Group dynamics refers to the forces operating within groups. Groups are classified as either primary or secondary based on their structure and type of interaction. They can also be formal, semi-formal, or informal. There are five main types of informal groups that exist: friendship groups, hobby groups, convenience groups, work groups, and self-protective groups. Key elements of groups include activity, interaction, beliefs, norms, and sentiments. Common types of health care groups are teaching groups, self-help groups, self-awareness or growth groups, and therapy groups. Important characteristics of effective groups are their ability to accomplish goals, maintain cohesion, and develop and modify their structure. Factors in assessing group dynamics include commitment, leadership
