Gun violence in the United States results in tens of thousands of deaths each year. While about 40% of Americans own guns, felons are less likely to attack targets they believe may be armed. Although most requests for gun ownership are denied, certain demographics like men and Republicans are more likely to own firearms than others. Strict gun laws in some areas have been correlated with fewer gun deaths.
