2. The Case
 A 9-years old girl was admitted to
Sulaymaniyah Teaching Hospital,
Sulaymaniyah, Region of Kurdistan,
Iraq on 8th of June 2009 because of
a small painless rib swelling just
beneath the left nipple of few
months duration. Physical
examination as well as CXR were
normal.

3. The Case…
 Under GA via an ET tube, a localized
segment of the involved rib together
with the swelling was resected. The
pleural space was inadvertently
entered; thus a left chest tube was
placed. The wound was closed in
layers.
 Unfortunately, the biopsy result
could not be found in the medical
file to be shown in this presentation.

7. Comment
 “Rib tumors are rare entities in the
pediatric population. However, a significant
number of rib lesions are malignant.
Therefore, proper diagnosis and expeditious
treatment are critical” [1].
 “The relative frequency of rib tumors is
similar to that of bone tumors in other
locations. A biopsy of the affected bone
should be the first step of the operative
intervention” [2].
