Harlem Renaissance Essay
Writing an essay on the Harlem Renaissance can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty lies in capturing the essence of a complex cultural and artistic movement that took
place in the early 20th century. The Harlem Renaissance was a period of profound social,
cultural, and artistic transformation, predominantly centered in the Harlem neighborhood of
New York City. Addressing the various facets of this movement requires a comprehensive
understanding of its historical context, key figures, literary works, visual arts, music, and the
societal impact it had on African American communities.
The research process for such an essay involves delving into a wide range of primary and
secondary sources to grasp the multifaceted nature of the Harlem Renaissance. Analyzing the
works of influential figures like Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Duke Ellington is
essential to capturing the diversity of creative expression during this era. Additionally, exploring
the socio-political backdrop, racial tensions, and the Harlem community's resilience becomes
crucial for a nuanced perspective.
Crafting a well-structured essay involves weaving together these various elements coherently,
ensuring a balanced and insightful exploration of the Harlem Renaissance. It's essential to
articulate the connections between literature, music, visual arts, and societal changes, providing
a holistic view of this cultural phenomenon. Moreover, integrating critical perspectives and
scholarly debates adds depth to the analysis, showcasing a nuanced understanding of the
complexities surrounding the Harlem Renaissance.
Concluding such an essay requires summarizing key insights and leaving the reader with a
profound understanding of the significance of the Harlem Renaissance. However, despite its
challenges, delving into this topic offers an enriching experience, allowing the writer to
appreciate the immense contributions of African American artists and intellectuals during this
transformative period in history.

It s An App For That Can Make Shopping More Convenient
Or...
There s an app for that . I find myself pointing out this somewhat obvious fact on a
regular basis. What is there not an app for? Honestly, every aspect of a person s
average day can be assisted in some way by an app. App for the alarm in the
morning, for your Starbucks coffee, an app for the morning news, apps to track
your weight and calorie intake, a pedometer app to count your steps, GPS to get
you to an appointment, banking apps, calendar, grocery list, coupons, Safeway
even has an app. Apps that make shopping more convenient or ordering food.
There are fertility tracking apps, memory training apps, apps for school and
reading, apps to look for a job, home, or new car. Literally you name it, there s an
app for it. Not to mention the countless games and apps geared towards children.
According to Statista.com as of July 2015 Android users were able to choose
between 1.6 million apps. Apple s App Storeremained the second largest app store
with 1.5 million available apps. In addition there are 400,000 Amazon apps, 340,000
apps available through the Windows phone store and 130,000 available on
Blackberry world.(Statista.com) Totaling over 3.9 million apps available at the touch
of a finger tip.
To many this may seem like life just getting more and more convenient. However,
has it been considered how much these apps enable and inevitably handicap our
ability to function without them? Essentially with all of the apps being made
available today not only are we chained to
The California Earthquake
California Earthquakes California s unique geography as a state makes it a very
appealing place to call home. From the odd east to west transverse San Gabriel
mountain ranges of the Los Angeles Basin, to the bumpy coastal ranges of the Bay
Area, any person can find a compatible topographic terrain to their liking. California
may seem to be the perfect place to live with its ideal climate and extensive
geographic features. However, due to California s location over the shifting
continental plates, coupled with its enormous and also multiple faults, at any time
this great state can fall victim to a seismic disaster. After examining evidence from
both Rong Gong Lin s II Los Angeles Times article of April 18, 2016 and the NOVA
videos Killer Quake ( 2006), Earthquake(2007), as well as Geologic Journey II
Episode 3 (The Pacific Rim: Americas) Part 3 (San Francisco) and The Great San
Francisco Earthquake (American Experience ~ 2005), one can take a comparative
account of the three major earthquakes of California s past. Although each
earthquake was very devastating on is own; the Great Quake 0f 1906, the Loma
Prieta quake of 1989, and the NorthRidge quake of 1994 each amounted to an
extensive forfeiture of property and life. Each of these earthquakes created much
suffering and loss. It is imperative for each citizen of this great state to understand
the damage that a California quake can actually do and be prepared; for the threat of
one always looms. Before we delve into
Persuasive Essay On Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic Surgery: Liposuction Contemporary society is more widely accepting of
cosmetic surgery as normal compared to the past. In the modern world, people are
highly concerned with appearances, features, attractiveness and insecurities, and
believe the solution to these problems is cosmetic surgery. People are willing to
undergo cosmetic procedures despite many of the possible complications. Liposuction
is one most common cosmetic procedures patients choose to undergo in the U.S.
Liposuction, or lipoplasty, is the removal of fat from the body. Patients elect to
undergo this surgerybecause they are seeking more aesthetically pleasing body
shapes, and it is important to know that it is not a substitute for weight loss.
Liposuction is simply the reshaping or molding of body parts. The abdomen, butt,
and thighs are some of the most common areas of the body that liposuction is
performed on. The best candidates for liposuction are people who have good
elasticity and skin tone, where the skin molds itself into new contours (Nordqvist).
The procedure includes an anesthesia, general or local, depending on the amount of
fat that is being removed. Then, small incisions are made in discreet spots of the
targeted area of fat removal (Jones). The incisions are typically less than an inch in
length. Next, a cannula, a small tube, is inserted into the incisions to loosen the fat by
moving it back and forth, and it is then suctioned out using a surgical vacuum or
syringe attached to
Ratio Analysis and Statement of Cash Flows
Ratio Analysis and Statement of Cash Flows Financial ratios are just a convenient
way to summarize large quantities of financial data and to compare firms
performance (Brealey Myer Marcus, 2003, p. 450). Financial ratios are very useful
tools in order to determine the health of a company, help managers to make
decision, and help to compare companies that belong to the same industry in order to
know about their performance. Home Depot and Lowe s are two home improvement
chains in the United States. Home Depot is the leading company in this industry
followed by Lowe s as the second largest. This paper uses financial ratios to compare

Leverage ratios measures how much financial leverage the companies have take on
(Brealey Myer Marcus, 2003). Home Depot s and Lowe s risk management can be
analyzed by calculating their leverage ratios. The long term debt ratio measures the
long term debt to total long term capital. Home Depot long term debt ratio in 2005
was 0.9 and 0.32 in 2006. Lowe s long term debt ratio was 0.20 in 2005 and 0.22 in
2006. It can be concluded that in Home Depot, 32 cents of every dollar of long term
capital is in the form of long term debt in 2006 and in Lowe s, 22 cents of every
dollar of long term capital is in the form of long term debt.

