TfL present their St Leonards Jct plans, the Streatham Redhawks talk about the coming season, and Brigstock Skin and Laser on how to get the same Kardashian beauty treatments here, but affordably.
Now British Summer Time has begun, we can enjoy the lighter evenings and look forward to some sunshine. Easter in Streatham is always a special time, with blossom and glorious magnolia trees in gardens everywhere (photographed in the Rookery by Philip Moran), and the Commons bursting into life. There are Easter egg hunts for the kids, and time during the holidays to start getting kites ready for Kite Day on Streatham Common on 14 May, the first of the Streatham Season of Festivals happening between May and October. Don’t miss Heart Streatham every month for all the info!

The Fascinating World of Bats: Unveiling the Secrets of the Night
Bats, the mysterious creatures of the night, have long been a source of fascination and fear for humans. With their eerie squeaks and fluttering wings, they have captured our imagination and sparked our curiosity. Yet, beyond the myths and legends, bats are fascinating creatures that play a vital role in our ecosystem.
There are over 1,300 species of bats, ranging from the tiny Kitti's hog-nosed bat to the majestic flying foxes. These winged mammals are found in almost every corner of the globe, from the scorching deserts to the lush rainforests. Their diversity is a testament to their adaptability and resilience.
Bats are insectivores, feeding on a vast array of insects, from mosquitoes to beetles. A single bat can consume up to 1,200 insects in an hour, making them a crucial part of our pest control system. By preying on insects that damage crops, bats save the agricultural industry billions of dollars each year.
But bats are not just useful; they are also fascinating creatures. Their ability to fly in complete darkness, using echolocation to navigate and hunt, is a remarkable feat of evolution. They are also social animals, living in colonies and communicating with each other through a complex system of calls and body language.
Despite their importance, bats face numerous threats, from habitat destruction to climate change. Many species are endangered, and conservation efforts are necessary to protect these magnificent creatures.
In conclusion, bats are more than just creatures of the night; they are a vital part of our ecosystem, playing a crucial role in maintaining the balance of nature. By learning more about these fascinating animals, we can appreciate their importance and work to protect them for generations to come. So, let us embrace the beauty and mystery of bats, and celebrate their unique place in our world.

Over the past few weeks the Financial
Times, Londonist.com, Time Out and other
have written glowing reviews of Streatham
restaurants, cafés, pubs and other watering
holes. David Harewood wrote in the Telegraph
that Streatham should be on the map; now it’s
being put there! Streatham is now one of the
places to be.
As part of our commitment to
protecting the environment we
went straight out to the common
when we heard travellers had
set up camp there early on a
Saturday. The police gave them
until sundown to leave and
advised Lee to film the area to
create an evidence base in case
tonnes of rubbish were dumped
again. He was able to document the
entire sweep of the wooded area on
the upper side and behind the Rookery. We
heaved a sigh of relief when they left, until we
found they had only gone to Woodmansterne
Primary School playing fields. Thankfully a
robust police attendance there too meant they
were gone by Monday morning.
Many will have seen that Megabowl and
Caesars demolition has begun. As we stated
previously the project has been ongoing for
some time now and was never at risk, but
a theatre watch group has been formed to
monitor the final development plan for the
Megabowl theatre. Watch for updates here and
on our website and social media feeds.
We have heard from at least three parts of
Streatham about recent scooter thefts in the
area. At least one that was taken was not
chained to anything at all. Please keep an
eye out for people acting suspiciously
in your area. See our police
inspector’s column about how to
get involved and do something
about it.
We want to congratulate
Streatham resident (and
Coldharbour councillor) Donatus
Anyanwu for his selection
as mayor of Lambeth and St
Leonards Ward councillor Saleha
Jaffer as Deputy Mayor of Lambeth.
She’s the first woman to be deputy mayor
and the first Muslim person to hold the office
as well.
We hoped Lambeth had taken to heart public
feedback about transport issues when we saw
councillors promoting an informal Streatham
Transport Survey on social media. Amongst
other problems we found no (required) privacy
policy and the survey is hosted on a third
party website. We want action and a properly
consulted study with official surveys, and we
think Streatham Action should be the delivery
partner.
Finally we really enjoyed marching with the
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts up Streatham
Hill in their annual St Georges Day parade.
There was packed attendance at the service
afterwards at Christ Church Streatham Hill. We
understand there will also be individual 70th
VE Day Anniversary events nearby but after
repeated requests for information, there seems
to be no offcial celebration plans by Lambeth
Council.

