2. The Case
A 9-years old girl was admitted to
Sulaymaniyah Teaching Hospital,
Sulaymaniyah, Region of Kurdistan,
Iraq on 8th of June 2009 because of
a small painless rib swelling just
beneath the left nipple of few
months duration. Physical
examination as well as CXR were
normal.

3. The Case…
Under GA via an ET tube, a localized
segment of the involved rib together
with the swelling was resected. The
pleural space was inadvertently
entered; thus a left chest tube was
placed. The wound was closed in
layers.
Unfortunately, the biopsy result
could not be found in the medical
file to be shown in this presentation.

7. Comment
“Rib tumors are rare entities in the
pediatric population. However, a significant
number of rib lesions are malignant.
Therefore, proper diagnosis and expeditious
treatment are critical” [1].
“The relative frequency of rib tumors is
similar to that of bone tumors in other
locations. A biopsy of the affected bone
should be the first step of the operative
intervention” [2].