Companies and Thier View on Social Networking
Companies and their views on social networking, right or wrong? Jonathan Lee
Over the past few years social networking has started to grow into a bigger entity,
almost now to a cultural level. It s now to the point where younger children have
started to use these forms of social networking such as Facebook to connect with
friends or to update what they are currently doing. For example with Facebook, its
main function is to keep people connected and intertwined to ensure that friends are
able to know what each other are doing. And to do this they either make a status
update, post a picture or a video, and even making new friends with someone
thousands of miles away. But what happens when adults such as you and I start to use

(Gavison, 1980) These definitions of privacy are based in both legal and
philosophical thought. So with these basic definitions of privacy, how would the
company explain how they were going to suspend an employee because of a
negative post made towards the company, if one the employee never gave the
company permission to view his Facebook profile and also what gives the
company the right to do so. Facebook has served as a way to express ourselves, so
what happens when we do so and in the eyes of the company it may be a bad thing?
Here s and example of what may happen. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in
North Carolina fired one employee and disciplined seven others recently for
offensive postings on Facebook, a social networking web site. The fired worker
had posted a photo of himself shirtless and listing Chillin wit my n___as as a
favored activity. An elementary school teacher had listed drinking as a hobby. And
a high school special ed teach wrote I m feeling pissed because I hate my students!
Employers have the right to hold their employees responsible for such off duty,
online postings if employees use the postings to attack the company, harass co
workers or even violate company policy
Gender, Gender And Gender Stereotypes
There are multiple examples and instances where the object of a joke has
something to do with gender and gender stereotypes. These types of jokes seem to
take center stage at any comedy performance or routine, and the audience loves it.
Gender in association with humor brings up a great deal of questions. Do males
and females see humor differently? Are there any similarities in the way the sexes
view humor? And is there any truth to the thought that humans enjoy crass humor
more than other types of jokes? These questions have been popping up in the
scientific world, and researchers are trying to answer them. Even though there have
been studies conducted, it is still a new field with much more potential. A series of
studies examines three age groups. These studies were named under, a
developmental test of the disposition theory of humor, which were conducted by
Paul Mcgee and Sally Lloyd. These studies observed three age groups and their
preferences of humor. The age groups included children, college aged teens, and
middle aged professional people. At the age of two children start to understand
humor for themselves and do not just mirror their parent s smiles. So does the gender
of the child depict their sense of humor? The children in this study were between the
ages of three and seven, this also shows how early on humor preference is
introduced. The jokes were presented to the children in the form of drawings. Taken

Gender Is The Definition Of Gender
Jervon Kyles
Ms. Smith
English 101
October 29, 2015
What is Gender? The definition of gender depends on the time period. The basic
and historically accepted version of the definition of gender is the state of being
either male or female, masculine or feminine, or simply a man or woman.
Historically we have lived in a world that only had binary gender, meaning that a
person was solely either a man or a woman. While that is the general definition that
has been accepted as a baseline representation of what gender is, in today s society,
it is actually much more difficult to classify. In the past, it was extremely simple;
men hunted while women took care of children. Today, gender is more than just a
person s physical makeup. Biological sex of a person isn t questioned; a person
with a penis is a male, and a person with breasts and a vagina is a female, but one
can have a gender that ranges from lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender,
transexual, etc. Gender is not about sex, but rather is a classification of one s sense
of attraction and whether they identify as a man, woman, or both. Western culture
is what established the basis of every person being either a man or a woman. The
first problem that has consistently been a part of gender classification is the fact that
its determined off of what s seen between the legs at birth. The variability of the
gender, even if seen in solely a biological sense, has more than just the two common
possibilities. Trying to
Dna Tells Tale Of How Cats Conquered The World

Title
Domesticated cats are currently spread wide and far across the world, posing as the
cute creatures we know them as today, but how did they get there? What exactly did
they domesticate from, and in what ways were they transported around the world? In
her article, DNA Tells Tale of How CatsConquered the World, Tina Hesman Saey
examines and analyzes these questions, using the research and findings from Eva
Maria Geigl, Thierry Grange, and Carlos Driscoll.
Using the DNA from today s cats, scientists have found out that modern house cats
have been domesticated from African wildcats. However, the big question still
remained: how did they make it all the way around the world? Geigl ... Show more

Being natural predators, they would hunt rodents, which encouraged Middle Eastern
farmers to keep them around. Grange explains that this set up could be dubbed as
mutually profitable for both sides (qtd. in Saey). Also, as many cat owners know, cats
typically mark their territory and stay in one place. Using this knowledge,
scientists have drawn conclusions that cats were transported to Europe; they didn
t migrate there themselves. This idea is backed up with evidence from mitotypes.
European wildcats carried one mitotype. It s called clade I. A 6,400 year old
Bulgarian cat and a 5,200 year old Romanian cat had a different type of
mitochondrial DNA. They both had mitotype IV A (Saey). These mitotypes are
relative to location, so when cats in Africa were found with mitotypes previously
only found in Egypt, it suggested that cats were being transported by people. Saey
also brings up a valid point, Thirty two of 70 cats from Southwest Asia also had that
mitotype. That rapid spread may indicate that sailors traveled with cats, some of
which could have jumped ship to find a new

Flawed Dogs by Berkley Breathed
Flawed Dogs, a book by Berkley Breathed, creator of Opus, Bloom County, and Bill
the Cat, uses hid wit, humor and illustrations to keep the reader involved with the
trials and growth of two main characters, Heidy McCloud and Sam the Lion.
Though this appears at first glance to be a children s book, obviously, fiction, it will
delight adults as well.
The title applies to the characters, which the reader will identify with. Whether
human canine or celestial being, defined here, the message is: No matter how life or
fate has flawed you physically, mentally, or emotionally there is a point at which it is
possible to find a purpose and act upon it.

ladle to replace Sam s missing foot. When people attacked Sam s new human, Sam
reacted fiercely with bared teeth and barking. This is how he arrived in the dog

Across from Sam, above a crazed pit bull, was a marquee for the Westminster Dog

pit bull.
Cassius lived free and pampered, Sam found his purpose. He hatched a desperate

The Evolution Of Eugenics
Since we live in this biological culture, identities appear potentially to be explicable
in biological terms and increasingly in terms of the genetic makeup. The sickness of
humans, which includes their personalities, capacities, passions, or the forces that
mobilizes us, this is what creates our identifies.
New eugenics, is the ideology which advocates the use of reproductive and genetic
technologies where the choice of enhancing human characteristics and capacities is
left to the individual preferences of parents acting as consumers, rather than the
public health polices of the state (NCBI pg. 2).
The last decades of the 19th century found the belief that the criminal was a certain
type of person, and it was inscribed in the identity

to avoid and prevent sexual misconduct. The main issues of the journals and articles
that I have chosen is how sexual harassment and sexual misconduct can possibly
occur, how sexual misconduct and sexual harassment has been a problem of
enormous or inappropriate intimacy between teachers and students. This paper will
also identify what a person should do if they have experienced sexual harassment and
sexual misconduct. This paper will provide ways how to identify and prevent way of
sexual misconduct and sexual harassment in the school systems.
According to Standard 3.02 Sexual Harassment, psychologists do not engage in
sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is defined as sexual solicitation, physical