Housing and Planning update by lee alley
Firstly a big thank you to everyone who has
been in touch with help and information about
planning issues in Streatham over the past
few months, and some of the root causes are
becoming evident.
Demand for places to live in Streatham is
very high. We’ve heard from people in secure
jobs trying to rent, but who have been told
they need £50,000 income per annum net
between them to secure a property!
Lambeth Council’s policy is to increase
housing density in the borough, whilst also
increasing social housing by 1000 units over
the next five years. This means the policy is
systemically skewed to favour developers
who can deliver affordable units piecemeal.
The controversial developments at Wyatt
Park and Fawcett Close will only deliver 8
affordable units, for all the upset they’ve
caused residents. Megabowl proposes
only 28 affordable units, but in a recent
development of 392 flats on the South Bank
there were none at all. Part of the reason is
CLIPs (Co-operative Local Investment Plans),
previously known as Section 106 funds or
Planning Gain.
CLIPs for residential developments works
on tiers in Lambeth – Waterloo and Vauxhall
are Zone A, and the CLIPs levy there will pay
for Lambeth’s contribution to the Northern
Line and Bakerloo extensions in Lambeth.
Kennington. Oval and Clapham are Zone B
(less than 60% of the Zone A levy) and the rest
of the borough is Zone C (1/3rd of Zone B).
This means residential development is
relatively cheap in Streatham, meaning
developers can use statutory viability
assessments to minimise social outcomes
whilst maximising unit delivery and density.
We have been told Lambeth simply does
not have the money robustly to challenge
developers in the face of this, so many
developments gain consent in spite of
residents’ strong opposition.
Although CLIPs rates are the same in all
areas of the Lambeth for retail and other large
commercial developments, there isn’t space
for this kind of development in Streatham,
which means Streatham tends to almost
exclusively get residential CLIPs, and around
1/6th of the level of the more wealthy parts of
the Borough. CLIPS rates paid by residential
developers in the most expensive parts
of Lambeth (South Bank, for example) are
sufficient to contribute a large chunk towards
such projects as the Northern Line extension,
Without CLIPS incentives or space for large
commercial development in Streatham, and
low CLIPS rates on residential developments,
we’ve no chance of getting proper transport
infrastructure projects such as tube
extensions and Crossrail any time soon.
Unless Lambeth changes policy and diverts
CLIPS money to the disadvantaged south of
the Borough equably to redistribute financial
advantages enjoyed by the north.

TheatreWatchStreatham
Jeremy Clyne
Developers London Square have
responded to a high profile petition and
a wave of objections to their plans for
the theatre to be built as part of the
redevelopment of the Megabowl/Caesar's
site at Streatham Hill, but new plans still
do not address fundamental problems.
The size of the facilities available to the
theatre operators at 'peppercorn rent'
have been increased by incorporating
space originally designated D1
community space, allowing for two
dressing rooms rather than a single
unisex one. Rehearsal space is now
available to help raise much-needed
revenue but the front of café-bar is
woefully small, and it would struggle to
cope with a full house. It is hard to see
how such a theatre could make enough
money to be survive with the space
provided in the plans.
The footprint of the theatre is less than half
what was originally approved in 2010 – and
minute compared with the entertainment and
leisure space provided by Caesar's and the
Megabowl.
Theatre Watch Streatham was established at a
second lively meeting of theatre professionals
and concerned local people at the Hideaway
at the beginning of April. It concluded that
inadequate thought has been given to the
practicalities of performance or of running a
theatre, and there's a danger this once in a
lifetime opportunity to create a thriving cultural
space for Streatham will be lost.
TWS aims to ensure Lambeth Council permits
only a viable and sustainable theatre to
serve the whole community, and calls for an
independent theatre consultant to scrutinise
the plans.
Plans are now expected to go to Lambeth
Council's Planning Committee on May 19.

