Why the united states should have stricter gun laws
1. WHY THE UNITED STATESSHOULD HAVE
STRICTER GUN LAWS
BY:DREW PATRICK BOWLING
2. HOW EASY IS IT TO GET A GUN IN THE UNITED STATES?
▸ Its easier than you think it is to get a gun… When you go to a public dealer you
have to do a background check and theres a record of your purchase, but when
you purchase a gun from a private dealer you don't need to have a background
check or have a record of the purchase.
▸ About 40% of guns are sold without a background check within the United States.
That adds up to around 6.6 million guns a year sold without background checks.
Thats 6,600,000 guns sold with out a license…
3. WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS ARE ASKED DURING THE PURCHASE OF A GUN?
▸ Have you ever been convicted of a felony?
▸ Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence?
▸ Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any other depressant,
stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?
▸ Are you a fugitive from justice?
▸ Have you ever been committed to a mental institution?
▸ “More than 100 million such checks have been made in the last decade, leading
to more than 700,000 denials,” States the FBI on its Website.
▸ But the main question is why are around 20 million guns sold in the United
states sold a year?
4. HOW MANY PEOPLE DIE TO GUNS A YEAR IN THE UNITED STATES?
▸ There about 30,000 gun deaths a year
▸ How many crimes happen due to gun violence? There are
about 11,000 firearm homicides and 59,000 people
wounded by firearms in 2013.
▸ In 2010, gun violence cost U.S. taxpayers approximately
$516 million in direct hospital costs. Just image what could
have been done with that money.
5. THE KEY TO REDUCING GUN PROBLEMS
▸ Private gun salesmen must have a background check and must have
a record of it.
▸ Increase the time for the crime on gun situated cases
▸ Military conflict needs to be put to an end in the United States
because when the United States is at war, there is an increase in the
suicide rate. Most of these cases end with guns.
▸ School drop outs also need to be put to an end. There are about
3,000 cases of murder a year with guns from this group! Not
including the injuries involving guns that don't lead to death, or
other crimes where guns are used.
6. WHY IS IT OK TO KEEP THE GUN LAWS THE SAME?
▸ There are some advantages to the
laws we have right now.
▸ To keep the United States off the
path to no guns.
▸ Most people who want to get a
gun to hurt people don't care how
they get it so they most likely will
get it in the end anyway.
