
Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the
worlds were set in order at God’s command,
so that the visible has its origin in the
invisible.
4. Genesis – The Origin of:
Order and Complexity
Genesis 1:2 Now the earth was without shape
and empty, and darkness was over the
surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of
God was moving over the surface of the
water.
5. Genesis – The Origin of:
Light, earth’s rotation, a measurement of time
Genesis 1:3-5 3
God said, “Let there be light.”
And there was light! 4
God saw that the light
was good, so God separated the light from
the darkness. 5
God called the light “day” and
the darkness “night.” There was evening,
and there was morning, marking the first
day.
6. Genesis – The Origin of:
Atmosphere and hydrosphere
Genesis 1:6-8 6
God said, “Let there be an
expanse in the midst of the waters and let it
separate water from water. 7
So God made
the expanse and separated the water under
the expanse from the water above it. It was
so. 8
God called the expanse “sky.” There
was evening, and there was morning, a
second day.
7. Genesis – The Origin of:
Life
Genesis 1:20-22 20
God said, “Let the water swarm with
swarms of living creatures and let birds fly above the
earth across the expanse of the sky.” 21
God created
the great sea creatures and every living and moving
thing with which the water swarmed, according to
their kinds, and every winged bird according to its
kind. God saw that it was good. 22
God blessed them
and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the water in
the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”
8. Genesis – The Origin of:
Mankind
Genesis 1:26-27 26
Then God said, “Let us make
humankind in our image, after our likeness, so they
may rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the
air, over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over
all the creatures that move on the earth.” 27
God
created humankind in his own image, in the image
of God he created them, male and female he
created them.
9. Genesis – The Origin of:
Marriage
Genesis 2:21-24 (NET) 21
So the Lord God caused the
man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he was
asleep, he took part of the man’s side and closed up
the place with flesh. 22
Then the Lord God made a
woman from the part he had taken out of the man,
and he brought her to the man. 23
Then the man said,
“This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of
my flesh; this one will be called ‘woman,’ for she
was taken out of man.” 24
That is why a man leaves
his father and mother and unites with his wife, and
they become a new family.
10. Genesis – The Origin of:
Sin and death
Genesis 3:6-7 6
When the woman saw that the tree
produced fruit that was good for food, was attractive
to the eye, and was desirable for making one wise,
she took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave
some of it to her husband who was with her, and he
ate it. 7
Then the eyes of both of them opened, and
they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig
leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
11. Genesis – The Origin of:
Family feuds and murder
Genesis 4:8 Cain said to his brother Abel,
“Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in
the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and
killed him.
12. Genesis – The Origin of:
Nations – from the three sons of Noah
Gen. 10
13. Genesis – The Origin of:
Language and the division of the nations
Genesis 11:6-9 6
And the Lord said, “If as one people
all sharing a common language they have begun to
do this, then nothing they plan to do will be beyond
them. 7
Come, let’s go down and confuse their
language so they won’t be able to understand each
other.” 8
So the Lord scattered them from there
across the face of the entire earth, and they stopped
building the city. 9
That is why its name was called
Babel – because there the Lord confused the
language of the entire world, and from there the
Lord scattered them across the face of the entire
earth.
14. Genesis – The Origin of:
Others:
Culture – urbanization, metallurgy, music,
agriculture, writing, etc.
Religion
Government
15. Genesis – The Origin of:
The Jewish People (Chapters 11-50)
Abraham
Ishmael (beginning of Saudi Arabia)
Isaac
Jacob and the 12 tribes of Israel
All the promises associated with Abraham
concerning physical descendents and
16. Genesis – The Origin of:
Abrahams Spiritual descendents:
The promises of Messiah and Christianity
It has been stated that the New Testament is
so dependent on Genesis that if we were to
loose Genesis the message of the New
Testament would crumble.
17. Christianity and Genesis
There are over 200 direct references to
Genesis in the NT.
Every NT book except three (Philemon, II and
III John) contain direct references or
allusions to Genesis.
Of the 50 chapters in Genesis only seven are
not quoted in the NT (20, 24, 34, 36, 40, 43,
44).
More than half of the 200 references are from
the first 11 chapters of Genesis.
18. Christianity and Genesis
63 references to Genesis in the NT are from
the first three chapters.
14 references are to the flood.
58 references relate to Abraham.
Jesus makes 25 references to Genesis.
19. The Gospel and Genesis
Without the first Adam it’s impossible to
understand the need of the second Adam.
Romans 5:17-19
17
For if, by the transgression of the one man (Adam),
death reigned through the one, how much more will
those who receive the abundance of grace and of the
gift of righteousness reign in life through the one,
Jesus Christ! 18
Consequently, just as condemnation
for all people came through one transgression, so too
through the one righteous act came righteousness
leading to life for all people. 19
For just as through the
disobedience of the one man (Adam) many were
made sinners, so also through the obedience of one
man (Jesus) many will be made righteous.
20. Link between beginning and the end.

Atheism (astrological and geological
science)
Polytheism (Greeks, Romans, Egyptians,
Mormonism, UFOism)
Pantheism (Hinduism, Christian Science,
etc)
Panentheism (process theology)
24. Attacks on Genesis
Attacks on the seven days of Creation
Evolution, Theistic evolution, Astronomy,
others.
Other attacks:
Attacks on the man’s creation in image of God
Rejection of a singular Adam and Eve
Rejection of original sin
Rejection of the universal flood
25. Attacks on Genesis
Reject or twist the account of God’s promises
to Abraham, or the accounts as given in
Genesis.
exp. Islam puts Ishmael on the mount with
Abraham instead of Isaac.
Every false religion, cult, or science (falsely so
called) rejects or attempts to rewrite primary
accounts in Genesis.
26. We Must
Read Genesis
Meditate on Genesis
Worship the Creator God of Genesis
Know Genesis
Know the Gospel as it relates to Genesis
Know the promises of Genesis
Be wise to the perversions litigated towards
Genesis
27. We Must
Know the Christ of Genesis
As Creator
As the Second Adam
As the one who walked with Abraham
As the fulfillment of the all the promises in
Genesis.
Colossians 1:15-17 (NET)
15
He is the image of the
invisible God, the firstborn
over all creation, 16
for all
things in heaven and on
earth were created by him
– all things, whether visible
or invisible, whether
thrones or dominions,
whether principalities or
powers – all things were
created through him and
for him. 17
He himself is
before all things and all
things are held together in
him.
28. Come to Christ our Creator and
Savior.
Hebrews 1:1-3
1
After God spoke long ago in various portions and in
various ways to our ancestors through the prophets,
2
in these last days he has spoken to us in a son,
whom he appointed heir of all things, and through
whom he created the world. 3
The Son is the
radiance of his glory and the representation of his
essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful
word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing
for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty
on high.