The Friends of Hillside Gardens Park and

of the park and nature garden. We’re proud of
achieving a Green Flag award for each of the

garden developed in a semi-wild fashion,
and in recent years the installation of a pond
and managed paths has made it is an ideal
resource for children. There are many secret
paths and bowers where they can play, and
in spring you will find tadpoles in the pond, in
autumn plenty of sweet blackberries, and in
the winter ducks visit the sheltered pond. Last
summer a community-led mural project was
installed.
Through the Co-operative Parks Programme,
we have been given the opportunity to take on
responsibility for our park and garden’s future,
as parks budgets are now being cut. We are
examining all possibilities, and developing
a viable business plan to support these vital
community assets for the benefit of us all and
future generations.
The Great Hillside
Gardens Sports Weekend!
16th & 17th May promises to be a wonderful
weekend of sport and fun in the park
for all ages. Inspired by the Lawn Tennis

the Friends are running a weekend of fun
sporting activities for all ages and abilities.
There will be football, basketball, netball, table
tennis, rounders and running events as well
as tennis! Special fun events such as tennis
rally and serving speed competitions, football
penalty taking, toddler races, a three-legged
race, and a 60-yard dash and walking football
for the over 50’s also are included in the
fun, and many of the participants are busy
collecting sponsorship money to raise funds
for the work of the Friends, who are working to
raise the profile of Hillside Gardens Park in the
local community.
The goal for the weekend is to have a
broad range of activities to entertain all
members of the community and show off
the wonderful facilities the park offers. Come

Many people know the grand building that
sits proudly on Crown Lane at the top
of Streatham Common but very few
know exactly what it is, and who
lives there. The British Home
is an independent registered
charity established over 150
years ago, and it provides
specialised nursing care and
support for vulnerable people with
long term medical conditions and
severe disabilities primarily relating
to neurological problems. There are
currently 75 people of all ages and
diverse background living in the
Home.
The Home moved to the current
building in 1894, with the ethos of
caring for individuals that remains
today. It has a fascinating history. Many
of the Royal family have visited over the
years, soldiers were accommodated during
the Great War, and the Home was badly
damaged in the Second World War.
The British Home is independent of the NHS
(although some funding is provided), and the
charity needs to raise £1.5 million every year.
Their new advertising campaign includes a
beautiful image of a flower painted by one
of the residents. There are also plans to host
more fundraising events within the Home,
which has a large concert hall and beautiful
gardens to the front and to the back of the
building, and residents would like to get more
actively involved in the local community.
Care to Help?
If you would like to help and get involved, the
Home would love to hear from potential
volunteers, who are needed in many
ways, from helping in the art room or
computer suite to simply befriending
a resident. The Home is especially
keen to hear from anybody wishing
to help with their annual Summer
Fayre on Saturday 6th June.
Care to Give?
If you would like to organise an event
for the British Home or to support
any future fundraising events, the
Home would love to hear from you,
particularly from other organisations,
schools and businesses in the local
area.

Happy birthday Café Barcelona! They
opened on the 5th of June 2014 and they're
celebrating their first birthday with a wonderful
Festival of Iberian Music and Food from 27
May-5th June.
You've probably met Javier Moreno and his
wife Claudia at the café serving up a gorgeous
latte or one of Claudia's own-recipe natas.
What you might not know is that both are
acclaimed musicians in the world music
scene. Their love of music is quite eclectic,
and one of the comments we hear from people
who have been to the café is that there's
always a great mix of music playing. The café
is on a small plaza near Morrison's and just
down from Streatham Station, it's the perfect
place to grab a tasty breakfast, coffee before
the commute, fabulous sandwich on Elephant
Bakes bread, or indulge in a delicious hand-
made cake. There are sunny tables outside,
and there's a vibrant and happy atmosphere.
The festival is Javier and Claudia's brainchild,
and a really great contribution to the
Streatham music scene. Both Javier and
Claudia usually play to crowds and venues
many, many times larger than can ever fit
inside the café but they want to bring a taste
of their culture to the area.
Javier is originally from Barcelona and has
always loved playing flamenco from the region
of Andalusia that his father comes from.
Claudia comes from Lisbon, is a world-
renowned performer of Fado, the uniquely
Portuguese style of folk-blues, and the songs
are her originals. Streatham loves them, and
all of the shows held in the café have quickly
sold out, with rave reviews on social media
afterwards!
Kicking things off will be Trio Manouche with
their own brand of gypsy swing on the 27th
of May. They played a great show Hideaway
a couple of years ago, and you now have
a chance to see them close up in this most
intimate of venues.
Come out for Fado on the 28th with a special
guest who has appeared at WOMAD and on
Radio 3. Javier's flamenco band, Alma Gitana,
will play on Friday the 29th, and on Saturday
the 30th you must not miss Sura Susso a
singer-songwriter and world famous Kora
player form the Gambia.
There will be tapas and wine served every
night with the performances. Ticket purchase
and pricing for the shows above can be found
at cafebarcelonalondon.co.uk/world-music-
festival
The final birthday party will be on the 5th of
June featuring the Los Amigos band with wine
and paella. There is free admission to this
event and it promises to be very tasty, and a
lot of fun!