To juxtapose this argument made by the REH, the next key factor is something
called the habitable zone. The habitable zone is defined as a region within which
Earth like planets might possess the moderate environmental conditions for advanced
life to form (von Bloh). Many of these new planets discovered are gas giants with
atmospheres too turbulent to support life, so these planets habitable zone is said to
be low or nonexistent. The existence of Earthlike planets, however, is just as
common as the existence of these extreme planets. Traits of the habitable zone, such
as a carbon silicate cycle, solar luminosity, and plate tectonics, were analyzed for 200
different possible Earth like planets in Franck, von Bloh, and Bounama s research....

These conditions can range from the temperature of the universe, the background
radiation leftover from the Big Bang, and the amount of elements located in the
universe. It is a well known fact that organic molecules are common within the
universe. As stated before, galaxies consist of billions of stars and then multiply
that by the amount of galaxies in the universe; one can see why there are a plethora
of stars. When stars die, the ones that explode, through a process called a
supernova, release enough heavy elements into space that are essential for life to
begin. Vilenkin states that the shockwave of these explosions are enough to propel
these heavier elements into areas of dense clouds that have the potential to form
new binary systems of a star and a planet. This new planet now has the chance to
form life. But, the REH claims that the destructive nature of space is more prone to
killing off any budding life than to help life develop. There is galactic cannibalism,
which is when two galaxies collide and ripe each other apart with the force of
gravity, or even stars dying can be a catalyst to the end of extraterrestrial life
forming. According to Vilekin and other astronomers, the universe has been cooling
down, albeit slowly and over the course of billions of years; but this seems to be
beneficial to the potential existence of other life. This cooling universe has become
How Are Breadheads Perceived By Mainstream Society
1.How are Dreadheads perceived by mainstream society, and additionally, how do
Dreadheads perceive mainstream society?
пѓ Dreadheads are perceived by the mainstream society as this counter culture group
who goes against societal norms as a way to differentiate themselves from Joe public.
Furthermore, this form of rebellion against society s expectations opens the door for
personal attacks against their character.
пѓ Dreadheads perceive mainstream society in a negative fashion since they feel
that they as an entire group are being unfairly judged upon based on their beliefs and
appearance. The subculture also believes that mainstream society is too controlling,

Additionally, they share common values in the sense that they welcome with open

in the Dreadhead culture is the idea of having an open mind and not prejudging
individuals based on their appearance which relates to the idea of the idea culture. A
connection that Dreadheads make that reinforces and strengthens their values is the
music that they head as it allows them to have a medium to express themselves in an
unconventional manner.
3. From the film, what are examples of ideal versus real culture in practice?
пѓ An example can be the contemporary society that we live in. In an ideal culture,
we as individuals preach the idea of freedom in terms of being living the style that
best suites you. In theory, society (especially in a democracy) would treat all
individuals fairly without prejudging their choices in life. The real culture, however,
revolves around society s expectations to adapt to the social norms that have been
established by the mainstream culture.

Louisiana Purchase Timeline
Timeline and Significance of the Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase, including the Mississippi river and west, was purchased by
the United States in 1803. The U.S. paid around four cents an acre, making the
exchange the biggest land acquisition in its history. The land doubles the size of the
United States making them a powerhouse and expedited westward expansion. The
story of the Louisiana Purchase begins with French and Spanish control; Jefferson s
need for the Port of New Orleans and ultimately the acquisition of over 800,000
square miles of lands rich with gold, silver, forestry and the mighty Mississippi River.

Outstanding Educator Qualities
I am choosing to express my thoughts on what I believe to be the most essential
qualities that an outstanding educator should embody. There are three distinct
qualities that I believe all excellent teachers should possess these are, passion,
collaboration, and adaptability. These three characteristics used together create a rich,
welcoming, and warm learning environment for which all students can flourish. An
outstanding teacher establishes a passion for teaching which is recognized and
internalized by the students. A high quality teacher, who is passionate about their
work, strives to engage students in instruction that is meaningful, interesting, and
exciting. An outstanding instructor shows their passion for teaching by establishing
high expectations for their students and provides... Show more content on

Teaching is not an individual profession, but rather a collaboration of professionals
coming together to achieve a single goal. A teacher must interact with staff, faculty,
paraprofessionals, parents, and most importantly students. An outstanding teacher
will act with poise and maturity while collaborating with the other team members.
Collaboration is an essential aspect of teaching because an outstanding teacher works
together with the team members to better the instruction and learning environment
for the students. An outstanding teacher understands how to work together with the
other members of the team in a manner that is respectful and courteous to all other
professionals. The final feature that all outstanding educators emulate is adaptability.
An excellent teacher realizes that not all lessons will be executed as sharply as one
may wish, but can modify the lessons for future success. A teacher who is adaptable
is a life long learner. The excellent teacher will not be perfect, but will see their
mistakes and failures as ways to better their teaching techniques. The
How Did Newton Come Up With His Laws
1. Introduction Newton s laws have received considerable attention from historians
and philosophers of science. Almost any historical account of Newton s
achievements incorporates a commentary of his laws of motion including the law
of universal gravitation as they were presented in his Principia. Also, they are
portrayed as typical examples of philosophical accounts of laws. Sometimes,
Newton s discoveries in optics are put as well at the same level, highlighting his
refinement of the law of refraction by discovering the heterogeneity of white light.
Both historians and philosophers bring up Newton s laws to show the constitution
and climax of early modern science or to re work philosophical debates. Indeed,
Newton s achievements are often summarised in his formulation of the laws of
nature synthesising the achievements of his predecessors and systematising the
study of nature in mathematical propositions highly sophisticated, applicable to a
wide variety of observable phenomena. But, how did Newton come up with his
laws? Where did he acquire the idea of nature governed by this kind of laws? How
are laws discoverable? To what extent do they describe or prescribe the actions of
nature? Traditional accounts run this way: Newton borrowed the idea of laws of...

