tables and spreadsheets to SMS text messages, PDF files, HTML web pages and
more. While the value in capturing and analyzing this data is clear, the solution is
not. Traditional data warehouse technologies were not designed for this volume,
velocity and variety of data, which is collectively referred to as big data.
Some people believe that the answer to challenges posed by big data lie in a
relatively new group of non relational data storage and management products
known collectively as NoSQL. However, NoSQL system development is different
from traditional data warehouse development in that it is application driven. This
has led some pundits to postulate that NoSQL represents a new paradigm in data
warehouse design, where highly specialized data silos will replace the traditionally
integrated data warehouse. Therefore it is reasonable to ask, should NoSQL be used

Discrimination comes in a number of forms. We have age discrimination,
employment or job discrimination, racial discrimination, gender discrimination,
reverse discrimination, sexual discrimination, and others. Prejudice is a negative
attitude toward a socially defined group and toward any person perceived to be a
member of that group (Burgess, 2003). The purpose of her research was to talk about
discriminationand prejudices and the affect they have on our day to day lives. She
also defines prejudiceand discrimination and takes a look at their relationship to
stereotyping and racism. According to Burgess, stereotyping often leads to
prejudice and discrimination, with its definition almost mirroring that of prejudice.
Stereotypes or characterizations are generalizations or assumptions that people
make about the characteristics of all members of a group, based on an image, often
wrong, about what people in that group are like. We are told that it does not allow
for individuals to be different, but names them all as one group (Burgess, 2003).
Much as her research does, I d like to discuss the different types of discrimination
and prejudice and how we might eliminate it. In the text chosen for this course,

Sula and Nel s home environments negatively influence the way they handle the
drowning of the little boy, Chicken Little, marking a pattern of thinking that
follows them through adulthood. When the girls realize Chicken Little is not
going to resurface from the river, Nel s first words are somebody saw (Morrison
61). Rather than attempt to save Chicken Little, her first thoughts are about what
other people will think, reminiscent of the attitude of her mother. The girls,
particularly Nel, are concerned more about what others will say and do than the
moral and ethical enormity of their actions. They resolve to tell no one and ignore
the death rather than find a true solution, which is an immature approach Sula and
Nel continue for future conflicts. Willful ignorance and passivity are a destructive
approach characters use in the face of a frightening idea. Due to their betrayal,
distrust, and miscommunication, Sula and Nel fail to set themselves apart from
their origins and lose balance in their lives. The downfall of their irreplaceable
friendship is foreshadowed in the year of 1927, when, in the effort to please her
family and friends, Nel loses a bit of her autonomy. Fulfilling her mother s dreams,
Nel and Jude agree to get married so the two of them together would make one Jude,
illustrating Nel s secondary role in the marriage and by extension her life (Morrison

Turning water to ice is a relatively long process from start to finish. Is there a way to
speed up this process by simply changing the water temperature?
Problem statement: If an average person needs ice in a hurry, is there a way to
speed it up? Would they be able to make ice faster by using cold water or would they
be better off using hot water? If adjusting the water temperature by a couple of
degrees will this provide ice quicker; would it be worth trying? The following
experiment will address this question and the results of using different water
temperatures will include a more expedient way for the average person to make ice.
Literature Review
Even though freezing water seems like a pretty basic concept by many people; a lot
actually goes on within this so called simple process. There have been many
experiments that examined the scientific process of freezing water.
Nature International weekly journal of science had an article about freezing water
and how it the process was so complicated that it had never been successfully
simulated by a computer. In this experiment the experimenter was noticing how
larger bodies of water would start to freeze throughout nature when the water would
start to cool until finally freezing to ice. The complicated problem is when the water
starts to cool and the hydrogen bonding between the individual water molecules yield
a disordered three dimensional hydrogen bond network. The experimenter noticed

With the changing demographics of UW Bothell, diversity and social issues today are
increasingly being addressed by students. Current student participation is rising with
established clubs and new clubs. The current club structure is connecting like minded
students who want to establish a space where they can help and educate others about
what they deem important. These clubs have encouraged students to devote time to
global and social issues that mirror localized activism.

Therefore, last year, I connected with other soon graduating pre health students to
start Pre Health Society. In the past year, we have mentored four students to apply

With the many social issues that are being addressed, the efforts to promote change

I was having a hard time articulating how I distribute my time because there are a
lot of causes to fight for, and a lot of opportunities to do so. For me I try my best to

Guest of Nation The imprisoned Guest The short story portrays how two
Englishmen who were held by the Irish Republic Army as captives. This story is
divided into four sections; every section addresses a different tone. In the first
paragraph of the story Guest of Nation captors become friends and the lines of duty,
humanitarianism and sympathy are blurred. However, even though these lines
become blurred in the end hostages remain hostages and captors remain, captors, as
both men are killed. This death leaves behind mixed emotions in two of the men and
a sense of duty and pride within the other. The first paragraph also talks about the
good and friendly relationship enjoyed by the English prisoners. The last two lines
describe the nauseating effect the killing of the two men brought to the Irishmen (O
