The document discusses the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) and its potential for cooperation with volunteered geographic information (VGI) initiatives. GSI is responsible for national surveying and mapping in Japan. It produces digital map products and services including the Fundamental Geospatial Data. GSI has had some past experiences with volunteers, such as receiving map updates. It also cooperated with volunteer mapping groups after the 2011 earthquake. GSI sees opportunities to work with the OpenStreetMap Foundation Japan on using GSI data and secondary uses of the Fundamental Geospatial Data. However, challenges around quality, sustainability, and disaster response would need addressed.

Mapping Battir—2003/2007-2011/2012-2018
The authors-creators of these topographic works and of their treasure (its jewel box), the Battir Ecomuseum, have never been heard to this, never.
Their common visionary willingness was constantly neglected, totally nullified at local level, frustrating their efforts to nothing, until they gave up and abandoned their hopes.
This is a paradox that tells all about the superficiality of our times embodied by indolent egos, untaught, unenlightened, inexperienced, benighted, coarse until vulgarity, who confuse the whole with the nothing, trying to simplify all, without seeing the cost of the ignorance at the expenses of the common good, nourishing, without counting, lies and corruption, all the odds.
It was necessary that a group of landscape students of Lille invited me to #Battir (from 24 April to 4 May 2012) and produced this unpredictable encounter; it was necessary the collective spirit of the civil engineer of this dream team, conscious, he, of the urgency of protecting this unpublished cartographic Battirian Patrimony, to make this collaborative cultural masterpiece universal.
Many doors opened since, challenging deathlike silences, opening always further to the sharing of knowledge.
It was necessary to put in place all these networks to guarantee the protection of this common good #Battir, by its sharing, encouraging the teaching of civil cartography through the access to its institutional data.
Opening these network accounts end of 2012 was a response among the others of the urgency of conveying this exquisite good, all the odds.
No one is allowed to pretend these 15 years of anthropologic study, its topographic survey and cartographic works do not exist.
Thank you for sharing,
forever.
Infinitely.

Presentation on national mapping organization and spatial data infrastructureBishwa oli
To describe the which organization management spatial data and objective as well as available data description. also include the challenges, advantage of SDI etc.
Remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) analysis involves the use of technology to gather, manipulate, and analyze spatial data to understand a range of phenomena. Remote sensing entails obtaining information about the Earth's surface by examining data acquired by a device, which is at a distance from the surface, most often satellites orbiting the earth and airplanes. GIS are computer-based systems that are used to capture, store, analyze, and display geographic information. These two approaches are used widely, often together, to assess natural resources and monitor environmental changes. Social scientists can gain insights into fine spatial and temporal dynamics of a range of social phenomena in environmental contexts by analyzing time series of remote sensing data, by linking remote sensing to socioeconomic data using GIS, and developing with these data a range of digital models and analyses. This article examines remote sensing and GIS in general, with an emphasis on the former, and then explores how these approaches may be used together to address a range of issues. It also emphasizes the role of remote sensing and GIS for use by scientists, engineers & geologists in water resources management
GIS is an important tool used by national mapping agencies, aeronautical and nautical organizations, and commercial map and chart publishers around the world.

Challenges for Further Cooperation (Personal view)
• Quality of provided information
– Accuracy: positional, temporal, thematic, and
topological (Verification needed?)
• Homogeneity/sustainability
– Inhomogeneous distribution of volunteers?
– Any disruption/discontinuation of activities?
• Disaster response
– Voluntary vs. Preparedness
– Pre-disaster exercises?
– How can volunteers and governments work to
gether?

Summary
• GSI acknowledges important roles VGI will play
for the future in geospatial information applicatio
ns, as they have been internationally appreciate
d, and exemplified by the disaster response to t
he Haiti earthquake and others.
• The dialogue has just started, but many positive
outcomes and mutual benefits are envisaged for
the future, as we work on some outstanding issu
es.