Who Is Responsible For Hae Min Lee Death
On January 13, 1999, a girl named Hae Min Lee disappeared. She was a senior at
Woodlawn High School in Baltimore County in Maryland. Born in South Korea,
Hae Min Lee migrated to the United States along with her mother and brother to
live with her grandparents. She played field hockey and lacrosse. At age 18, Hae
Min Lee was reported missing by her family after she was supposed to pick up her
little cousin from kindergarten around 3:15 PM and drop her home, but she never
showed up. Weeks later on February 1, an anonymous call was made to the Baltimore
County Police suggesting that Adnan Syed, Hae s ex boyfriend was responsible for
her death. The investigation showed that although Lee had been dating Syed for the

Pusateri told the police about Wilds using that same phone to contact her and
admitting that he had helped Syed bury Hae Min Lee s body. Although Wilds
denied involvement regarding Hae s death at first, he eventually confessed to
helping Syed bury her body and dispose of the car in which the body was carried.
After days of anguish and intensive search, on February 9, Hae s body was found in
Leakin Park, a rambling forest in Baltimore. Her body was found by a maintenance
guy who said he d stopped to urinate on his way to work and noticed black hair
poking out of a shallow grave. The cause of her death was manual strangulation.
Although Lee s younger brother Saad who was Syed s best friend believed that he
is innocent, on February 28, 1999, Syed was charged with first degree murder and
has been in prison ever since. In 2016, after more than 17 years of incarceration, and
multiple denied appeals, Adnan Syed has finally been granted a new trial.
Investigations have shown that Adnan might not be, after all, responsible for the
death of Hae Min Lee, since it was proven that Jay Wilds testimony was unreliable

had 3 snowmobiles loaded up we hooked up and pulled it to the front of our house.
We went inside and said goodbye to my mom and grabbed the final stuff we needed.
Afterwards we got in the truck it was right around 7:30pm , there was little to no snow
on the ground when we left kinda sad it being january at the time and we couldn t
even walk in 1 inch of snow at our house. after we left we, not even 20 minutes
away had fallen asleep. I remember waking up going down a road pulling up to a
gas station at around 10:00pm i looked out the window and saw mounds of snow in
the parking lot, also snow falling

Pros And Cons Of Juvenile Detention Centers
The first thing that we had to do at the juvenile detention center was to go through
the metal detector and have our belongings scanned. The securities did not confiscate
our cellphones, which was surprising to me because cellphones are always banned in
the courtroom. After getting our name badges/passes, we walked into a courtroom.
The courtroom was a lot smaller than I thought. There were only one row of seating;
therefore, approximately only 10 individuals can sit in to listen to the cases. When the
judgecame into the courtroom, everyone stand up as a gesture of obedience to the
state s orders. After the judge sat down, the lawyers, the parties, and the witnesses
went up to the judge and introduced who they are. The witnesses gave a testimony

Racism and Anti-Semitism in the United States
Racism and Anti Semitism in the United States Introduction One question that still
plagues scholars is whether racism and anti Semitism are a continuing problem
within the United States, despite all the efforts made to eradicate them and all the
work done to make everyone equal. Most people in the US today would agree that
equality is closer than it was in the past, but the truth of the matter is that all people
are still not completely equal. There are a disproportionate number of black people
in the prison systems and on welfare, for example, and women who do the same
work as men still do not receive the same salaries. Additionally, there are anti
Semitic groups in the United States that still talk of Hitler and the Nazis as if they
were heroes for what they did in an effort to eradicate the Jewish people. These
groups are not seen on the news often and are not that vocal in most circles, but
they are certainly in existence. It will be argued here that the United States is too
much of a melting pot of different cultures, races, and opinions for there to be true
equality, which means that racism and anti Semitism will always exist in some
degree. Abolishment by the government does not guarantee eradication of an idea
or belief. Racism and Anti Semitism Still Exist During the years since WWII and
the years since slavery has been abolished, there have been changes in the way
people feel about black people, Jewish people, and others. Because that is the case,
Time As A Dominant Mode
Time emerges as a dominant mode in man s experience of modernity. Modernity has
shattered the sense of continuity and fixedness on which man s identity was built.
Many modern dramatists, who attempt to articulate man s Being in the world and his
experience in the modern world, explore different representations of the concept of
time, because time is capable of endowing human experience with a feeling of
continuity and discontinuity. Since modernity has ripped man out of a sense of time
consistent with his organic relationship to the world, experimenting with time could
be used to concretize the drama of modernity. For instance, many modern British and
Egyptian playwrights share a sense of dislocation and an identity crisis, which
manifests itself in the particular temporal patterns of their dramas. New temporal
modes, subjective and objective, have been developed in modern dramatic
representations, and many of them testify to the influence of philosophies of time,
both ancient and contemporary. In modern society, Time is generally perceived to
exist in our consciousness. When dealing with time, we are usually referring to our
consciousness of time; and we are conscious of time in many ways: appointments,
clocks, days, etc... This is known as objective time, but time can also be conceived as
a subjective experience, otherwise known as psychological or absolute time. An
important subcategory of time consciousness is time perception. Many philosophies
have thought
Mcdonald s Second Amendment Case Summary
Facts: The case is about whether the Second Amendment applies to the individual
states. Similar to the District of Columbia v. Heller (2008); the right to sleep and
bare arms for the purpose of self defense. McDonald a retired maintenance engineer
brought a suit against the City of Chicago for depriving him from his Second
Amendment right to bare arms. In 1982 a law was passed in the City of Chicago
banning registrations for hand guns. But, there is also a requirement by state law to
have all firearms registered, making it impossible for McDonald to own/register
disown guns. Procedural History: The lower courts decided a writ of certiorari; the
Supreme Court granted a review of the ivil case after three separate Chicago residents

The Use Of Egg In The Great Gatsby
Kumamoto analyzes the use of egg and fowl references throughout the novel and
ties it back to Fitzgerald s obsession with The Feast of Trimalchio in The Satyricon
in which eggs represent wealth, popularity, and prosperity. Fitzgerald uses this as
inspiration and links parties and food to eggs to show the social gap that exists
between East and West Egg people. Also, at the end of the novel, Fitzgerald has
Tom and Daisy feasting on cold chicken to play on the coward definition of the
word chicken and illustrate the low levels higher class people stoop to in order to
see the defeat of others. Overall, Kumamoto concludes that the use of egg and fowl
analogies in The Great Gatsbyis for Fitzgerald to shine a light on the bitter side of
riches
Essay on Benefits of Attending College
The importance of attending college
Time after time you hear about going to college; whether at work, family, friends,
and even when you are in high school you might have been repeatedly told of how it
can benefit you in the long run in regards to your future. They say a good education
can take you far in life. Students in high school may still question the importance of a
college education. In the world of today people find themselves asking, Why is it
important to go to college? An important aspect of succeeding in today s world is
getting a better education, and it s much more than just a degree in college you also

