Guy Ritchie began his career doing odd jobs in film and television before directing music videos and commercials. His short film The Hard Case caught the attention of Sting's wife Trudie Styler, who funded Ritchie's first feature film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998. This film established Ritchie's signature style of fast-paced crime thrillers, but his next two films failed to follow the same successful formula.
