Introduction
Citrix XenServer is a server virtualization platform. This paper identifies HP solutions for running Citrix XenServer 6.2.0 and
includes the following subjects:
• System Requirements for ProLiant Servers
• Recommended software, storage options, network interface controllers (NICs), and converged network adapters (CNAs)
• Known issues and workarounds
Citrix XenServer 6.2.0 overview
Citrix XenServer contains all you need to create and manage a deployment of virtual x86 computers running on Xen, an
open-source hypervisor. XenServer is optimized for both Microsoft Windows® and Linux virtual servers, and runs directly on
server hardware without requiring an underlying operating system. XenServer works by virtualizing physical machine
resources such as processor, disk, memory, and I/O and allowing them to be shared among virtual machines (VMs).
System requirements
We recommend configuring your server with either of the following processor families:
• Intel® Xeon® Processors with Intel 64 architecture
• Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD64 Opteron Series Processors
Table 1 identifies the basic requirements for systems running Citrix XenServer.
Note
Resources such as network speed, number of NICS, and available disk space dictate the amount of workload and the
number and size of VMs that can be accommodated.

• Recommended: One or more 1GB NICs for faster physical-to-virtual (P2V), export/ import data
transfers, or live migration
Available disk space* • Minimum: 16 GB
• Recommended: 60 GB
*Installation creates two, 4-GB partitions for the XenServer host control domain.

Compatibility List (HCL) available from: hcl.vmd.citrix.com.

Before you install XenServer 6.2.0, review the following sections for information on supported software and options.
Software drivers
HP provides SNMP agents for XenServer 6.2.0. To download the latest drivers, visit the HP Drivers and Downloads page at:
hp.com/us/en/drivers.html. Enter your product name, select XenServer 6.x from the supported OS list, and then download
the latest available SNMP agents.

Known issues and workarounds
Table 5 lists known issues with ProLiant Gen8 servers and XenServer 6.2.0.

Issue Workaround
After installing XenServer 6.1 hotfix XS61E030 or installing
or upgrading to XenServer 6.2 on an HP ProLiant WS460c
Gen8 Server Blade, you may experience the following:
• Citrix XenServer begins to boot but the console screen is
blank
• Citrix XenServer boots but XenServer host does not have
network settings configured.
To resolve this issue, update the server ROM to version
09/20/2013. This is a special ROM release available only at the
following FTP sites:
• For the Windows online update, see

to resolve this issue in a future ROM release.

To work around this issue, install HP SNMP agents v9.3 after
XenServer is running. We are working to resolve the issue in a
future ROM release.