Further, a college graduate also has better options and opportunities to progress in
their career.
Going to college allows for many opportunities to open up in life. Society is
changing at a very rapid rate. College is a very difficult time for nearly everyone,
as Charles Murray who published an article on should the Obama Generation Drop
out also states that A large majority of young people do not have the intellectual
ability to do genuine college level work (95). Attending college is not for everyone,
but It can teach you to learn how to become independent, develop discipline,
evolve new life skills, and learn how to balance a social life versus student life. The
experiences you obtain and gain from attending college can lead you to learn how
to live your life within the college environment in a way that creates harmony with
who you are. It is a time of trial and error until you find what works for you.
Eventually harmony is found by choosing a major that coincides in a positive way
with the person you are. Once this is found, you will be able to establish a system
of studying and learning that works for how your mind works. It is natural that your
life will be in disharmony when the circumstances in your life change dramatically,
such as when you go to college, but your life should eventually return to being less
stressful. During your college journey, you will make many friends. Many friendships
that you make in college
Gun Control Laws Are Not Enforceable Essay
On June twelfth, this year the world woke up to the tragic news of a mass shooting
in Orlando, Florida. A twenty three year old man, Omar Mateen, opened fire at a
popular gay nightclub in downtown Orlando known as Pulse. Acting alone Mateen
used an AR 15 assault rifle and a handgun. By the time law enforcement could stop
him fifty people were killed and fifty others were injured. This incident is dubbed the
nation s deadliest mass shooting in history. Shocked from this event and others the
nation called upon its leaders to make a change in gun control law. Gun control has
become the main topic for debate among lawmakers and citizens across the country
due to the deadly attacks within the last decade. Many people debate issues of the
Second Amendment and a variety of other subtopics related to gun control and gun
rights. Gun control laws are not enforceable because there are too many variations in
laws and opinions across the country. Complications in the interpretation of the
Second Amendment, other federal laws, differences between state laws and level of
restrictiveness all add to the confusion and complications of gun control in the United
States. The issue of gun control is complex within itself because each state has their
own laws and set of restrictions. But to understand gun control one must understand
the foundation for gun laws which comes from the Second Amendment. The
Amendment states A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free

The, A Path Of Righteousness
In the tumultuous aftermath of the first gambling match, BhД«sma declares, the
way of dharma is the highest; not even noble priests can follow it in this world.
And in this world whatever a powerful man regards as dharma is said by others to
be dharma, even if it falls within the limits of adharma. I cannot judge this question...
with certainty, because of the subtlety, profundity, and seriousness of the issue.
(2.62.15 17) His words speak to a persistent source of conflict within parts of The
MahДЃbhДЃrata where following dharma, a path of righteousness, is not always an
issue of black and white. Many of the epic s recurring characters, including the

Even so, Arjuna, a Kб№Јatriya himself, goes against that principle multiple times
when he sets out to kill JarДЃsaб№ѓdha and eventually Duryodhana. Under some
urging and guidance, Arjuna dons the disguise of a Brahmin and travels to Magadha
with Kṛṣṇa and Bhīma in order to challenge King Jarāsaṃdha.
What ensues is a heated exchange as JarДЃsaб№ѓdha points out the wrong in their
deceitful entrance and the Pāṇḍavas counter him by citing his own
infractions of dharma, in a justification for their reasons to approach him the way
they did: The wrong you have done, son of Bб№›hadratha, should come before us,
for we practise dharma and are strong in dharma s defence. (2.20.10) Even though
Kṛṣṇa claims shortly afterwards that they do not pretend to be Brahmins
(2.20.23) as they also seized garlands to go with their costumes, something that real
Brahmins do not wear, the fact that the three of them did not present their true
identities from the start is a contrast to his statement. Due to the knowledge of
JarДЃsaб№ѓdha s vow that s famous throughout the earth (2.19.31) to always greet
Brahmins honourably, their disguises allowed them to get close enough to the king
in a way that their genuine identities probably would not have allowed. As a result,
they were able to execute their mission successfully. Then, Arjuna encroaches on the

Family Relationships In The Simpson
Family relationships are a common theme in novels or television shows. One of the
most famous and successful contemporary animated sitcoms in television is The
Simpsons which portrays the family and its dynamics in a very satirical way. Before
The Simpson appeared on television, the traditional American familyof the 1950s was
considered as the perfect one. It was a patriarchal family where the father went to
work, the mother raised the children while taking care of the household and the
children behaved well and did always the right thing. Indeed, the American family of

It portrays a typical, blue collar family where the main character is Homer, a father

Lord Of The Flies Society Analysis
Lord of the Flies
In life, there are a lot of things that hold people back from doing what they want to
do. One of the major things is the laws of society. William Golding s novel, Lord of
the flies, illustrates what would happen without society. After the plane crashes on
the abandoned island during World War Two, a group of british boys are left alone
to survive and fight for their ife. When the boys are first dropped off on the island,
they still have their civilized behavior with them. It changes significantly throughout
the novel. Goldings intentions in writing the novel is to show how men are born evil
but rely on society to be kept in check. Without the necessary structure for everyday
life that the industrialized world provides the boys find that, with the lack of
punishment or consequences for their actions, why not do whatever they want. Losing
all care of responsibility and only care about providing themselves personal
gratification. They ate most of the day, picking fruit wherever they could reach it and
not particular about ripeness or quality. They were used now to stomach aches and a
form of chronic diarrhea. Apart from food and sleep, they only found time to play,
aimless and trivial, in the white sand by the bright water. This passage conveys the
lack of motivation that the boys have. It presents them as lazy and unambitious,
having adapted to their current environment and have no internal conflict or problems
with being stuck on a deserted

The Physiology, Metabolism, Biochemistry
Toxoplasma gondii, Joan Ng Kiat Yee: BM304 revision guide 2015
The physiology, metabolism, biochemistry
Toxoplsama gondii is an intracellular apicomplexan parasite that forms cyst
coccidian in warm blooded animals, primarily in the Felida domestic cats (Shannon
et al., 2015). The organism also causes a wide range of diseases in different
intermediate hosts, ranging from animals, such as mammals and birds to human
(Astrid et al., 2000). In human, this parasite poses serious threat by causing a disease
called Toxoplasmosis (Parasites, 2015).
The parasite exits through the faeces of cats. Within the cat s intestinal epithelium, T.
gondii parasite undergoes gametogenesis and mating. This leads to the generation of
oocysts containing sporozoites that are the shed in the cat s faeces, which could
readily infect new host cells (Joanne et al., 2013).

