Local subcontractors in Africa did not have strong health and safety (H&S) policies like European vendors. However, foreign mobile investments brought strong H&S policies. Companies are legally required to insure employees and contractors against workplace accidents. To lower insurance costs, companies must enforce H&S policies to prevent employees from intentionally causing accidents. Accidents damage company reputation and management image. Strict enforcement of Vodafone's "6 Absolute Rules" for H&S is required for contractors and vendors in developing countries like Kenya to reduce casualties during fiber installation projects. Adaptations were made to clothing and H&S practices for the local environment and conditions in Mombasa.