StreathamFoodFestival3rd-7thJune
This fantastic Festival celebrates Streatham's
vibrant food scene, bringing people together
through a shared love of food.
The Food Tour is back, with thirty local
eateries offering taster plates over three days.
Last year the High Road was buzzing with
eager Food Tourists, and you’ll find several
new eateries on this year’s Food Tour map
(out soon), all hoping to receive top marks on
your scorecards.
Will Fish Tale hold on to their crown this year?
It’s up to you to decide, so grab a map and a
scorecard and get tasting!
The Sunday Food Fair on 7th June will
transform Streatham Green with a mix of hot
and cold food stalls, cooking demos, live
music and entertainment. The atmosphere
has been really special over the past couple
of years, with people from all over Streatham
and beyond coming together to enjoy a day
of food and community.
We’ll be hosting the final of our new
children’s recipe competition as part of the
event. Nine local primary schools are taking
part, with pupils invited to create a recipe
that celebrates the rich cultural mix in our
community.
Each school’s winning dish will be served as
part of their regular lunch menu on the first
day of the festival, and Rosie Boycott, chair
of the London Food Board, will be visiting
Hitherfield Primary to taste their winning
dish and take part in a food growing activity
in the school’s amazing Edible Playground.
Lambeth is one of the GLA’s Flagship Food
Boroughs, and the Festival is proud to be
encouraging pupils to develop a love
of healthy and sustainable food.
There’s plenty more on offer this
year, including a pick-your-
own salad and Big Lunch at
Streatham Common Community
Garden, a film screening and
food growing session by Edible
Hillside, a German inspired pop-
up dinner event at Boyce da Roca,
Café Barcelona’s first anniversary
paella party, Brixton People’s Kitchen’s
waste food pop-up at Taylors, a ‘world
cuisines’ fundraiser for the Streatham Drop
In Centre for Refugees, the British Home’s
Summer Fayre, BBQs, music and more!

festival updates and please get in touch if

Hitherfield Primary School in Streatham
undertook a major building programme in
2012/13 to enable this popular school to
expand to take in more children. As the
project neared completion the school asked
its community how best to use the school
grounds. From this consultation the idea
of using the grounds to grow food
was born, so the school and the
PTA worked closely with Trees
for Cities to develop its Edible
Playground. This led to the
school becoming a Food Flagship
School for Lambeth which itself is
one of two London Food Flagship
Boroughs. The purpose of the
flagship programme is for schools like
Hitherfield to share their expertise in having a
whole school approach to healthy lifestyles.
A partnership with the Streatham Food
Festival has been developed and last year,
Class 1L were treated to a ‘Herby Bread Day’.
The children tasted herbs and created a herb
garden with local garden educator, Jenny
Hindson, and Duncan Salisbury-Gaumont of
The Elephant Bakehouse taught the children
to bake their own delicious herby focaccia
bread using herbs they had picked in the
garden. The event was a great success,
bringing the curriculum to life as well
as teaching the children how to
make good quality, nutritious food
with school grown ingredients.
This year Streatham schools are
running a recipe competition with
the Streatham Food Festival to
celebrate the many cultures at our
schools and Hitherfield is planning on
running a stall at the Food Fair on Sunday
7th June to showcase foods being grown at
Streatham Schools.
Chris Ashley-Jones is Head at Hitherfield
Primary School.

It’s been hustings season since February,
when Keep our NHS Public kicked off the
first at Streatham Library. Dunraven School
hosted a United Nations Association hustings,
and we joined 38 Degrees, Streatham Action,
and Save the Children to organise a hustings
at the Hideaway (watch the video www.
heartstreatham.co.uk). More were hosted
by Age UK Lambeth, LAMPAG (Lambeth
Pensioners Action Group), Love Streatham
(the collective of Streatham churches) at
Streatham Baptist Church. Interfaith Hustings,
at the South London Liberal Synagogue are in
progress as I write, and there are two more to
come before we head to the polling stations.
Main hustings issues
What is clear from all hustings we attended
is that transport and housing are big issues
for Streatham. Voters have flagged up
longstanding problems with existing train
services, and there is huge concern that
we have not been part of any strategic
plan by Lambeth or TfL for major transport
infrastructure projects such as tube line
extensions and Crossrail. This is compounded
by a population expected to grow significantly
in the next few years who will need to get to
work, school, and so forth.
Big concerns locally are the safety and
pollution levels along the A23 and Streatham
Vale for pedestrians, cyclists, and car users.
Businesses want these issues solved as well,
and also call for improved parking and better
road design to alleviate congestion.
Here’s who you’ll find on your ballot paper on
May 7th.

