This document describes an experiment to compare the effect of one minute of mechanical (elliptical) exercise versus non-mechanical (running) exercise on heart rate. The experiment found that one person's heart rate increased an average of 23.5 beats per minute after elliptical exercise, compared to an average increase of 20 beats per minute after running. The conclusion is that mechanical exercise causes the heart to work harder than non-mechanical exercise after one minute.
