Special guests include the Center for Neighborhood Technology's Scott Bernstein — who will describe urbanist opportunities in the HUD and DOT Sustainable Communities partnership, on which he's consulted extensively — and Nick Donohue, Virginia Assistant Secretary of Transportation, who has helped supply Gov. Tim Kaine with the right combination of reform ideas and value propositions to usher in a set of new policies requiring better connected local street networks, identified urban development areas, and coordinated land use and development planning where the state makes transportation investments. The Virginia experience offers lessons for taking similar pro-urban policies to other states and the federal level, including the message that only when transportation design moves beyond an exclusive focus on mobility to consider mobility and proximity together can truly cost-effective and lasting solutions emerge. The policies of urban development and housing in India have come a long way since 1950s. The pressure of urban population and lack of housing and basic services were very much evident in the early 1950s. In some cities this was compounded by migration of people from Pakistan. However, the general perception of the policy makers was that India is pre-dominantly an agricultural and rural economy and that there are potent dangers of over urbanisation which will lead to the drain of resources from the countryside to feed the cities.

This is the public review draft for the Mammoth Lakes Downtown Revitalization plan that includes a first of its kind Incremental Development program, and "preapproved" mixed-use main street buildings". The Action Plan is designed to kickstart downtown revitalization and more housing choices. The actions were developed from an extensive online and in-person public process and dozens of meetings with property owners and stakeholders. The benchmark tool @infillscore.com was used to help create a baseline to compare to other resort community downtowns.
“Planning for Future Funding: How to create a community comprehensive plan with federal funding in mind”
Thinking about federal grants when developing a comprehensive plan for your community can help you get a head start on successfully applying, submitting and receiving federal funding.
Detailed comprehensive plans and federal funding grants need some of the same elements to thrive. Writing about the vision for investing in a community’s empty brownfields, affordable housing and economic development needs, and health issues can serve as a platform in applying for federal grants. These aspirations, when effectively written and documented, can be used as the basis for grant applications. If a community identifies its needs as part of the planning process, it can, as part of a continuous proposal building process, pinpoint which grants will help meet those needs.
Federal grants are available for communities with an integrated vision for connecting economic development, community development, and environmental protection to create greater livability.
Illinois ResourceNet (IRN) and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMPA) are working together on a series of free webinars to help communities strengthen their capacity to apply successfully for available federal funding opportunities.
In this webinar, “Planning for Funding: How to create a comprehensive plan with federal funding in mind,” Deborah Orr, EPA Region 5 Brownfields Coordinator, will moderate the session and explain why comprehensive community planning should be an integral part of the federal funding process.
Michael McAfee, Community Planning and Development Representative with HUD's Chicago office, will demonstrate how to use a comprehensive plan and the sustainable practices built into it to facilitate the continuous development of federal funding proposals.
Susan Kaplan, technical assistance provider for Illinois ResourceNet at the University of Illinois, will offer examples of how a community plan can be used to help identify relevant federal grant opportunities and develop persuasive grant applications.

The City of Stonnington is preparing a Structure Plan (the Plan) for the future use and development of land in Hawksburn Village “Hawksburn. The Village. The Future.” The Structure Plan, when completed, will articulate the vision for Hawksburn in 2040. What happens when these new transit investments follow market rate development and cause increased displacement? Can transportation investments, transit oriented development and equitable development co-exist?

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