Streatham's most historic building, St.
Leonard's church, will be celebrating the 40th
anniversary of its rebirth after a devastating
fire in 1975 with an Open Day on Saturday
30th May 2015.
A rolling programme of tours between 11am
and 4pm will allow people to explore parts of
the church not normally open to the public,
such as the crypt and the bell tower.
Relics dating back to the mid-1300s will be
on display, including the 14th century effigy
of Sir John Ward, the Elslefeld Brass of 1390
and some magnificent monuments originating
from the Tudor period onwards.
Visitors can pop into the church at any time
throughout the day to examine Streatham's
oldest building and to view an exhibition
depicting the history of Streatham in bygone
days.
A new book on the history of the church will
be launched at the event, and a wide range
of other publications on the local history of
Streatham will be on sale. Refreshments will
also be available.

TheSalonGuide–
TheCuttingRoom
by lee alley
Here at Heart Streatham towers we have come
up with a scheme to provide the definitive
guide to hair and beauty salons in the
Streatham area. We began our trek at
The Cutting Room on the Streatham
High Road. Colin the boss, has
more experience and expertise
with hair than the entire staff of
many south London salons but, is
a throughly nice bloke. When we
put out a call for help for one of the
homeless folk at Spires, Colin offered
to help out within minutes. And this
is in addition to the regular special offer for
the seniors day he holds once a month - this
month in partnership with Kupkase cakes.
Importantly the Cutting Room is a Paul
Mitchell salon. From the outset there is a
standard of training and quality delivery a
salon has to be able to maintain to use and
sell Paul Mitchell branded products. The
Cutting Room has consistently done this,
spending the time and money to invest in the
training of the next generation of stylists for
the industry and the local market. But what
about the results?
Jane went by for a haircut and highlights and
was left amazed. Colin mixed in five separate
colours for her highlights using specific tints
to complement her hair’s natural colours. This
not only meant the effect was subtle, thus
more effective, but extended the time between

treatments for someone who is very busy
and can’t afford a 3-hour appointment every
month. Cutting Room stylists take the time to
show customers how to keep the look on a
daily basis so the next hair wash doesn’t mean
the end of the style.
When asked how I want my hair cut I’ve tested
several salons and barbers with “Make me
gorgeous.” The results have been mixed.
Thankfully I happened into the Cutting Room
on the day Toni Amore started. She doesn’t
look it by any means, but has 30 years
experience as a hairdresser. I believe it too, as
my hair was just long enough here, trimmed
back there and shorn closely precisely where
necessary. Sometime later I’m still
pleased and it hasn’t required onerous
maintenance.
Two thumbs up for the Cutting
Room as we both highly
recommend it for men and
women; young and old.

