Weaving, black pottery, and cross crafting are three important handicrafts in Lithuanian folk art. Weaving was used to create bedspreads, costumes, and woven items that reflected a person's mentality. Black pottery from the 18th century Dzūkija region is black-colored and durable like metal. Lithuanian cross crafting combines elements of architecture, sculpture, and painting in crosses that feature symbols of the sun, birds, and the tree of life, and was recognized by UNESCO in 2001.