Tommy Douglas Argumentative Essay
Tommy Douglas is truly a Canadian symbol who helped define what it means to
be Canadian; he thought of what was best for the people that were not as
privileged as he was after becoming successful and saw himself as equal, rather than
superior to the citizens living their lives around him. As a Baptist Minister Tommy
would donate and raise money for citizens struggling with affording treatment. It
should be noted that it is quite obvious that Mr Douglas was an intelligent man with
a goal set to pave a path for equality in every sense of the word, there were instances
that he learned about equality. His controversial essay on the topic of eugenics and
his endorsement of it changed dramatically as he went on to include those with

A Country in Progress During the 1800 s there was much speculation of geographic
and demographic opportunity out in the west. Much of the east coast was crowded
and overpopulated with lack of opportunity. The land east of the Mississippi River
appealed to these due to the discovery of gold and spacious fertile land to build
ranches and grow crops. The Homestead Act of 1862 entitled these new settlers one
hundred and sixty acres of land for a small fee with the agreement the land would be
improved and maintained to occupy crops and raise cattle within the 5 years. Once
the 5 years were up and these challenges were met, the land would be given to them

It acquired a large quantity of land attracting new settlers in. This land added vast
resources with large amounts of agriculture along with quantities of precious metals
such as gold and silver. As the transcontinental railroad evolved, westward expansion
soon increased. Mining and agriculture were the main sources of revenue in the west.
Without the railroad, goods could not be transported to and from. This led the United
States to becoming a self sufficient country with a booming economy. This served as
a platform for the United States to seek the acquisition of new territories. The
Manifest of Destiny prompted others to encourage the expansion but after receiving
multiple reports of Cuba s conflict with Spain the United States decided to intervene
and the Spanish war had begun. United States prevailed but nevertheless they had
seen their own weaknesses when it came to their military forces. United States soon
reformed a new system which put in place a standardized system of training, supply

countries in which it was solved through persuasion and negotiation. This turned the

A Perfect Day For Bananafish
A Perfect Day for Bananafish A Perfect Day for Bananafish put J. D. Salinger on
the map. It was published in The New Yorker in 1948, and few short stories in the
history of American letters have met with such immediate acclaim. To a modern
reader, it is easy to miss what to 40 s readers was the story s principal and
disturbing undercurrent: post traumatic stress disorder. The late 40 s were in large
part a period of reaction to World War II, as exhibited in the burgeoning school of
film noir, the influx of apocalyptic B movies, and new waves in philosophy and
literary theory. Bananafish , with its unsettling mixture of the mundane and the
tragic, the light hearted and the cataclysmic, captured, in its straightforward,
deceptively muted style and sensibility, the push and pull condition of returning
WWII veterans (of which Salinger was one). The ending comes across as a
complete shock, and Salinger refuses to linger on it. The very last phrase of the
story is fired a bullet through his right temple leaving readers speechless and denying
them authorial intervention to interpret the event. The result is that a reader must
backtrack in memory through the story to construct a logical framework that can
guide him or her from the comic bounciness of the beginning to the sudden
bloodshed at the end. Salinger s decision to send such disparate tones careening into

The Fences By August Wilson
In the Fences, by August Wilson shows that life of African Americans in the U.S.
in the 1950s with the story of Troy and his family. Wilson uses the symbol of the
fence to show the desires of each character like Rose s desire is to keep her family
together, Troy s desire is to keep death out and to be not bound forever, and Bono s
desire is to follow Troy, his best friend, as an example of the right way to live and to
be with Rose and Troy who are basically his family. Rose and the other seen
characters represent people and show gender roles of the time, like Rose is a
housewife, Troy is the provider. Also Cory is the new generation of emotion over
responsibility, Gabriel represents the war heros that were permanently disabled from
war... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bono: Some people build fences to keep people out... and other people build fences
to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you. (1 2.i.)
Here August Wilsonin the first part shows a little of the gender roles of the 1950s
where men are the boss of the house and women are subservient to them. It also
shows that Rose did not go in as told but remained there with them and Troy
accepted that he could not tell her what to do. The image or action of Rose not
leaving shows the changing of the times in other words the 1950s on the fence to
between the old ways and the new ones. In the first part of what Bono says
describes Troy with death and the other part describes Rose with her love for her
family and desire to keep everyone close and happy. The character Gabriel (Uncle
Gabe) is a mix of many different things and people that of the time and believes he
signals the opening of heaven s gate as his interpretation of the fence. Gabriel is
Troy s half brother who went and fought in the war. He was medically discharged
after receiving a head injury that permanently reduced his mental functions. Troy
helped Gabriel get a settlement and helps spend/manage the money. Troy used the
money to buy himself a house that Gabriel originally lived in as well until Gabriel
moved out at his own wish. Wilson wrote: Gabriel: Oh, yeah... I know it. The devil s
strong. The devil ain t no pushover. Hellhounds snipping at everybody s heels. But I
The Supreme Court Of Virginia
In any legal system, there is a notion that the chief end to be achieved is justice.
Clearly no one would advocate for an unjust legal system, but what if the clear
distinction between just and unjust is not so clear? What if there are diametrically
opposed moral principles supporting competing arguments? On three occasions, the
Supreme Court of Virginia has declined ruling on whether the relationship with an
assailant s wife deprives a defendant of the right to self defense. The Supreme Court
of Virginia should deny a defendant the right to claim self defense when the
following elements are present: (1) the defendant is charged with murder, (2) the
defendant was in the act of sexual intimacy with the victim s spouse, (3) the victim

