Definition
“Gun related violence is violence committed with the use of a gun
(firearm or small arm). Gun related violence may or may not be
considered criminal. Criminal, includes homicide (except when and
where ruled justifiable), assault with a deadly weapon, and suicide,
or attempted suicide, depending on jurisdiction…
… 75 % of the world's 875 million guns are civilian controlled.
Globally, millions are wounded through the use of guns…
… Levels of gun related violence vary greatly among geographical
regions, countries, and even subnationally. The United States has
the highest rate of gun related deaths per capita among developed
countries”

The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution
reads:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of
a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms,
shall not be infringed."
Gun Laws
In order to possess a gun in the US you must have a license.
People who cannot obtain this license include:
• People who have been convicted of a crime which sentence
is over 1 year
• Fugitives from justice
• People addicted to illegal substances
• Illegal immigrants
• People who have been dishonourably discharged from the
army
• People subject to restraining orders
• People who have been convicted of domestic violence
• People under 18
Gun Laws
• Some states have laws which are more or less restrictive than the
federal gun laws. The right to carry laws can be divided into 4
groups:
1) Permissive Open Carry States: People are allowed to carry their
legally-owned guns openly and in public;
2) Licensed Open Carry States: People are allowed to carry their
legally-owned guns openly and in public only with a permit or
license to do so
3) Anomalous Open Carry States: While openly carrying a gun may
generally be legal under state law, local governments are
allowed to enact more restrictive open-carry laws
4) Non-Permissive Open Carry States: State law allows persons to
openly carry legally-owned guns only in limited circumstances,
like while hunting, during target practice, or when legally carried
for self-defense

National Rifle Association
NRA stands for National Rifle Association. The group was
founded in 1871 as a recreational group designed to
"promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific
basis".
The NRA is now among the most powerful special interest
lobby groups in the US, with a substantial budget ($250m
per year) to influence members of Congress on gun policy.
The NRA has lobbied heavily against all forms of gun
control and argued aggressively that more guns make the
country safer.
What is NRA?
Why join the NRA?
