Hamlet is upset that his uncle Claudius has married his mother after his father's death. The ghost of Hamlet's father appears and tells Hamlet that Claudius murdered him. Hamlet devises a plan using actors to prove Claudius's guilt. Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius behind a curtain. Ophelia goes mad with grief over her father's death and drowns herself. At the end, Hamlet learns of a plot for a poisoned fencing match against Laertes and turns the plot against Claudius, killing him. Both Hamlet and Laertes die from the poison.

 King Hamlet is dead; Prince Hamlet is
upset that his mother has married his
uncle, Claudius.
 Guards inform Horatio who informs
Hamlet they have seen his Father’s ghost.
 Later, the ghost appears to Hamlet and
tells him that Claudius murdered him and
demands that Hamlet avenge his death.

5. ACT II
 Claudius summons Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern, Hamlet’s school friends, to
the castle to spy on him.
 A group of actors arrive at the castle and
Hamlet arranges for them to perform The
Murder of Gonzago, along with additional
lines he has written.
 Hamlet hopes to prove Claudius’ guilt by
reenacting the crime while having
Horatio study Claudius’ reaction.

8. ACT III
 Hamlet delivers his “to be or not to
be” soliloquy
 The players perform the play and
Claudius gets up and leaves.
 To try and find why Hamlet has gone
mad, Polonious tells him his Mother
wants to meet with him (Hamlet)
while he hides behind a curtain.
 Hamlet stabs through curtain, killing
Polonious.
 Hamlet confronts his Mother.

Grief-stricken by his father’s death, Laertes
asks Claudius’s assistance in punishing
his father’s murderer.
Claudius sends Hamlet to England, under
the pretense of protecting his life; in
reality, Claudius has asked the King of
England to kill Prince Hamlet.
Ophelia sings crazy songs about losing
virginity- ends up drowning herself

13. Act V
The gravediggers scene provides comic
relief, but soon turns serious…
Hamlet learns of Ophelia’s death by
accident, tries to jump in her grave.

14. Laertes reveals Claudius’s wicked plans for
the exhibition duel, in which Laertes has
used a sword dipped in poison.
Hamlet stabs Claudius and makes him drink
from the poisoned cup of wine; Hamlet
and Laertes forgive each other and die.
Horatio eulogizes over Hamlet’s corpse.
