2. NordForsk
– NordForsk is a platform for joint Nordic research and research policy
development in the Nordic countries.
– It was established by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2005.
– New statutes and new composition of the Board from 2014
– The aim of the organisation is to facilitate cooperation in all fields of
research when this adds value to work being conducted nationally.
– Basic funding is provided by the Nordic Council of Ministers and
additional funding by stakeholders especially the Research Councils in
the different countries (“The 2/3 principle”).
– The Board approved a new strategy for 2015 – 2018 which will be
followed by an implementation plan

5. Nordic Societal Security Programme
Objective
• To develop new knowledge about and solutions for the many
aspects of societal security affecting the Nordic countries.
Rationale
• The Programme builds on existing close Nordic cooperation in
the area of societal security that has been strengthened through
several political initiatives (e.g. the Haga Declaration from
2009)
• Higher degree of Nordic excellence and significant, targeted
results can be achieved together by means of a common
investment in a multi-year programme that links together
existing research groups.
Current budget (48,5 M.NOK)

6. Nordic Societal Security Programme
Status
• A two stage programme call for proposals for Nordic Centres of
Excellence in Societal Security was launched in 2013.
• In June 2014 NordForsk board, based on the Nordic Societal
Security Programme Committee recommendation, decided to
fund two new Nordic Centres of Excellence
• NORDSTEVA – James Peter Burgess fra Peace Research
Institute, Oslo
• NORDRESS – Guðrún Gísladóttir, Institute for Sustainability
Studies, University of Iceland
• NordForsk is working on the programme dissemination
• NordForsk is working to extend the Nordic Societal Security