It is in the public s interest to maintain a predictable standard of acceptable
behavior. Without such a standard, society will fall into chaos. There are two
traditional, primary means for integrating moral reasoning into the analysis of
criminal law. The first is requiring a defendant to have a culpable mental state for
most crimes. The second is the doctrine of affirmative defenses. There are two
types of Affirmative defenses: justifications and excuses. In effect, if a defendant
can establish a defense, the defendant should be acquitted because society believes
he took the right or at least a tolerable action. Excuses, invoke the notion that while
what the defendant did was not justified, the defendant should not be held
accountable for his wrongdoing because he is not to blame for it. Despite the fact
that the criminal law is essentially a moral enterprise, the legally trained actors in the
criminal justice system rarely explicitly examine exactly what moral principles the
system is enforcing. One reason for the absence of moral analysis is that most
lawyers are not trained in moral philosophy. Generally, legal education has never
seriously attempted to incorporate moral principles into instruction. Another
explanation for the absence in moral reasoning in the criminal law is that there is no
need for any deep moral debate concerning the right or wrong of
How Does Diphtheria Cause Death During The Holocaust
How many people died during the Holocaust because of starvation and diseases
that there was no cure for? Some of the most deadly diseases in concentration
camps are Typhus, Diphtheria and Dysentery. Typhus, Dysentery, and Diphtheria
were illnesses that passed through Nazi Camps, Ghetto and the Organ Trail was
known for these diseases. Typhus is a disease that went through the concentration
camps. The disease is spread by lice which is a bug that lives in hair usually on the
head. (Auschwitz Voices pg.60) Most children were affected by the overcrowding
which made it easier to catch typhus and they frequently died from it. Almost 30
percent of the population of Warsaw was packed into 2.4 percent of the city s area
which caused there to be enormous amounts of overcrowding which made it easier to
contract diseases.(www.ushmm.Org) It can cause inflamed vessels, which in turn can
cause a dramatic drop in blood pressure as well as internal bleeding.
(www.share.com) Typhus, in particular was rampant and prisoners were marched out
of the camps and into the ghetto for mass disinfections. Disinfection baths were
established in certain areas like on Balonowa Street. (U.S. Holocaust Memorial
Museum)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some strains of the bacterium Corynebacterium produce a toxin, and it is the toxin
that causes the most serious complications of Diphtheria.
(www.medicalnewstoday.com) To determine the degree of reactions to diphtheria
toxoid, studies were carried out on approximately 300 men each.
(history.amedd.army.mil pg.170) Diphtheria is often associated with a sore throat,
fever, and the development of an adherent membrane on the tonsils and/or
nasopharynx. (medicinenet.com) This is a disease that most people are familiar
with. Some famous people who are golden in our history had family who died from
Diphtheria such as Eleanor Roosevelt s mother who died of the infectious disease in
1892.

  • 1. Harlem Renaissance Essay Writing an essay on the Harlem Renaissance can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in capturing the essence of a complex cultural and artistic movement that took place in the early 20th century. The Harlem Renaissance was a period of profound social, cultural, and artistic transformation, predominantly centered in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. Addressing the various facets of this movement requires a comprehensive understanding of its historical context, key figures, literary works, visual arts, music, and the societal impact it had on African American communities. The research process for such an essay involves delving into a wide range of primary and secondary sources to grasp the multifaceted nature of the Harlem Renaissance. Analyzing the works of influential figures like Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Duke Ellington is essential to capturing the diversity of creative expression during this era. Additionally, exploring the socio-political backdrop, racial tensions, and the Harlem community's resilience becomes crucial for a nuanced perspective. Crafting a well-structured essay involves weaving together these various elements coherently, ensuring a balanced and insightful exploration of the Harlem Renaissance. It's essential to articulate the connections between literature, music, visual arts, and societal changes, providing a holistic view of this cultural phenomenon. Moreover, integrating critical perspectives and scholarly debates adds depth to the analysis, showcasing a nuanced understanding of the complexities surrounding the Harlem Renaissance. Concluding such an essay requires summarizing key insights and leaving the reader with a profound understanding of the significance of the Harlem Renaissance. In the modern world, people are highly concerned with appearances, features, attractiveness and insecurities, and believe the solution to these problems is cosmetic surgery. People are willing to undergo cosmetic procedures despite many of the possible complications. Liposuction is one most common cosmetic procedures patients choose to undergo in the U.S. Liposuction, or lipoplasty, is the removal of fat from the body. Patients elect to undergo this surgerybecause they are seeking more aesthetically pleasing body shapes, and it is important to know that it is not a substitute for weight loss. Liposuction is simply the reshaping or molding of body parts. The abdomen, butt, and thighs are some of the most common areas of the body that liposuction is performed on. The best candidates for liposuction are people who have good elasticity and skin tone, where the skin molds itself into new contours (Nordqvist). The procedure includes an anesthesia, general or local, depending on the amount of fat that is being removed. Then, small incisions are made in discreet spots of the targeted area of fat removal (Jones). The incisions are typically less than an inch in length. Next, a cannula, a small tube, is inserted into the incisions to loosen the fat by moving it back and forth, and it is then suctioned out using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to

These types of jokes seem to take center stage at any comedy performance or routine, and the audience loves it. Gender in association with humor brings up a great deal of questions. Do males and females see humor differently? Are there any similarities in the way the sexes view humor? And is there any truth to the thought that humans enjoy crass humor more than other types of jokes? These questions have been popping up in the scientific world, and researchers are trying to answer them. • 8. Gender Is The Definition Of Gender Jervon Kyles Ms. Smith English 101 October 29, 2015 What is Gender? The definition of gender depends on the time period. The basic and historically accepted version of the definition of gender is the state of being either male or female, masculine or feminine, or simply a man or woman. Historically we have lived in a world that only had binary gender, meaning that a person was solely either a man or a woman. While that is the general definition that has been accepted as a baseline representation of what gender is, in today s society, it is actually much more difficult to classify. In the past, it was extremely simple; men hunted while women took care of children. Today, gender is more than just a person s physical makeup. Biological sex of a person isn t questioned; a person with a penis is a male, and a person with breasts and a vagina is a female, but one can have a gender that ranges from lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, transexual, etc. Gender is not about sex, but rather is a classification of one s sense of attraction and whether they identify as a man, woman, or both. Western culture is what established the basis of every person being either a man or a woman. The first problem that has consistently been a part of gender classification is the fact that its determined off of what s seen between the legs at birth. The variability of the gender, even if seen in solely a biological sense, has more than just the two common possibilities. Trying to

What exactly did they domesticate from, and in what ways were they transported around the world? In her article, DNA Tells Tale of How CatsConquered the World, Tina Hesman Saey examines and analyzes these questions, using the research and findings from Eva Maria Geigl, Thierry Grange, and Carlos Driscoll. Using the DNA from today s cats, scientists have found out that modern house cats have been domesticated from African wildcats. However, the big question still remained: how did they make it all the way around the world? Geigl ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being natural predators, they would hunt rodents, which encouraged Middle Eastern farmers to keep them around. Grange explains that this set up could be dubbed as mutually profitable for both sides (qtd. in Saey). Also, as many cat owners know, cats typically mark their territory and stay in one place. Using this knowledge, scientists have drawn conclusions that cats were transported to Europe; they didn t migrate there themselves. This idea is backed up with evidence from mitotypes. European wildcats carried one mitotype. It s called clade I. A 6,400 year old Bulgarian cat and a 5,200 year old Romanian cat had a different type of mitochondrial DNA. They both had mitotype IV A (Saey). These mitotypes are relative to location, so when cats in Africa were found with mitotypes previously only found in Egypt, it suggested that cats were being transported by people. Saey also brings up a valid point, Thirty two of 70 cats from Southwest Asia also had that mitotype. That rapid spread may indicate that sailors traveled with cats, some of which could have jumped ship to find a new

