A 8-month-old female infant was brought to the hospital at midnight with difficulty breathing and drooling saliva after choking on a foreign body. Examination found coarse crackling in both lungs. X-ray of the chest was normal. During direct laryngoscopy under light anesthesia, a hair clipper was found in the infant's hypopharynx and was removed with forceps. A rigid bronchoscopy was also performed to clear aspirated secretions from the bronchial tree.
