This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT IN GULAYAN SA TAHANAN
I. Introduction
The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented crisis that brings with a lot of problems, especially for the poor and
marginalized sectors of our society. That’s why the Department of Education came up with this alternative as part of Work From
Home. Gulayan sa Paaralan is now Gulayan sa Tahanan among our school children and their family, teachers of San Ramon ES
and the community. This is an alternative way of using time of our parent during the Enhanced Community Quarantine to promote
vegetation at home.
II. Objectives
1. To promote vegetable production at home
2. To establish and maintain gardens as ready food source of vegetables in sustaining the daily needs.
3. To induce among the learners and the community the values of gardening, good health, love of labor and caring
for others.

III. Highlights
Gulayan sa Tahanan is one of the best ways on how we can improve learning. Why? Simply, utilizing home gardening for
food supplementary program can be a tool in aiding the major reasons why a every family/person drops out of poverty, hunger,
malnutrition. Aside from implementing home gardening for the purpose of food supplementary programs is inculcating among our
learners and parents the values of planting, having a good health and nutrition, industry, love of labor and caring for others.
Furthermore, this will teach them how to improve their nutritional status, learning where food comes from and how planting
promotes beautification of their surroundings. It also serves as a good simulating activity in which they will learn leadership and
rendering good service. As a matter of fact, planting as one of the livelihood skills that learner will acquire can be applied in their
everyday lifestyle until they grow up and have their own family. It introduces to the community small scale food production which
will somehow elevate their perspective about food security, health awareness and income generating projects. It will raise the level
of the public consciousness on the nutritional dimensions and economic benefits.
The Grade VI pupils and parents participated in Gulayan sa Tahanan in their EPP subject. In preparation of their home
garden plots, they cleaned and prepared the soil at their home by plowing and mixing it with garden soil and organic fertilizer such
as vermi cast, and animal manure. Some are planting in a plastic bottle of water, broken buckets and old tires because they don't
have vacant land that can be planted in their yard. They also prepared seeds like monggo, mustasa, petsay, talong and sili in the

seedling box. After a few weeks, they grew and were ready for planted. As the vegetables are ready for harvest, the vegetables
were the ones that were used to supplement the daily feeding of every pupils/parent whose involve in the said program.
The Gulayan sa Tahanan shall be implemented in every home regardless of ample or limited area. Let us be worked to
improve and increase vegetable production in every house by teaching the learners and parents the methods of sustainable
production of food which are applicable to their homes and important in honing their skills in agriculture. Growing vegetables in our
homes is a big help to every family especially during the pandemic. It can supply or supplement our needs in food. And can be
also earn a living for the family.
IV. Issues and concerns
To support the daily needs of the family during pandemic
To enhance the skills of each community members such as learners, parents and teachers to learn how o cultivate the
soil for home gardening.
To give importance that vegetables are good for our body.