The habitable zone is defined as a region within which Earth like planets might possess the moderate environmental conditions for advanced life to form (von Bloh). Many of these new planets discovered are gas giants with atmospheres too turbulent to support life, so these planets habitable zone is said to be low or nonexistent. The existence of Earthlike planets, however, is just as common as the existence of these extreme planets. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These conditions can range from the temperature of the universe, the background radiation leftover from the Big Bang, and the amount of elements located in the universe. It is a well known fact that organic molecules are common within the universe. As stated before, galaxies consist of billions of stars and then multiply that by the amount of galaxies in the universe; one can see why there are a plethora of stars. When stars die, the ones that explode, through a process called a supernova, release enough heavy elements into space that are essential for life to begin. Vilenkin states that the shockwave of these explosions are enough to propel these heavier elements into areas of dense clouds that have the potential to form new binary systems of a star and a planet. This new planet now has the chance to form life. But, the REH claims that the destructive nature of space is more prone to killing off any budding life than to help life develop. There is galactic cannibalism, which is when two galaxies collide and ripe each other apart with the force of gravity, or even stars dying can be a catalyst to the end of extraterrestrial life forming. According to Vilekin and other astronomers, the universe has been cooling down, albeit slowly and over the course of billions of years; but this seems to be beneficial to the potential existence of other life. • 25. Racism and Anti-Semitism in the United States Racism and Anti Semitism in the United States Introduction One question that still plagues scholars is whether racism and anti Semitism are a continuing problem within the United States, despite all the efforts made to eradicate them and all the work done to make everyone equal. Most people in the US today would agree that equality is closer than it was in the past, but the truth of the matter is that all people are still not completely equal. There are a disproportionate number of black people in the prison systems and on welfare, for example, and women who do the same work as men still do not receive the same salaries. Additionally, there are anti Semitic groups in the United States that still talk of Hitler and the Nazis as if they were heroes for what they did in an effort to eradicate the Jewish people. These groups are not seen on the news often and are not that vocal in most circles, but they are certainly in existence. It will be argued here that the United States is too much of a melting pot of different cultures, races, and opinions for there to be true equality, which means that racism and anti Semitism will always exist in some degree. Abolishment by the government does not guarantee eradication of an idea or belief. Racism and Anti Semitism Still Exist During the years since WWII and the years since slavery has been abolished, there have been changes in the way people feel about black people, Jewish people, and others. Because that is the case,
  • 26. Time As A Dominant Mode Time emerges as a dominant mode in man s experience of modernity. Modernity has shattered the sense of continuity and fixedness on which man s identity was built. Many modern dramatists, who attempt to articulate man s Being in the world and his experience in the modern world, explore different representations of the concept of time, because time is capable of endowing human experience with a feeling of continuity and discontinuity. Since modernity has ripped man out of a sense of time consistent with his organic relationship to the world, experimenting with time could be used to concretize the drama of modernity. For instance, many modern British and Egyptian playwrights share a sense of dislocation and an identity crisis, which manifests itself in the particular temporal patterns of their dramas. New temporal modes, subjective and objective, have been developed in modern dramatic representations, and many of them testify to the influence of philosophies of time, both ancient and contemporary. In modern society, Time is generally perceived to exist in our consciousness. When dealing with time, we are usually referring to our consciousness of time; and we are conscious of time in many ways: appointments, clocks, days, etc... This is known as objective time, but time can also be conceived as a subjective experience, otherwise known as psychological or absolute time. An important subcategory of time consciousness is time perception. Many philosophies have thought

The Use Of Egg In The Great Gatsby Kumamoto analyzes the use of egg and fowl references throughout the novel and ties it back to Fitzgerald s obsession with The Feast of Trimalchio in The Satyricon in which eggs represent wealth, popularity, and prosperity. Fitzgerald uses this as inspiration and links parties and food to eggs to show the social gap that exists between East and West Egg people. Also, at the end of the novel, Fitzgerald has Tom and Daisy feasting on cold chicken to play on the coward definition of the word chicken and illustrate the low levels higher class people stoop to in order to see the defeat of others. Overall, Kumamoto concludes that the use of egg and fowl analogies in The Great Gatsbyis for Fitzgerald to shine a light on the bitter side of riches

Complications in the interpretation of the Second Amendment, other federal laws, differences between state laws and level of restrictiveness all add to the confusion and complications of gun control in the United States. The issue of gun control is complex within itself because each state has their own laws and set of restrictions. But to understand gun control one must understand the foundation for gun laws which comes from the Second Amendment. The organism also causes a wide range of diseases in different intermediate hosts, ranging from animals, such as mammals and birds to human (Astrid et al., 2000). • 43. A Perfect Day For Bananafish A Perfect Day for Bananafish A Perfect Day for Bananafish put J. D. Salinger on the map. It was published in The New Yorker in 1948, and few short stories in the history of American letters have met with such immediate acclaim. To a modern reader, it is easy to miss what to 40 s readers was the story s principal and disturbing undercurrent: post traumatic stress disorder. The late 40 s were in large part a period of reaction to World War II, as exhibited in the burgeoning school of film noir, the influx of apocalyptic B movies, and new waves in philosophy and literary theory. Bananafish , with its unsettling mixture of the mundane and the tragic, the light hearted and the cataclysmic, captured, in its straightforward, deceptively muted style and sensibility, the push and pull condition of returning WWII veterans (of which Salinger was one). The ending comes across as a complete shock, and Salinger refuses to linger on it. The very last phrase of the story is fired a bullet through his right temple leaving readers speechless and denying them authorial intervention to interpret the event. The result is that a reader must backtrack in memory through the story to construct a logical framework that can guide him or her from the comic bounciness of the beginning to the sudden bloodshed at the end. Salinger s decision to send such disparate tones careening into one another is a way of underlining the essential absurdity of war as it seeps into and refuses to leave

There are two traditional, primary means for integrating moral reasoning into the analysis of criminal law. The first is requiring a defendant to have a culpable mental state for most crimes. The second is the doctrine of affirmative defenses. There are two types of Affirmative defenses: justifications and excuses. In effect, if a defendant can establish a defense, the defendant should be acquitted because society believes he took the right or at least a tolerable action. Despite the fact that the criminal law is essentially a moral enterprise, the legally trained actors in the criminal justice system rarely explicitly examine exactly what moral principles the system is enforcing. One reason for the absence of moral analysis is that most lawyers are not trained in moral philosophy. Generally, legal education has never seriously attempted to incorporate moral principles into instruction. Another explanation for the absence in moral reasoning in the criminal law is that there is no need for any deep moral debate concerning the right or wrong of