Be proud of your skin
It’s hard to believe that one of the most
advanced and high tech medical facilities
in London is on a busy side road just off
Thornton Heath pond. Time was celebs
and movie stars were the only people able
to afford cosmetic skin improvement for
blemishes and to maintain their youthful look
well into middle age. Nowadays all of
that is accessible by almost all of us
without breaking the bank. And not
in Harley Street or exotic clinics,
we have much better right here on
our doorstep.
I spent some time at the Brigstock
Skin and Laser treatment centre
on Brigstock Road to learn what
they offer and to try it for myself. The
Centre is part of a local medical group
that includes Brigstock Family Practice, a
GP surgery centre, and Communitas, the
NHS dermatological treatment centres
that see up to 70% of all intermediate
dermatological referrals for a population of
over 1 million people from several boroughs
in and around the London area. The centre
is not just incredibly high tech, but shares
facilities with one of the most rigorous NHS
medical practices in the country that has won
awards both for their NHS services and the
management team that run the clinics.
When a man reaches the age of 35 or so,
hair annoyingly begins to sprout in unwanted
places whilst often simultaneously receding
from his head. I can testify personally that the
hair removal treatment works, is convenient,
affordable and virtually pain-free, both to the
skin, and arguably to the wallet. Patients get
holistic treatment as well. Nilu Vajpeyi, the GP
that founded the group fourteen years ago,
said one’s skin is reflective of one’s overall
internal health. Because doctors and nurses
perform the treatment routines instead of
technicians, they don’t just treat the specific
dermatological requirement, but can address
dietary or other health issues they see when
examining the skin and provide holistic
advice in addition to skin treatment.
The staff explain in detail exactly what they
will treat, how it works, what one can expect
and, afterwards, including aftercare. They
recommended precisely the treatment that
would work for me (laser removal of dark
hairs) and advised alternatives (electrolysis
for blond or grey hairs on which the laser has
no affect) that were suitable and appropriate.
As an information junkie in general I
want to have as much information
on my health as possible, so
booked a VISIA multispectral
facial analysis session. The
system measures sun damage
in three ways, skin wrinkling
and spotting, and the amount of
surface bacteria, spots and brown
spots is calculated. Each result comes
on a scale of 1 to 100 with a score of 50
being the average for one’s age.
Dr Nilu used the example of a person she
saw for a severe acne issue. There are
much, much better ways to treat acne
now than even a few years ago which can
also eliminate scars or pigmentation. At
Brigstock the rule is to treat the individual,
not just symptoms so the team looked at
diet, lifestyle and medical issues alongside
the actual skin symptoms and arranged a
successful overall programme to address the
causes of acne. This holistic approach had a
positive effect and meant the skin treatments
worked better, more effectively and had a
lasting effect over the long-term.
Brigstock clinicians are award-winning
including the Laing & Busisson award
for management excellence. and the
Government Opportunities Award for the
best patient service in the entire health-care
service.
There’s no one better to look after your skin
health and it’s right on our doorstep. To put
it into their words, “Go on, be proud of your
skin!” Brigstock can help. Lee Alley
32. Carroll burst on the scene
in 1980 with a million-selling
self-penned debut album
“HOPELESSLY IN LOVE” – which
stayed in the UK reggae charts
for an amazing and record-
breaking two and a half years.
Her music has remained a top
choice for a young audience
with romance on its mind – in the
bedroom and on the dancefloor.

‘SayHelloforWilliamsDay!’
Sara Smyth
Not many people have heard of Williams
Syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting 1 in
10,000 children in the UK.
Once you meet a child with Williams, you
will never forget them. Although they face
challenges brought by global developmental
delays and often serious heart conditions,
people with Williams are known for their huge
smiles, extreme friendliness and happy, chatty
natures.
Caused by a random micro deletion of genetic
material from chromosome 7, Williams can
affect anyone. There is no cure, it is a lifelong
condition, but many of the conditions caused
by Williams can be effectively treated and
managed.
This year sees the very first national Williams
Syndrome Day, ‘Say Hello’, on 15 May to raise
awareness of the condition.
Local mum, Sara Smyth, whose 6 month old
daughter, Carys, has Williams says,
‘The idea of ‘Say Hello’ is to focus on the
positive Williams traits and encourage people to
be friendlier to each other. Just by simply saying
hello to others should lead to a more friendly
day, filled with conversations that otherwise may
not have happened. The Williams Syndrome
Foundation wants to change the conversation
from ‘People with Williams are too friendly’ to
‘the world they live in isn’t friendly enough.
Carys was diagnosed with Williams prenatally
and, although we were initially very shocked,
the Williams Syndrome Foundation has been a
huge source of support. Carys is doing really
well, she has the sweetest nature and is already
displaying a beautiful and typical Williams’s
smile.’
Sara is the co-founder (with local mum Carrie
Southall) of Happynest Children’s Fair launching
on Saturday 16 May at Streatham Tate Library
Hall and Garden. It is a curated and styled
collection of around 25 stands providing a mix
of retail and workshops, all with a focus on
creativity and design with a cafe on site with
homemade treats, and a small children’s play
area.
They aim to create a regular event where
children can try out new skills such as sewing,
baking, sports and photography, as well as
fuelling their imagination with creative play.
Happynest is supporting ‘Say Hello’ and is
running a drawing competition, asking children
to draw a picture of things that make them
happy. There will be prizes for the U5’s and
U10’s. So take along your pictures to Streatham
Tate Library on Saturday 16 May and
